A blogger from FreedomFromThought blog weighed in the comments:

Women Are Not Mysterious

Take a wild guess: Men think this because of misogyny and privilege!

Check out some intellectual heavyweights in the comments:

Quote:Quote:

This is an issue on which I don’t think there’s a real problem if the roles are reversed; that is, that many women go around saying men are impossible to understand.

There’s a reason for that: it’s impossible to grow up in our society without learning about what it’s like to be a man, whether one gets one’s ideas from the literature we read in school, movies, or reality TV. It is, on the other hand, completely possible to graduate from college having read very few or no works of literature that deal with being a woman, never mind the reinforcement from the mainstream media that to be male is normal. So, yeah, we’re a lot better at understanding men (or at least predicting their likely behavior) than men are at understanding us. That’s because we’ve spent our lives studying them, not because we’re mysterious and they’re simple. Isn’t that totally obvious?

Of course, the same thing is true about other axes of privilege– a white person has to go out of his or her way to learn about what it is like to be a person of color in our community, etc.

Literally, one of the dumbest ideas out there is that "privilege gives insight into the 'oppressors' lives, and 'oppressors' have to go out of their way to learn about the groups they 'oppress.'"

Media isn't about reporting truth. I guess in order to be yet another mindless left-wing voice in the cacophony of left-wing voices, you can't understand how media works.

Comparing race to sex is simply astounding. Everybody interacts with members of the opposite sex - heard of heterosexuality? People can often work and live primarily with members of their own race. Just because they see them in media or read about them in books means nothing about their understanding of them.

Quote:Quote:

I think another point is pertinent. I think men’s general lack of understanding of women has it’s source in violence and the threat of violence. Violence and threat of violence is a factor in almost every aspect of women’s life experience. That is the main difference between male and female life experience. Men are tempted to think that we face more violence than women so what’s the big deal. Fact is for men threat of violence usually has some measure of choice and it is not everywhere. Fact is for women it is more dangerous to step out of the house and more dangerous to stay in the house than it is for we men. Danger is not only in an elevator late at night, it is every where. We men can generally go about our daily affairs without even thinking about it. That’s the difference. Take any stage of a boy’s or man’s life and we are substantially physically safer and that is everywhere in the world.

We make up -- what -- 85% of violent crime victims?

The big doozy:

Quote:Quote:

Anyone is mysterious if you try to infer the reasons for their actions without asking them.

I’ve found that most humans are all too happy to explain what they’re thinking if you ask. But asking is so hard and so risky it’s much safer and easier to leap to conclusions and make false assumptions. Right?

A man who thinks this - is a huge mangina 100% of the time. Just ask them.

Quite a nice list, with predictably hamsterrific reactions. My favorites:

Quote:Quote:

- 45. You Should Compliment Him More

Hey, women aren’t the only ones who like compliments. Tell him he looks good, tell him he’s smart, whatever. He needs to hear that shit every once in a while.

38. If He Cheats On You Once, he’ll Do It Again

Even if he apologizes and honestly regrets it, if you let him get away with it, it WILL happen again.

32. Whatever It Is You Want In Bed, He WILL Do It

Don’t be embarrassed to ask for it. Whatever you sickest, most twisted sexual fantasy, it’s PG-13 material compared to the shit that goes on in his head.

28. He Hates That Short Haircut

Very few women can pull off that pixie hairdo (although the ones that can do it beautifully). He likes your hair long, so don’t go chopping it all off without running it by him first. How would you feel if he got a Mohawk or grew a rattail?

17. You’ve Got To Watch Your Weight

Oh shit, did I really say that? Well, it’s true. Just because you landed him doesn’t mean you can eat whatever you want and stop going to the gym (and to be fair, neither can he).

9. Withholding Sex Is A Dangerous Game

I don’t care how mad you are at him, if you cut him off for an extended period of time, what happens next is on you.

18. If You’ve Been Living Together For Longer Than Three Years, He’s Not Going To Marry You

At that point, he already considers himself married, and the idea of a wedding is more of a hassle than the special day it is to you. You can try to force him into it if you want, but…

19. Ultimatums Do NOT Work

Any time you try to force a guy to do anything, he WILL resent you for it. Try an honest talk about how you feel and what you want out of the relationship before you give him an “either/or.”

I agree with almost everything on there, reverse the recommendations and they all become red flags.

This one is wishful thinking though. There's a reason men made mix tapes as gifts for women, and not the other way around.
Quote:Quote:

26. He Wants You To Expose Him To New Things

He wants to feel like you’re bringing something extra into his life, so tell him about your favorite authors, philosophers, whatever. If you help him grow as a person, he’ll always be grateful to you for it.

Good exchange from the comments:

Whatever about the rampant hamsterisation, it's the WK'ing that's the most sickening. 'Cos you know well these "I'm embarassed to call myself a man types" are jerking off to the same shit we all are with the same kind of thoughts, and are eye-fucking every chick within that comes within eyeshot, no different to me, you or anyone other straight man with a dick.

So many tantrums in the comments section. So. Many. Tantrums.

For purely academic purposes, I wish I was able to flip a switch and turn off my awareness so I could document the experience of being a man without clue as he peruses the responses of women to an article like this.

For anybody that might miss it otherwise as it only dropped on the comment board a couple hours ago, this chick has got to be one of the most bitter whores I've ever seen on the Internet. It's hilarious that she could only actually muster up 8.

