Bangkok Datasheet (Nightlife: Getting it right)

So much information on the forum already for BKK - I do have a couple of further insights on where to hit up however.

It should probably be noted though: I am a recent uni graduate, 6'7" tall and only have a few years of game under the belt. Enjoy.

BANGKOK DATASHEET 2014

Nightlife

Brick Bar (Khao San): A hidden gem in backpacker hell. Catering to an almost exclusively Thai crowd, this place was a nice surprise on the Khao San strip. The basic setup is you have a few bands from 10pm through till 1.30ish - playing everything from shitty Thai songs to Bruno Mars' latest hits. Cool, right? Thankfully the Thai people get really into it and by 1am you'll see a fair few girlies dancing up on the tables (the Thais love a drink).

This place is happening every day of the week, but good luck moving around on a Saturday night. I don't recall being in any way turned down for conversation - and although Thai girls are a little hesitant to give out their number - it doesn't take that much to persuade them (or you can just get whatsapp).

If you're looking for your Hi-So types, you probably won't find them here (good luck might I add), but what you will find is a steady stream of approachable 7s and 8s. Expect to come out at 1.30am with a phone full of numbers, and a somewhat lighter wallet as drinks are at a premium. Recommended.

999 West (Khao San): After being invited by Thai friends I had made at Brick Bar, I was taken over to 999 West - another predominantly Thai venue in the fuckhole that is Khao San Road.

Sort of a dive-bar set up with sticky floors. You probably won't find the same quality of girl as you would in Brick Bar, but expect to see the odd stunner who has drunk way too much talking to Thai dudes with weak-ass game. I did get a ONS here on my second visit with a very cute Thai number, and then again on my next visit with a decent blonde Aussie who had lost her friends (that poor thing).

It should be noted that you may receive a few blow-outs here from girls with their 'foreigner guard' up. The after-hours clubs on Khao San are really hit-and-miss.

This place is open till 3 or 4am if I recall correctly, and drink prices are reasonable. Recommended.

Cliff Club (Khao San): This is where your night will end if you've done it tough for a good few hours on Khao San, but are still hungry for some nightlife.

If you thought 999 West was seedy, you are in for a real treat. Expect to see a few Thai versions of Lil' Wayne with neck tattoos, grills and some bling. This place opens through till almost 7am, so it definitely brings out all the club rats of BKK's Old City and surrounds.

Watch out if you come here more than once though - many of the girls there are complete sluts that go here several times a week. Expect to bump into familiar/ unwanted faces.

Again, a predominantly Thai nightclub, music is bass-heavy and loud. Girls are easy. No other bars are open, so expect to pay a premium for drinks, but besides that watch out for drunk Thai girls passing out next to you.

If you are comfortable banging a 6 or 7 by the end of the night, you will definitely pick up here.

Mulligan's Irish Pub (Khao San Road): Besides the clubs and bars previously mentioned thus far, this is probably the place you are least likely to find an Irishman on Khao San. I'd say the clientele is about 75% Thai, and its open 24/7 (ie. you can still pick up here at 8am on a Sunday morning, no joke).

Drinks are comparatively cheaper here, but this was my go to date spot for girls I met at Brick Bar or elsewhere in the Khao San area. Recommended.

The Club (Khao San Road): Full of backpackers in thongs and hippie pants. I was here for 5 minutes around midnight, got hit on by some sub-par German girls and then went back to Brick Bar.

Classic backpacker bar set-up. Ridiculously easy girls, but yeah: you've been warned.

Cosmic Cafe (RCA): This is a cool little bar towards the ass-end of the RCA strip. I didn't come here for any other reason than there was a legit RATM and RHCP cover band playing, so I peeked in for a beer and a smoke. Pretty quiet - just a few expats and a couple of cuties that were with the band.

Came back the next week however to find the place absolutely packed. Heaps of cute girls that liked decent music, kind of an upmarket hipster vibe. Just hit this up for a little while before heading to a proper club.
Worth checking out if you're into your music.

Route 66 (RCA): Probably the most complete 'club' I went to in all of Bangkok - it was fairly large, about a 70% Thai crowd and lots of drunk and approachable girls.

