My Life in Budapest- Sourcecode's Budapest Thread

I woke up at about 5am today to take my main girl to the airport..one of her connecting flights was cancelled..
So we went the airport early as fuck to get shit straightened.
I was tired as fuck and barely ate anything all day..I just laid around my place taking naps.

Met up with Slubu an CR at around 1130pm or so. We went to Bob. A club near the river.. It had decent looking girls but it was obvious that it was an older crowd.
I have a mustache and some facial hair on top of being tall. People around here seem to think that I'm 4-5 years older than I am.
We tried to talk to a couple girls.. nothing really went to far with it.
I mad a little headway with a group of 3 hungarian girls on a birthday adventure..they actually seemed really receptive..more than the other groups in there.. but they went off to go find food and I never saw them.

Got blown out pretty hard..but some of them were hilarious.
Girls would say one of two words.. then just stop talking.. and stare at me.
I would joke and say I would switch to hungarian..but that might have just insulted them.
One group just flat out said I dont want to talk and closed me out of there circle.

The weather is shitty..on an of rain all day and drizzles all night.
Not many people are out..the upper scale clubs are closed on wednesday so Szimpla is was.

Szimpla had a pretty bad crowd last night though..normally I can open at least 5 decent groups.
Tonight there were so many guys that it was hard to find a group that wasnt already together.

I was at a fuck it moment and opened up 3 irish girls.. they seems pretty interesting.. but all of them were obviously a little sloppy under the close.
The position we were in made it pretty hard to move around and talk to the girls.
I would have like to talked to the better looking one.. but it would have meant moving all the way around the table and blocking CR and Slubu..
Turned out the girls were suppose have boyfriends...I took this as my queue eject.
I live nearby...I went back to my place to take a shit in the comfort of my own bathroom..
*Szimpla bathroom floors have a layer of piss you have to wade through

Talked to some French girls..I don't know if it was the language barrier or they were rolling high.. but there was no point...It would have been against some law to try to keep talking to them.

CR and Slubu got some decent catches..
I hung around and eventually talked to a group of scottish girls that looked like they fell out of a 80s music video.. fanny pack and all.
But it was 3 of them.. I couldnt keep 3 girls busy...I actually welcomed other dudes to come talk to them, cause not all the girls wanted to talk to me.

Its kinda difficult with 3 people. You either find a group of 3 to talk to.. or someone has to find a group to talk to on their own.. and none of us are the type to be a clown for a group..

It was getting late.. so it was just time to troll.
last minute ditch i started talking to a girl with 6 face but a 8 body.
Massive ass for a swedish girl..She instantly took a liking to me.. and i immlediately took her hand and walked outside with her.
We talked about Sweden for a little while...I've only been to Malmo but I magically pulled the couple swedish words I knew from my head.

*I need to pick a solid story and run with it.
Ive told girls..I work for the CIA,Vice magazine..or a computer company..or I tell them I just quit my job..o.now I cant remember which girl I told which story to

She happen to run into some of her friends and then lose them.. so I had some solid time with her..quick make out..and we went for a walk...She seemed pretty set on eventually getting to her hostel..So I walked with her.
she ran into 2 other friends. a girl and a guy..( none of them are together...apparently there are actually like 4 swedish girls and 1 guy)
one of the girls had a map.. they tried to show me where their hostel was...and it was on the other side of town..I helped them out and convinced the swedish girl to just keep walking with me..let the guy and the girl have some privacy

We end up near my apartment and she realizes its past 4:30am and she isnt gonna walk 20 minutes alone to her hostel..so she came upstairs with me.

I was not prepared for this..we just instantly went to he bedroom and started fucking...probably not my best performance.. I was yawning all night.. dead tired.

the twist to this story..Is I banged her on my friends bed...
my room is dirty as fuck right now from previous nights..
looks like im washing my friends sheets.
The swedish are leaving saturday...we are making plans to meet up again tonight.
I tried to take a couple pictures.. but the little program i use to take pictures without the camera screen being on seems to have malfunctioned and all the pictures were super zoomed ion top of the darkness

One of the things about Budapest is that it's pretty easy to find "Special Little Snowflakes" on a quest to discover themselves. Those don't have any hangups.

Great stuff Sourcecode & Slubu!
You mention about Budapest being an inexpensive city to live in, what would you say to be an ideal budget to have a good time? By that I mean having a nice furnished appart in the middle or within 5 minutes walking distance to the action (bars/clubs/restos), go out 4-5 nights a week? Nothing extravagant but enough to have a comfortable lifestyle?

