According to anti-discrimination laws in housing, your answer is yes.

Quote:Quote:

Should we force him not to be racist?

Non-sequitur. He can be racist all he wants. The people of Los Angeles would rather not have him representing their most prominent athletic team. The NBA is a private organization so they have the right to force him out if they choose. Advertisers can pull out and people can refuse to go to the games while he is owner. Bad behavior will come around to bite you in the ass. Like I said above, this was all the law of attraction at work. Scumbag dude attracts scumbag chic and now his chickens came home to roost.

Quote:Quote:

It's illegal to use race as criteria in housing. This isn't just for Sterling.

Most prominent team? In LA? lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

And he doesn't represent the Clippers. He OWNS the team.

If the people of LA don't like him maybe they can fire up a referendum to buy the team from Sterling....

The Lakers should buy the Clippers and create a Super Team. The parts would fit perfectly.

Partially true.

If you're a black, hispanic (or even white) male, it's perfectly legal to have housing denied to you.

Case and point: "girls only" apartments listed on craigslist.

If they do this to Sterling, how can they not do it to Jay Z for wearing a 5% Nation chain?

How can Spike Lee be employed by the NBAs Sirius radio channel?

I see no problem with Sterlings punishment. However, I see a huge problem with everyone turning a blind eye to Jay Z wearing a racist and anti white organizations symbol to Nets games, and Spike Lee being every bit as racist as Sterling, yet still working for the NBA in some capacity, and being allow court side at NBA games.

The big take-away from this social study is that "Reverse Racism" is alive and well.

Lesson #1- Only associate with people of high moral integrity. No hoodrats in the inner circle, period.

Lesson #2- Dont mix biz and pleasure especially when it comes to money. The wife will forgive an affair, but she won't forgive stealing. Same goes for partners in biz. Steal from me repeatedly and emotions will rise. Emotions reaching crescendo = stupid, hasty and rash decisions

Lesson #3- Employ the "Jumbotron test" (first lifted from SovereignMan and later repurposed by Roissy)- Dont say or text anything that you wouldn't be comfortable voicing in a public setting

I am of the opinion that this "leak" is a capitalized biz move. Something is going on, behind the scenes, that the 99% aren't aware of. I wouldn't be suprised if somebody steps in and purchases the Clippers for cheap.

"Though Crimes" are common place tactics. Its interesting to see that we have adopted many of the tactics used by our bitter Cold War arch-enemy Russia or WWII rival Hitler and his propaganda machine. Its become a method for confiscation of assets/power from wealthy (and not politically connected) to politically connected.

Arguably this tactic honed and crafted for hundreds of years- starting from feudal disputes stretching up to today. Before you'd lose your money and your head. Nowadays in the USA, its all about hitting the pocket-book and satisfying the public Schadenfreude (Roughly translated from german to mean pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others). Nothing gives the average person more joy than seeing somebody above them fail.

Today, more than ever, its important to be cautious what you say because the digital footprint and archiving insure that it will stay for your lifetime.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

I guess this has now become the Sterling thread, so I'll post this fascinating update here:

Donald Sterling pledged $3 million to UCLA researcher Dr.Ira Kurtz to study the structure of the kidney.

The first payment of $425,000 was made a month ago. UCLA is returning that money, and will refuse any additional money from Sterling.

It may also be worth mentioning that kidney disease affects blacks at a rate 3x greater than whites.
http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/kustats/#6

So in essence, Kidney research that would directly help prolong the life of blacks has lost $3M. Meanwhile the NBA fines $2.5M which will be given to feel good charities that study racism.

The Don saves 500K.

A billionaire asks his African-American mistress not to post certain pictures on Instagram.

This is that what the “legacy of race and slavery and segregation” has come down to.

The political motive to make Donald Sterling the poster boy for 21st century racism is obvious, but is he actually a racist? I have never met the man, but it doesn’t seem probable. He owns a basketball team on which 12 of the 14 players are black. The coach is black. Sterling has black friends, like Magic Johnson--it was an Instagram photo of Stiviano with Johnson that precipitated the fatal argument. Johnson reacted angrily, vowing never to attend another Clippers game. Yet Sterling has long considered Johnson a friend--on the tape, he tells Stiviano that Johnson is worthy of respect.

On the tape, Donald Sterling says, “I love the black people.” I can’t vouch for his sincerity, but there is nothing in the DMZ/Deadspin tapes that belies that sentiment. It is telling that this domestic upheaval between an aging billionaire and his gold-digging, disloyal mistress represents the best the Left can come up with to support its claim that racism and the “legacy of race and slavery and segregation” are alive and well. As for Sterling, he is merely collateral damage. That Lifetime Achievement award was almost in his grasp, when he became more useful to the Left as a villain. Something tells me, however, that Stiviano will become the next internet celebrity.

big whoop.

A ridiculously wealthy old guy gets "stripped". Does he care? I think not.

And, are you trying to tell me that at least one or two or more of the other "squeaky owners" are REALLY squeaky clean as regards their feelings on their teams filled with blacks?

I remember when I first listened to the leaked audio tape... I spent the whole time wondering when something overtly racists was going to be said. I was hearing it exactly as the guy in the above video was describing it. The guy in the video makes excellent points that are very rational. Imagine the backlash if the media didn't push the leak into viral status? Everyone got too emotional over what was on the tape. Not many people sat down to let those emotions diffuse. Sterling was a shitty owner, and the league will be a better place when that team is in more deserving hands. Then again, same applies to the Knicks and Lakers.

Edit: It is disappointing how many people can't see past the smoke and mirrors in this situation.

