Hey Irish, I won't be around but I have a platinum membership on indonesia cupid with around ten days left on it. PM me if you want it and I'll delete my pics and send you the login details.

Cheers man, appreciated but to be honest I doubt I will have the time and inclination to use it. Gonna be flat out with work up until then and I'm not a massive fan of online anyway to be honest, I prefer the thrill of the chase too much and for that weekend I've already got more than enough ass lined up. Plus I still got a 'thing' with the DJ girl who's playing DF that weekend, there is already a high risk of some chicks running into eachother and adding any more to the mix will just overcomplicate matters...

As they say, if you mix the gash it's gonna clash...

I'll be in Jakarta briefly, over 6th to 9th of November, on the way home from my Phils/BKK trip.

After doing some research on the forum (and considering the brief period of time that I'm there), I ended up booking a hotel room as close as possible to X2, at Harris Suites, in order to have some logistics down for what is obviously a notoriously difficult city to negotiate due to traffic.

Looking forward to it.

Not all that far from Dragonfly as well...

I like you're logistics mate but due to the nature of Jakarta traffic and road structure you're still going to be cabbing it back from either X2 or Dragonfly (X2 to hotel would be more like 10 mins if take the rear exit from Plaza Senayan but good luck convincing your bird to walk it in heels and chances are there may not even be a footpath). Also, although your hotel is geographically close to both venues it doesn't mean the cabbie still won't have to drive 5km past it in order to find a U turn to get on the correct side of the road. Hopefully not but Jakarta road structure really is that bad. I would try tee up an Uber to pick you up so at least you can go in some style.

The upside is that everyone in Jakarta already knows what it's like to get about and cabs are your only option, the chick should already know what to expect so it shouldn't kill the mood too much. Plus the likely 5-15min cab ride back to your hotel for the 'afterparty' is a lot more attractive than the 1hr+ cab she would likely need to get back to the suburbs instead.

haha yeah i was just about to make the same comment as irish. i think that's actually a pretty poor option for accom if you're planning to go to x2. it's too close to warrant a cab and some cabbies will refuse to go that short a distance (after waiting in a semi-cab rank line at x2) - or they will try to charge a stupidly high fee for a trip that wouldn't even break the flagfall (60cents)

also, i just went on a horrendous tinder date. the girl looked hot as hell in her photos and turned out to be a plump, depressed chick. think im about done with tinder in this city.

Wouldn't say it was all that bad really, I'm sure it made sense on paper. But the good proximity is nullified by the shitty Jakarta infrastructure. Had it been say a block closer it would've been absolutely ideal for x2. But generally as long as you're not miles away it should be allright, I would just offer the cabbie 5 bucks up front before he gets a chance to knock you back and it'll be more than worth his while.

I presume they're serviced apartments? Generally I prefer that from a hotel, particularly if there is two or more of you as you can throw an afterparty for everyone together yet still have private bedrooms when you want to 'extract'

The location could be better but it should be just fine.
1) don't try to get a girl to walk (and honestly don't walk it yourself unless you want to be covered in dust)
2) take ojek when you're alone and you'll beat the traffic
3) tell the taxi driver you'll pay more than the meter and don't sweat it - more often than not you will not be able to convey this to him in english or bahasa so literally put the amount of cash you want to pay in his hand during the negotiation

Hey, I really appreciate all the good information on this thread. One thing no one's mentioned is safety. Is it basically a safe city to go out in as an obvious foreigner? Thanks

Some of the more experienced Jakarta and Indonesian RVFer's here could shed more light on this, but I haven't had any trouble thus far. However I do get the sense it's not the safest of places. Definitely the druggy late night clubs like Milies feel dodgy as fuck, and as an ex pat you do stand out. My friend who is in Jakarta a lot with work and his girlfriend is from there when they were taking me and my friend to Stadium the first time I was there were at pains to stress to be careful in there and to always take Blue Bird taxis (tho didn't explain why, but don't think it was purely due to getting ripped off)

If you go for a weekend I'm sure you will be fine but if you go looking for trouble I'm sure you will find it

i've been here for a few years now, and seen exactly 2 violent crimes.

in the US/Australia, that number would be in the dozens by now.

a few things to remember are just the obvious stuff:

- watch for pickpockets in crowded areas
- dodgy clubs are dodgy because there are dodgy people...duh. again, watch your pockers.
- only catch blue bird, express, dtaksi or transcab. preferably the former 2, although the latter two are fine as well. obviously uber as well.
- wear a condom for christ sake.
- dont pull out wads of 100k rupiah notes in public

most people give the same advice on choosing taxis but indonesians have told me it depends on the taxi driver. even a blue bird might rip you off if you are hammered and alone. they have 3 main approaches to ripping you off 1) taking a less direct route, 2) charging you more then it says on the meter if you're too drunk to notice, 3) driving to you an area you don't know and demanding money.

The other approach to ripping you off is telling you there is a minimum 40k rupiah charge. That happened to me several times but I just told them to fuck off and they didn't make a big deal out of it.

White Horse is another cab company that's on the safe to use list.