Thanks man!

Just mind blowing that in the heart of Europe, there can be a capital city, with such a cheap cost of living! Just incredible!

Are you serious? 800$ or 1000$ a month? . I am gonna try to break down the prices. If we go with that logic even with out rent/bills .. u take away the monthly pass metro which is 10500 ft/ month. Phone like 5000ft/ month that would leave you with around 215 000 ft month which means 7150 Ft /day

Restaurant prices downtown:
Normal restaurant like Cafe Kor= Appetizer + cheapest main dish + diet coke = 5000 ft
Subway = 1 Foot long + coke= 2000ft
Very cheap restaurant like humus bar downtown = 2000 ft meal
MacDonald around that too

Clubs
Entrance to kraft or otkert= 1000ft /2000ft
Black label= 1500 ft / Vodka + ...= 1400
Martini bianco =1000

Taxi few kilo meters= 1500- 2000

Spa entrance szeychini= 3600 ft

Taxi from airport to downtown is 7000ft

Haircut for man= 3000-4000

Cheap Nike short= 7000 ft / Gap tshirt= 5000ft/ gant polo =17000ft.

Erotic massage = 15000 ft

I dunno about your lifestyle mate, but 7150 ft / day (and that s without rent seem unreal to me) specially if you go out 5 times a week like someone asked. If you simply go to a club pay 1000 entrance, and offer urself + invite a girl for a drink =5000 ft .. You ll have just enough money left for one subway+ coke.

When you say cost of living in any country, it means you are eating at restaurants and going out regularly. When you go out if your whole day budget is enough for 2 drinks + a sandwich that's not logical, either you don't drink in clubs or just drink a pint of beer (200-400), or you barely eat outside and you go to ruin pubs with no entrance or 500 entrance well may be but u r on a very tight budget (university student like budget)

Why live in budapest if you can't enjoy the spas, the food at restaurants (even cheap ones), the clubs. The amount you said is more like surviving budapest and not living in it. And that s certainly not what the expats i met spend over there to enjoy budapest living.

Jake999,
Great breakdown, but would have been even more helpful if you had put the amounts in either $ or Euros to make it easier to understand.

Jake999,
Great breakdown, but would have been even more helpful if you had put the amounts in either $ or Euros to make it easier to understand.

Vacancier, tell me what you want to do every week , how many times you would eat outside, what activities do you like, how many drinks you would drink when you are out and will u be offering a girl few drinks, i ll give you exactly what you ll spend, do u like spas, would u be walking to take the metro or bus every time or sometimes just call a taxi and pay 7$.

I know the city by heart, tried most restaurants , all spas, all shopping malls, all clubs, pubs.

For me i would say if you want to enjoy budapest without being fancy over the top, and without worrying or just staying home because you don t want to spend, i would say anything between 2000 and 3000 $, yes budapest is inexpensive if you are home and cook all ur meals, if u drink beer at pubs, but not if you go clubbing and can drink 4 or 5 drinks. Students can live happily with 1000$ a month, but i wouldn t see why anyone older would move to have expat life in budapest to live with such a tight budget, even backpackers in thailand spend like 40$/ 50 $ a day.

Let me tell you what you can get with 2400$ = lets say you have rent/bills/ metro pass/ phone al that for 400$... You get 2000 $ left
That s 460 000 ft = 15333 ft a day or 450$ =108000 a week.

So let s do the math on a weekly level : 8000 FT= 35 $ shopping for your home needs every week ham/ cheese/ water/ bread/ few ready meals, fruits if you are eating one or 2 meals inside every day. If you want to cook almost all meals inside well add another 10 000 =40$ ( meat/ chicken).

So if we stay with option 1, u r a 100 000ft= 400$ now, you go to spa/ gym twice a week, that would set you back another 10000ft= 40$ (if you include / food refreshment every day) we are at 90 000= 360$ now.

One meal outside Lunch or dinner outside 5 times a week, if you eat average restaurant that s 25 000 ft = 100$ a week. so you are at 65000 =260$ now

You buy some cheap wine / utilities for your place for cleaning/ washing your cloth that s another 5000= 20$, 60000 = 240$ left

You go out at a average decent nightclub , you go in regular not vip , and get 3 hard liquor drinks / night and may be one for a girl you like , thats 40000= 160$ , so you have 20000 ft=80$ left.

