You want to watch out for Brita filters. They weren't designed to purify alcohol, which will denature the plastic and leach a bunch of chemical shit into your booze. Buy a pound or two of activated carbon, a gallon of rot-gut popov vodka, and a large glass bottle (should have plenty of those lying around), throw some activated carbon into the mix, let it sit for a few days and filter it into a Grey Goose bottle with a coffee filter. Chill and serve.

Edit: Since you're in college, hit up the local chemistry lab and you can probably get some activated carbon for free.

Yeah, you're talking about a filtration process I used in organic chem. Thanks.

In the UK, booze is so cheap at the shops such that pubs are closing down like there is no tomorrow.

I was in London about 3 weeks ago, and I found that the average price of alcohol was probably three-quarters that of the average price in the US. In Amsterdam, I picked up 2 liters of Johnnie Walker Red for 29 euros, or about $40 US. In my state, it's $35.95 for 1 liter of Johnnie Walker Red.

Apparently it isn't sold in my state.

I'm not a fan of vodka, but most of my vodka experiences have been with shitty vodkas.

I'll drink bourbon, whiskey, scotch, rum, beer, and (sometimes) tequila.

The boxed wines have been mentioned before, but it can be reiterated. The quality of such wines has actually improved a lot thanks to modern wine production processes.

The important thing for you is to know which ones will best suit your tastes and preferences. Don't get a box of Pinot Noir if you want something tannic and gripping like a Cabernet.

Ok bro, let's do this.
The LaserBear Cheap College Drink List
(Prices based on Midwest american prices as that's what I know)

Wine
Because you want her to want it.
$5/bottle
Yellow Tail Moscato.
It tastes like sparkling grape juice and what more can I say.
You get to invite her for a wine night, but don't have to develope a taste for wine.
Every chick loves it, and its cheap enough you can burn through three bottles for about the cost of a drunken taco bell run.

Vodka
Its strong and she is weak.
$9-$18/fifth
For cost effective this is the answer.
You don't beat the simplicity of vodka.
Bitches love Burnettes and it comes in a variety of fruity nauseating flavors they eat up for some god forsaken reason.
For you?
Titos, its roughly $18 a bottle, smoother than a freshy shaved 18 freshman, and tastes just as good.
Oh, and its made in Texas. 'Merica! Fuck yeah!

Whiskey
Her daddy always drank it.
$15/fifth if I recall right.
Evan Williams. It looks like Jack and doesn't taste like crap. I used to drink this stuff exclusively. 9/10 girls won't touch it, but the 1/10 that ask for a shot will touch you 10/10 times.

Rum
Arrg, we all just want some booty.
$10/fifth
Admiral Nelson. Tastes just as good or better than Captain (pending on who you ask), costs way less, and hell... he's ranked higher than that pussy Morgan, why isnt Admiral Nelson the first choice already?

Beer
Beer goggles, friend or foe?
Pick your campus's favorite. Prices vary by state. Your local frat keg will know the best bet.

@laserbear

Good 'ol Burnetts. That shit has fueled the majority of my crazy, debauchery filled nights.

Since I'm tight with my local liquor spot owner he always gives me the sale price, so any flavor I want for $7.50 a bottle. I can usually get handles for $14-15 too.

I usually do liquor for date events or something special other than a normal night out. Other than that, it's natty fuckin light til the cows come home.

Jesus Christ, I dunno how you boys can handle that Natty Light. Hangover in a can.

I'll second Tito's and Evan Williams.

In Mexico, the mezcal is cheap and goes down like a fine single malt scotch. I'm gonna try and smuggle a couple bottles in my check in bag.

And the mezcal buzz is just as quality as scotch.

That's the thing with the cheap shit...the buzzes are cheap, fast, and kill your energy. Opposite of the good stuff.

Anyone ever try the cheap vodka through the Brita filter trick?

Also +1 on Tito's. I always think of tits when I drink Titos.

Tito's is an excellent value for the money but not cheap exactly

Unless... you buy one of those big bottles of Grey Goose once, and forever thereafter refill it with Titos. Baller on a budget and no one will be the wiser [Image: wink.gif]

Best cheap bourbon is Evan Williams

Best cheap Tennessee whiskey is George Dickel

Best widely available cheap rum in the US is Cruzan, two bucks or so less than Bacardi and better

Ive been drinking a lot of Rex Goliath lately.

These things retail at $5! I actually pay $4.38 at my local grocer, its a 750mL bottle. I started buying them because I wanted to start trying wine with my dinner after a long drinking hiatus. But their a great way to get girls pleasantly drunk at a perfect 13.5%. I like taste of the Free Range Red. The Pinot Noir is good too.

After my first couple bottles I felt like trying some better (more expensive) wines. Even though they cost more I enjoy the Goliath way more. Its fast becoming my favorite drink.

On a side note, I like the "drunk" that accompanies wine more than beer. Its a warmer, more full blooded, hornier drunk. No performance issues. You do get real sleepy though towards the end of the night.

I've used Sangria more than once as a pre-bedtime drink.

If you can find Genesee (Cream or regular), I'd strongly advise making that your fridge stocking beer. Stuff is cheap as shit (was $10 per 30-rack in Upstate New York when I went to college. It is currently $15 a 30-rack here in Denver.) That price point puts you below PBR, Highlife, Natty, Keystone, Busch, etc., and the quality of beer is relatively close to Bud Heavy.

If you are around the eastern US, then Yuengling in cans can get pretty cheap too. Probably down to $16 for a case. Depending on your geographic location, that could be competitive with the same cheap beers above. However, it is probably the best macro beer on the market. Better than Boston Lager in my opinion.

For whiskey, I'd go with Evan Williams or Ezra Brooks. Both are solid for the price point. Sometimes liquor stores will put Jim Beam white on clearance.

As said before, Tito's is your best bang-for-the-buck vodka. It is a little pricey for a college student, but it is better than Grey Goose.

I personally don't fuck with cheap tequila so I have no recommendations in that department.
