Does anyone here have any experiences in cities outside Phnom Penh, specifically Sihanoukeville (i.e. Sinville). it's the only beach city in the country and am expecting it to be wild for the 31st. Here's hoping its got more than just white trash backpacker chicks..

I've not been to Sihanoukville, but I've been to Siem Reap. Beyond Borders has been to much more, he's the resident Cambo expert, though I approached it from the standpoint of someone who'd spent a lot of time in China, and he as someone who'd spent a lot of time in Thailand.

PP is calling me. Just re-read Global Entry's datasheet, watched the video above, and checked out hotels around Riverside.

Having a lot of trouble with two clients right now though that is preventing me from pulling the trigger because I have to get this shit fixed up before I do anything else.

Rio, I'd consider not staying in Riverside (and definitely not paying extra money to stay there). Look around Central Market as well, as its a short ride away from Riverside by tuk tuk and much less seedy. Or you could move further south from touristy riverside where BB lived for a while, and get a decent place for 10 USD per night (I'll let BB weigh in on this).

What's your budget and how long do you think you'll stay.

I'm pretty adamant (as someone who has no say so in the convo) that you first hit Siem Reap and see Angkor Wat (if you've not yet) and then bounce down to PP after, depending on how much time you have.

Probably will stay for 5-7 days. It'll just be PP. I don't do any sight seeing. Isn't my thing. I don't like art or sunsets either. Probably something wrong with me.

Angkor Wat looks really cool, and I'd go it if were around PP, but I'm not going to sit on a bus to go there. Not on this trip at least. I plan to fly in/out of PP, so no 5 hour bus rides for me.

Anyone used Tinder in PP?

Is there many rich/educated Cambodian girls on it there?

Are you stuck on PP, Rio? I'm in Battambang now. Arrived yesterday. Much mellower city, but they say the most beautiful women in the country come from here. I'm sure there are some decent clubs sprinkled here and there for those with money, and there is money here, plus you'd stand out a lot more as a foreigner. Probably a lot less filtering the prostitutes.

So far the food seems pretty good. There's a rep for that here too. I already located a gym and going to go check it out today.

From what I gather, I sense that Battambang is like Chiang Mai in being the cultural center of Cambodia. Of course, Siem Reap is where the temples are, but I'm talking more about more modern culture.

I'll probably pop into PP in about a week or a week and a half if you're arriving later in the month.

Yeah, I'll stick to PP for this trip, but both Battambang and Sihanoukville are places I'd like to go. I don't know much about Siem Reap.

I got a buddy who will be in PP for 20 days who has been there quite a few times before, so I'm gonna hook up with him, assuming I end up going. Gotta sort my schedule out.

Right on. I think I like it here. The pace might be a bit slow for you though.

I want to get a shitload of work done, so it's all good for now. All I want is the gym, walks on the riverside, the ocaissional moto trip into the countryside, and my head in my computer. Feeling hyper-motivated to get shit done but random shit keeps pulling me away, so I want to cut the world off and zone out.

Hit me up with a pm when you've got an inkling of an actual date though. You never know.

On another note, I was having breakfast with some local I met at the gym, and he tells me he has a maid do all his cooking, cleaning, and laundry for $100 a month. 21-year-old kid. It couldn't be any easier to be a young bachelor.

Not a huge online dating market in PP. Badoo is probably your best bet.

I went, 5-6 years ago. Back then it was a pretty depressive place imo, specifically the first district I stayed, which was full of old Belgian looking men and their young companions. This was called something along the lines of weather station district I think.

Closer to the beach it was better, I stayed at a nice hotel and just relaxed. However, not worth the visit back then, as the beaches weren't particularly nice either.

If you wanted to measure PP vs other spots in SEA (and if I could ever get the grid project up and running, this threads could be simplified or verified), on the basis of cost, it seems cheaper significantly than Manila and somewhat cheaper than BKK. Internet speeds are definitely, IME, better than Manila. I couldn't say vs. BKK, though perhaps the same. Getting laid is easier in Manila, with the average 19-23 year old girls walking around, and PP felt a bit more conservative in general than BKK, outside the respective red-light districts of course. I found english to be commonly spoken in PP, more than BKK in some cases (or with more comfort) and of course, less than Manila. Chinese is very helpful in PP as well, especially for the older generation and transplants. Mario, its definitely worth considering. There are plenty of decent looking women around. Perhaps grab a place for 1-2 months in a decent guesthouse and check it out.

Haha theres no considering, I'm moving there in March for work. I just wanted to see what the talent is looking like. This will be my first time in SEA so I'm sure I'll have a blast either way.

Should have stuck them in a Cambodian jail for at least a month to set an example.

BB, these are some solid video reports; you're taking it to the next level. Cambo is a fascinating place to document, and the conditions to do so from a scooter are ideal. Perhaps one day you could give motovlogging a shot.

$6/night for a spacy studio w/private bathroom is a steal, period. But you may want to invest in of these. [Image: banana.gif]

There was a brief mention of Pradal Serey (Kun Khmer) in the Muay Thai training forum. Have you had the chance to train this form in Cambo?

I would not want to be on the wrong side of one of these elbow strikes.

haha That bed thing is funny. Don't think I'll stick in this place too long. Probably upgrade to 250 or 300 a night after a month or so.

I've checked out some Bokator but not Pradal Serey yet. They're pretty bad-ass out here though.

I'm going to do a video report on driving the motos with some safety techniques a lot of new guys may not know.

I was in Battambang for a week or so a couple years back. Seemed super chill, could definitely see it becoming a Chiang Mai type of place. I found no real nightlife though; didn't see the wealth mentioned either. Only got a couple girls with with day game. I was doing the poor backpacker thing at the time though, so its possible the finer elements of society naturally eluded me.

I'm thinking of spending a month or so in PP in the near future. BB, any recommendations on a $300-$400/month place? Looking to get a lot of computer work done during the days, get some gym in, and find some girls in the evenings.