So with you can have this 20000= 80$ extra to spare every week, if you catch flue get medication, get a haircut when you have to, by a tshirt/ polo/ comfy walking shoes, may be at a rainy night u ll just call a taxi instead of taking bus/ tram , indulge yourself with few treats i dunno.

As you see it s a realistic breakdown without anything fancy. Hope this helps vacancier, if you plan a trip one day pm me, i ll give u some tips.

As for the prices above here you go

Restaurant prices downtown:
Normal restaurant like Cafe Kor= Appetizer + cheapest main dish + diet coke = 5000 ft = 20$
Subway = 1 Foot long + coke= 2000ft= 8.5$
Very cheap restaurant like humus bar downtown = 2000 ft meal= 8.5$
MacDonald around that too

Clubs
Entrance to kraft or otkert= 1000ft /2000ft = 4 to 8 $
Black label= 1500 ft = 6.3$/ Vodka + ...= 1400= 6$
Martini bianco =1000= 4$

Taxi few kilo meters= 1500- 2000 = 6 to 9$

Spa entrance szeychini= 3600 ft = 14$

Taxi from airport to downtown is 7000ft = 28$

Haircut for man= 3000-4000= 14- 18$

Cheap Nike short= 7000 ft = 28$/ Gap tshirt= 5000ft= 20$/ gant polo =17000ft= 65$

Erotic massage = 60$ =15000 ft

This is where you are vastily wrong and I'm gonna make it painfully obvious
Even an expat in the city doesn't do things like this on a regular basis...maybe these are the prices you would pay if you are planning to do an extremely short trip in Budapest. and no be anywhere near the actually culture

Youre paying 20 dollars for a a meal? In Budapest... that is ridiculous.. when I could easily find place swhere I could pay the same price for 2 Meals of the same caliber

Mcdonalds and Subway are damn near considered high quality places in Europe.. they barely have a dollar menu and are expensive beyond reason.
Why the hell would you move to a place like Budapest only to shelter yourself in Mcdonalds.
Subway is overpriced as shit.. damn near twice the price as Subway in America..and thats before you even get a drink.

I can walk down the block even in the "tourist" parts and find a full hungarian meal for the same price as this.

If you are gonna live in the city...just cook your own shit.. its not hard... you rent an apartment with a kitchen, right?
use the damn thing

Clubs
Kraft and Otkert are not places that you go on a daily basis.
I drink vodka and other spirits at my house..and drink beer at those places. halfway through the night.. I switch to drinking tonic water, so I can actually function first thing in the morning.
I've met forum members with much more money than me..that don't drink much.

even then... you can meet quality pussy by walking down to a park near you and chatting up some girls 17-25.
have a date where you buy 2 bottles of wine for like 10 dollars max...walk her to the top of gellert and have a great night.

Taxis
Where the fuck are you traveling in Budapest?
The downtown area from Margaret bridge to Szabadsag is like a 35 minute walk. 40 at a slow place.
If youre trying to have good logistics..you will be probably be living near the center of the city and not on the outskirts.
Kraft.Otkert,BOB are easy 15 minutes walk from me.. it barely took me 12 minutes in light rain
If you live in the city.. no place should be more than 20 minutes walk.
And Ive never had one girl have a problem with walking from the club back to my place.
I walked with a hungarian girl from Instant.. to Bajza Ucta..easily a 20 minute walk while drink and her wearing heels.
Taxis are pretty useless in the city.

do you take Taxis in the day also? because paying 2khuf for a ride..even once a week is overpriced.. when you can get a monthly transportation ticket for 9.5khuf
I chose not to even renew mine..because if i really want to get somewhere.. i can pay 350huf for a ticket..and not 1000huf

If youre really crafty.. you give one the girls you know that is a student 4k huf and have get a student ticket.
they take down your id number when you get a month ticket..as if it would be matched to you.
i kept my month pass in the clear slot of my wallet and never took it out once to prove it was actually mine
Spa
The spa..again..not a think you do every day.
Even when I was making money...I wouldnt even be doing things like that in my hometown.
Spa is a ever now and then thing.
Ive done the tourist shit a bunch in the city..Spa, Zoo, Escape room.. I even got a thai massage this month
I host couch surfers every now and then..So I end up spending extra money if Im hanging with them

Taxi from airport
HAAAAA you paid 7000huf for that?
Are you kidding me? I came to budapest with 3 pieces of luggage.
And you know what I did?
I made 700huf aka 2 tickets.
1 ticket from the airport to Kopanya Kispest and 1 ticket into the city. each ticke cost 350huf
Am i simply surviving in budapest because i walked a kilometer to my apartment with a couple bags of luggage?
am I simply surviving in budapest because I wake up earlier to counteract the extra 30 minutes that it would take me to get to the airport as opposed to taking a taxi?