Think about it. If you want to play ball at this level, there are exactly 360 jobs available (actually, less, since positions aren't interchangeable, a guard probably can't play center for example). It pays really well, and you've probably dreamed of doing this your entire life. So what would you do in this situation?

This is just dumb. Was some other large donor was out there saying my money is dead to you if you accept this donation? Did Sterling attach some kind of strings to the donation? If this was free & clear money, this is just idiocy.

Interesting article that describes some of the other NBA owners.

Part below.
Quote:Quote:

Adam Silver has a parade of laudable business partners that he inherited from his morally ambiguous predecessor, David Stern.

The new NBA commissioner has a business partner in Washington who doesn’t know the difference between a tax code and "class warfare," who bribes bloggers, slugs fans, bulldozes the neighboring Chinatown population into Virginia so he can help put up more Hooters, and asserts that we should all be grateful for the privilege of subsidizing his team.

He has a business partner in Orlando who is so righteous he has poured millions into anti-gay marriage initiatives, because gays "keep asking for favors" and "special treatment," and marriage is "not vital to them, in my opinion."

He has a business partner in Cleveland that made billions in the mortgage business, many of them by passing subprime loans along to the ultimate thieves, Countrywide, which greased the derivative machine that helped destroy the global economy.

He has a business partner in Oklahoma City who made his billions through fracking, which has been linked to everything from toxic drinking water to earthquakes to climate change, and then screwed landowners out of their royalties when business went bad.

He has a business partner in Brooklyn who is an oligarch, that special kind of patriot who uses political connections to grab billions in state-owned assets for micropennies on the dollar, leaving much of the population to starve in the feudal cesspool left behind.

And yes, he has a business partner in Los Angeles who is a slumlord that refused to rent to minorities because they are "not desirable tenants," and because "black tenants smell and attract vermin," and "Mexicans sit around and drink all day," leading to a humongous settlement of a federal housing lawsuit; and who has some scary attitudes toward women, which has led to harassment suits and yet more settlements.

You beat me to it, I assume ALL the owners think like this guy and just put on a public face.
I also assume the majority of people think this way, so to me this is not a big shock. I am sure there are more than a few people on this forum who think this way, that is life and I have accepted this a long time ago.
I am more upset about the players and their weak protest, wearing a shirt inside out proves what?? Nothing. Sure you can say what about their millions etc, I say what about their respect.
So now you are a million dollar slave and Massa can talk to you anyway he wants.
The so called punishment only makes me laugh, dude is not going to lose a penny. If he sells the team he stands to make millions if not close to a billion. I agree that this might have been some backhanded plot to get him in a corner to sell the team.
I ain't mad at the man, I am laughing at how weak he is. The man is worried some black guy is going to smash his "girl", guess what its already happened.
I am laughing that he needs to buy her expensive gifts to keep a girl who i don't consider all that attractive.

My takeaway from this - sports is a waste of my time, it is a distraction and topics like this an even bigger distraction.
Game is real, whether you have billions or coins.
In life you are being hustled or you are hustling.
I don't want people to like me, but they will respect me

He doesn't want his gal hanging around black dudes even though he owns a team full of black guys, in a league comprising 80 % black players.
He was a slum lord before and didn't want to rent to Hispanics or Blacks because he thought they attract vermin and are dirty.
I am not defending the girl, I have no animosity towards her. Obviously she was baiting the guy to say those things, her fake I love you dear stuff is hilarious.
Why the fuck would he need to but her all that crap, Ferrari and a Bentley etc.
The girl has Game and you can't tell me there isn't a line of girls waiting to fill her place (seeking arrangement game anyone)
Is not him being a 'racist piece of shit' not his choice?
Should he have to love black guys?
Should he have to rent to Hispanics or Blacks?

Should we force him not to be racist?
Should we force him to rent to blacks and hispanics?

Guy has no game, he's 80, that I agree.

If you look at history. It was Mitt Romney's dad George under the Nixon Administration. That made the Fair Housing Act

Quote:Quote:

Fair Housing Act
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and disability.

So Sterling denying housing to Blacks, Hispanics, and Koreans is a crime.

It's possible. Big Business is cut throat. But Sterling still takes an L for leaving himself open like that.

Sterling has been a known racist for years. Because of his insecurity. He got caught on tape saying some questionable things about Blacks. If the NBA came down weak on Sterling. It could have been a domino effect. That could have affected the very brand of the NBA itself. When you weight the odds. Sterling is a small fish. So he's out.

He's 80 years old. He's lived a long life and fucked every 10 on every continent. I'm not crying for him. Lesson to young masters. Don't get comfortable and sloppy at any age.

According to some more hearsay and speculation, could be Mike Milken behind the curtain in buying the Clippers: http://isteve.blogspot.com/2014/04/magic...ports.html

tl;dr: Magic Johnson's investment in the Dodgers deal was minimal. The bigger investors in the deal was Guggenheim Partners. One of Guggenheim Partner's largest investors is famed 80s Junk Bond king Mike Milken. Because Milken is banned by the feds/SEC to trade or engage in the investment biz, he simply acts behind the scenes.

A bit of of stretch, but fun to add a bit of "Chinatown"-esque twist to an overhyped story.

Rule #1 for big ballers with sugar babies. Don't buy them a fucking car.

Lease it in your name. Take it back when you are done with her. Use a repo outfit if necessary.

Rule #2 Rent or lease an apartment if you must. Don't buy anything permanent as you will have a helluva time getting her out.

Rule #3 Only buy things like clothes, jewelry and consider it cost of business. Only spend what you feel is equal to what you get in return.

The above will keep your own interests protected and she will know she doesn't have carte blanche as she can lose everything in a heartbeat if you so chose.