Just in case it's not clear, the 40k rupiah charge is valid if you order the taxi by phone or with the bluebird app. There is supposed to be a cancellation fee if you order the taxi by phone or by app and if you are a no show. However, they will never enforce this charge. If you're in the middle of nowhere it's a normal approach to order a taxi with the app and cancel it if you see a taxi on the street.

Not long back from my most recent Jakarta trip.

Unfortunately as compared to my previous Jakarta trips this was a big anti climax and had a number of my crew pulling out of the trip last minute. Got one decent bang still but a lot of the chicks I knew there were pissing me off for some reason. I will be back but the place has lost its shine for me somewhat now. Surprisingly for all that I heard about Dragonfly on a Wednesday night, it was pretty dead. I am assuming this was just a one off however.

Anyway, the one silver lining was that I did discover a new place for the post 3am crowd as an ideal replacement for the dodgy Milies. Called Illigals and is based in the North of the city. Like Milies, it is still a bit of a drug den but is much brighter, nicer venue with a much less shifty crowd. Basically it is more like a normal nightclub, with better talent kicking about.

So to overwrite what I had detailed in my previous datasheet - I would definitely replace Milies wth Illigals as your post 3am 'hail mary' venue...

Illigals is very short walk from where stadium was. It is owned by the same company and according to stadiums Twitter they have put the stadium djs in illigals. When I was in the big D last December illigals was pretty dead but I'm not surprised to see the switch to that venue.

Interesting. The different folk I know in Jakarta had never mentioned Illigals before on my previous trips. However this time around everyone seemed to be going there after the main clubs were closing.

Although the place was bouncing on the Friday night, it wasn't that busy on the Saturday. While Milies was absolutely rammed (yes, I ended up in both on the same night). Not sure if this was a special event/one off but it may be the case Illigals could potentially be generally hit or miss. Or it's big night is a Friday.

Either way, if I was looking for a post 3am party I would stick my head in Illigals first

Yeah I know Stadium was supposed to be dangerous but it was so much fun. I had a notch who in hindsight I realized was a shore after she was so damn good at billiards. She was the hooker with a heart of gold though I put in rotation for the duration of my trip. Then there was the Dutch-Indo make out girl who was on E. She just looked at me and was like can I kiss you? Then there was the girl who was married with kids to a German and had a russian boyfriend. She and her British-Indo friend came back to my place so the Brit was pissed her friend wouldn't let her leave so we could fuck. So I heard wanker being said authentically for the first time... Ahh those were the days.

Any way I definitely think that in J town it's perfectly acceptable to venue change ten times a night and there is no reason to think a place will be the same. Jakarta nightlife is notorious for changing with the breeze. Along that thought I have a Twitter account I will use to follow every venue each night to see what's what.

Oh and I forgot to mention the time I got to drunk at x2 then went to stadium only to pass out after puking in the lobby bathroom. So truthfully it can't be that unsafe as I retained all of my effects after waking from my little nap. So don't be afraid to slum it up in the largest Muslim city in the world.

Haha, sounds like Stadium really was the place where the magic happened. As my experience from the one and only time I was there before it got shut down I ended up double making out with two chicks before taking them home with their annoying friend who then tagged along and having a 3 girl romp in bed back at the hotel.

However, after having only banged one of the girls I then began spazzing out due to having taken one too many pills back in the club. The girls ended up calling a nurse to come out who then put me on an IV drip.

My mates still give me stick about it to this day...

Heard on the grapevine that after this weekend DragonFly is going to close down for a number of months for "not paying it's tax on time". Not sure if this is a cover for not paying off the police bribe money or what but either way my favourite joint in JKT will be off the radar for a long period of time. [Image: sad.gif]

Not sure if any Jakarta based members on here have any more intel on this?

Heard that apparently the shut down time is 3 months.

So I will be sure to be there (hopefully) for the re-opening party, which I'm guessing will be after the end of Ramadan

This is a list of stuff that I wish I knew before I got there. As it was I had a very slow start and pretty much wasted the first week and a half.

I just spent 3.5 weeks in Jakarta and fucked 18 girls. Most of my success came from online. Club game has not been my strong suit so on club nights I usually refused to fuck girls that I had met online just so that I could try (and usually fail hahaha) to pull from a club.

Personally I think learning the stuff I've written here was one of the most rewarding parts of the trip. You may want to skip reading this if you feel the same way...........................

Hi, I always read your posts with much interest. I have just read girls in Jakarta like big and white cocks and they like to get fun. If a girl doesn't get fun with you, she leaves you the next day. Therefore the indonesian girls like western men as they could have all that the girls like. I don't know Jakarta at all and I'd like to ask some questions:

How a western man have to behave himself to give pleasure to a girl? I know girls in Jakarta like to get fun with a white man but I don't know what behavior or model you have to follow. For example do you have to be serious, earnest, reputable ..... or do you have to be playful and always in a laughing tone? Some suggestions please?
Thanks

That's it confirmed then. They have been shut down until after Ramadan for "not paying their tax"

I suspect the majority of the crowd will go to Immigrant in the meantime in that case