Haircut
I won't argue on haircut.. both my friend(white) and I go to a small nigerian barbershop and we pay 2500 for a haircut(including tip)
It doesn't seem like many people really need to get a haircut once a week.
our barber cuts hair, trims bear and all that for what we pay

[bClothes[/b]
We all know clothes in europe are more expensive than america.
but I would never be caught in a Gap for any reason
Ive bought button shirts for 2500huf easily.. and i dress extremely well.
maybe im not walking around in a blazer all day.
but if you look around and realize that their are guys at Kraft wearing shorts and sneakers.
Im wearing jeans and dress shoes...thinking im gonna show up underdressed..and I look better than 80 percent of the people there already

Erotic massage.. Im not even gonna comment on that.

For the purpose of this post.. I went and checked my bank statements.
I dont keep receipts.. I just withdraw money from an ATM and then pay everything in cash.

in 31 day period I have spent roughly 985 dollars in Hungary alone.
This includes my portion of rent in a location downtown central to nightlife, along with going out to eat every now and then and going to the zoo, spa, massage.
ive even done a couple paid tours in the city just so i could learn some extra history
i also have a gym membership which i pay nearly 60USD for,

Now If I factor in that I spent a weekend in Brno..and add my bank statements from there..then i spent roughly
1077
dollars
In this month.. ive managed 6 bangs. 2 of those girls being regulars in my rotation.
I think Im doing pretty well for myself and living extremely comfortable.( I dont want to include pictures of my apartment..but many vouched for members have seen pictures ive sent) and im in no way living in a shitty apartment.
On an extra 500 dollars a month..holy shit... maybe i would get fat and go to mcdonalds and take taxis places instead of actually walking around the city and getting to know my surroundings

I will be more composed and put it this way: I live in the center, 95 m2 flat. I live on 700 euros a month when I am not even budgeting or trying to save. I drink, party, save money and travel around Hungary. For non-Hungarian speakers, I think 1000 usd a month is about right. A few years ago I managed to live on as low as 60000 huf, when I used to be an intern.

My Life in Budapest- Sourcecode's Budapest Thread

First of all sourcecode you just proved exactly what i said:

1- Do you really think everyone would take public transport from the airport well taxi fares are like that. Switching with baggage.

2- You can find cheap meals anywhere in the city, but eating is not the same as enjoying food... so places like MENZA, CAFE KOR, CHEZ DANIEL plenty of others , well just google the menu prices and you ll see i am about right , you can also read reviews while you are at it at TA. Dude you may have stayed a month in budapest but you tried the cheap stuff, if you find 20$ 2 course meal very expensive well this conversation is going no where. Even subway for you is expensive. So you eat cheap food does that mean that most restaurants are cheap? Since you haven't tried most of those 20$ 2 meal restaurants how can you tell the cheap places you eat in are better.

3- As i said you drink beer, not drinks at a club, who would switch from spirits to beers except people on budget that don t want to spend at a club, or worse tonic.... i am sure you buy drinks for the girls you are chatting with, may be not in your player book to ask her what she is drinking just after saying Hello.

4-ROMKERT/ DOBOZ/ OTKERT/ RIO/ HELLO BABY / KRAFT /TRAFIQ well that s the least prices you ll find in any of them... Btw a martini at morrison 2 is 900 ft ( and that s is a uni pub)!!! of course tonic is less expensive but that s not an expat life that s a backpacker life. You don t drink in clubs does that mean the drinks are cheap for someone who drinks 3 drinks and would invite a girl for a couple?

5- Have you tried walking to rio, or morrison liget... well yeah sometimes you can use a taxi specially at getting back, lol yeah may be it would be lovely you take the girl u met in a bus back to your apartment.

6- So if you wear cheap brands does that mean that clothing is cheap? i don t get it really, dude when you give a cost of living like that ;some people might actually plan their trip on that and not all people would wear 10$ button shirts.

7- Well budapest is the city of spas, well washing this alcohol from the night before and enjoying it you can do that once a week unless you are on a damn tight budget.

8- Dude 6 bangs in a month wow lol , in budapest i manged 11 from 12 nights and with hungarian girls who are actually working there and make decent money, well i d love to see you pulling those with your tonic at a club, or they will buy you drinks of course...