It has, like almost all major clubs in Bangkok, shitty Thai bands playing, but to an exclusively Thai crowd on the far-side. This is where I spent most of my time in the club - simply scouting out numbers and having a dance or two with pretty girls. It was nice.

This was also only one of two places in Bangkok where I got cockblocked by Thai dudes. Just some forewarning.

Once it gets a little later and the bands wind down, just head over to the club-side where you'll probably see a 50-50 split of foreigners to Thais - the girls will be drunk however, and you can get that elusive RCA ONS pretty easily with an okay girl.

Demo (Ekkamai): Its like a dive bar for celebrities? I actually really dug the vibe here and got a few numbers of some crazy attractive girls (who flaked for dates, might I add).

Only regret is not finding this place earlier in my one month stay, because it was probably the best fit for me personally in regards to talent and style of bar.

Like many of the larger clubs in BKK, you pay a foreigner fee that gives you 2 drinks of your choosing inside. After running out of beer (in a bar?), the bartender recommended he made me a cocktail instead. His 'cocktails' were just gin and vodka served in a high-ball on ice. So you would be hard pressed to call this place expensive. 2 of those badboys was plenty.

When you get sick of Bruno Mars covers (you will), come here for some normal music as there is no live band playing.

Nung-Len (Ekkamai): You will be the only non-Thai dude here apart from expats that are there with their girlfriends. I was received really well here compared to other places in the Ekkamai/ Thong Lo area, which is saying something. Expect to get numbers - I ended up going back to some Thai girls apartment from here who was more than 10 years my senior (I know) - but the Ekkamai area is probably going to be the hardest area for a ONS.

Plenty of talent, but once again, only if you can bare the pop covers. Has a pleasantly-sized smokers area where you can spin a routine. Recommended.

Muse (Ekkamai/ Thong Lo): Mixed feeling about this place. Similar set-up to Nung-Len except its hard to pick up around the bar area and smokers. I went over to the dance floor where I got a make-out from a cute Thai girl, but for the most part I wouldn't bother.

Mostly Thais here, but a weird vibe. Got told by security to stop talking to a girl mid-conversation. So odd.

Funky Villa (Ekkamai): My least favourite club I went to, due to the impossibility of easily talking to girls with how their tables are set-up. If I recall correctly the Thai band playing wasn't quite as bad as other places I'd been, but nothing to brag about.

I went here twice: once by myself and hated it, then again with a girl I met from Cliff Club which was okay.

Thai crowd, but there are better venues out there.

Safehouse (Ekkamai): Only after hours club in the area. Easy to pick up, but its expensive and the quality will be lower than in the other places in Ekkamai.

Like after-hours clubs in Khao San, expect it to be hit-and-miss with the girls.

Soi Cowboy (Sukhumvit/ Asoke): I'm sure you are well aware of the infamous Soi Cowboy in Bangkok. Its just a street of go-go bars and working girls.

Unless you're into shoring or paying for sex don't expect to get girls here, but I can confirm it was pretty cool just seeing the Japanese business dudes making it rain at one of the bigger go-gos.

Thoroughly enjoyed my month in Bangkok. The reply rate for my date set-ups was really low, but it is a numbers game - so approach like a madman and you can rack up a few notches here pretty easily.

Any follow up questions I am more than happy to answer, but I think that there is so much info out there on the forum that I'd simply be in repeat mode if I go past the nightlife I experienced. You're welcome.

Yeah wasn't staying close to Levels, and Slim/ Flix seemed to have a older crowd going in. Brick Bar is worth the trip over - definitely a fun night out.

Good info there. My favorites are also Route 66 and Demo.
I'm back in BKK for a month, so PM me if anyone is interested in hunting HiSo girls.

I didn't like the setup of Route 66 with all the tables and bottle service filling what would be the dance floor in most other clubs. It was absolutely packed and hard to move around to see who's there. Outside area wasn't as bad. Met some girls in the outside smoking areas and brought them back to the table. It was the same setup with with slim/flix, These clubs must be making a ton of money with so much space dedicated to bottle service. I hope it doesn't catch on elsewhere.