9- Would give your hair to a random barber just to save 5- 10$ well ...no comment.

I am not trying to criticize you, you explained the cheap way of living , i gave info about decent way to live and enjoy budapest. You stayed for a month and you probably didn't scratch the surface of budapest, you can't enjoy the pleasures it has to offer.

Anyways any person planning a vacation can read what we both said and decide either to eat cheap restaurants, buy 10$ shirts (and call that shopping), drink vodka before the club to save money inside the club (great strategy), give his hair to any barber to save 5 $, take public transport from the airport because a taxi after a flight is overspending, never go to a spa because it s overrated and that s something you d once in a year (even hungarians go to the spas twice a week), consider taking a 7$ taxi once in a while wrong because it s overspending.... Or decide to spend more and enjoy budapest to the max....

Don t take this too personally but i feel you already have, but your way of living doesn't represent the normal way of life of many expats or tourists, none of whom i met would actually do the things you do to save money. You are living university type of living, that s what s called being on a tight budget, and i don t think there is a shame in that what so ever, but that s not the standard or comfy way of living.

I appreciate both perspectives in the budget conversation, but I don't understand the "you're not living comfortably" as an expat if you're not going to the bar 5 nights a week, dropping $20 a meal, pulling a new girl every night while still doing p4p, and regularly going to a spa argument.

That sounds like the budget of someone who is on vacation or retired, not someone who is living there. For the purposes of this forum, 9 times out of 10 that's going to include a guy who is working in some form, eating right and hitting the gym, etc., which the lifestyle jake is describing is definitely not conducive to.

There's always a lot of variance in these discussions regardless of the location, but I don't see why guys can't just say, "here's my budget, here's what it gets me" without all the "you're not living the right way" bickering.

What jake999 fails to mention is that he literally stays in 5 star hotels with amazing views, pays to skip queues and get his own table in the VIP, buys girls drinks, goes to spas often and eats at restaurants for every meal. Him spending $4,500 in two weeks playing mogul game in Budapest is his (enviable) prerogative, but not being open and honest about his lifestyle on his trips when he discusses Budapest's prices does a huge disservice to anyone considering a visit. Most RVF'ers are going to spending like Sourcecode, not balling out like jake999.

to be more specific .yea. peaches Facebook page has a good supply of picturesand so does kraft.

and yea Jake.maybe you can find a way to spend 5k in less than a month, but very few people are doing that. You say I'm unrealistic in spending 1k a month, but 4.5k in two weeks is even worse.

I went off and talked to locals and friends in the city and I couldn't find anyone going to a spa twice a week.
even the girls at high end clubs don't have money do that regularly.
from the sweet village girl to the club rat. a lot if them don't even go out like that every weekend.

that could also be a reason a lot of these girls aren't trying to go home so quick with guys.
they come to dance and splurge once a month.

the true club rats are the girls going to instant and such.and they surely aren't throwing around more than a grand a month either.

Chiming in here because why the fuck not. Spent my first weekend in BUD, now transitioning to Sziget festival which will likely be non-representative of any non-Sziget experience.

Going to have to go somewhere in the middle of Source and Jake. I too like to ball the fuck out (source can attest to this a bit) but even with that, nice apartment, tables, buying tons of drinks, restaurant every meal, etc this city is still cheap as fuck. You can pretty much get VIP/Tables for the same price you would pay for GA @ Amnesia in Ibiza or Hakkasan in Vegas or Marquee in NYC, etc, etc. For a more direct comparison Dom P was something like 40k HUF or ~$170 compared to $600+ at most top tier 1st world clubs. It's all relative. I think the biggest point is that whatever your style of partying back home you can get 2-3x increase in quality OR reduction in cost.

You guys have shared excellent data, dishy details, lots of useful information which we gratefully eat up.

But as for the cock and ball ego displays, save it for club night! (I especially refer to Jake999 and Sourccode, naturally.)

Different means to common ends. Dick measuring is not my style.

At different times of life and places, we've all had larger or meagre budgets. Like education debts in one's 20s or divorce payments later in life. (Or simply investing monies elsewhere - including savings for further adventures!) All of these ends have their time and place in a life well-lived.

Meanwhile, the biological urge to meet and mate inspires our lust for adventure and the goal of satisfying our lust for women. That's basic for why we put up with all the Bovi Excrement of life. Save it for real time, not cyber time, please.