Quote:Quote:

lol, Whoever wrote this sounds like a DOUCHEBAG who can't be more than 25. Anyway. Let's flip this 180 ladies and write one RIGHT BACK AT HIM:

50 Things Every Man Should Realize About Women

1) We aren't your sex object: Yeah, we get your crazy perverted mind is filled with porn, or has been until you met US, but meet me, your princess. You will from now on appreciate having me, see me for more than just your twisted bedroom fantasies and you will learn what real life means, not just a sequel to your pornographic fantasies. Button up your collar, wipe the counter if you make crumbs on it, and change your damn underwear once a day.

2) We aren't your maid: In careers, men like to say "everything you can do I can do better". Alright brawny man, suit up and by that I mean, change your business clothes, roll up your sleeves, and scrub those dishes because momma had a long day and it's your turn to take out the trash

3) We don't care if you like anal, we like Darcy from Pride and Prejudice: First of all, if you like it up the ass, you're probably gay, so go explore that avenue and come back to me when you're sure you aren't. All that romantic stuff and fairy tales we read as children when our princes rescues us on a white horse STILL applies. If you're going to come to the date shabby, so back to your bong in your dumpy apartment, college boy.

4) We want children too, but they are TOUGH: Having kids is tough. Men are crazy and they think, bam, I turned 30, it's time to knock her up. Um, NO. If your finances aren't in check, if you still treat your mother like she's your only queen and if you think raising small children is easy, you are in for a WILD RIDE MY FRIEND. You don't like when I whine/nag to you to pick up your clothes off the floor? Try having a 2 year old who whines if you put her socks on wrong, or when your face is nose deep in the smelliest poop when diaper changing and wiggles on the changing table, MAD at your for changing her poop and you just feel like the most worthless person in the world, THAT is what having children is like. Sure, when they are old enough to say I Love You, it's cute, but guess what papa bear, that is after two years of slavery to raise your bonnie blue baby. Of course you love them, it was the hardest unfathomable thing you've ever done!

5) I have eyes too: You want to screw my friends? First of all, you're a pig and shouldn't think like that, second of all, I have eyes too and I'm sure at least one of your friends is hot too. If you don't think I have eyes, you're crazy. Here's the rule, I won't look if you won't. If you want to be single, the door is RIGHT THERE

6) Watch my weight after I have your babies? I'll watch my weight when you watch these kids: Listen dude, I might have been slammin hot when you met me, and I can guarantee at any age or 10 pounds plus or minus, there will always be a man out there that will treat me like a princess and I guarantee if you're a jerk I will find him and have him put you to shame, but aside from that, the focus shouldn't be on weight, it should be on health. If a woman has a baby, her body goes through all these changes. Also, do you know how hard it is to be hot and NOT hit on? Us women like our momma image because, yeah, knowing you're attractive is great when you're an insecure teenager, but by the time you're a woman, you know you're worth and you can go from not to hot in 10 seconds: it's called style and makeup and I will whip out hot momma if you make me and I guarantee you will have to fight off the crowds of admirers. Oh, and because we're married I am trying not to attract wandering eye man whores to me, but if marriage means nothing to you, don't test me, I am your wife and you should know our story, how we got there and the support we need to give each other throughout everything.

7) 3-somes? How about take my a$$ to Hawaii: If you are dating me, you should want to marry me or what the hell am I wasting my time? You have time to think about 3 somes when you should be proving to me why you are husband material? Hold the damn door, ask me if I like this sparkly dress, buy it and take me on a date fool

8) You like when I'm the boss. I put you through hell when I teach you to respect me unlike your other whorey girlfriends which you screwed then dumped, but that's exactly when you dumped them. They were hot, they were skanky, they were nice, they....blew you while watching chickflicks (wtf the author of the above post is such a douche lol) but who do you really want? I nice lady who hold it down in your home who definitely looks stylin' on date night. You want someone decent and classy like your mother. So STFU and button that collar, darling.

The more I think about it I'm not even sure if this is serious. There can't be somebody out there that delusional? Referring to themselves as 'momma' in the third person? I just can't.

So I take it I'm the only one who thinks a lot of these are kinda gay? These "50 Things..." paint a picture that makes men look sensitive, insecure, and dependent/codependent. Granted... a lot of men in our culture are. A number of these are very legitimate, but I feel like most of them are more like "Tips For Accommodating A Beta's Fragile Ego" or something along those lines. Hell, a few of these are just flatout wrong.

Could easily be chopped down to a "10 things..." I'm sure.

^ Was just about to post that. All I need is 3 things:

1) Take care of your body
2) Be nice to me
3) Don't talk to / flirt with / have sex with other guys

Anything else is just extra.

True and false depending on the context. People get comfortable and lazy when they have been in a relationship long enough so it is nice to see some sort of benchmark. Not all of the list may apply to every person though. For instance, I do not need compliments or ego boosts. I work hard at everything that I do so I know I'm good at things and at my attractiveness ceiling.

One thing I will point out is #35. When you are a superior human to your partner (more talented and deep) and they know it then she will occasionally emasculate you to make her self worth feel higher. If you work very hard on improving yourself you will always be in this situation (because let's face it, we are less than 1% of the male population) so you have to let some of it slide. Pick your battles wisely.

32 is the only one I don't agree with. Other than that, all of these are expected out of LTRs.

Edit: Clarification: by LTR I mean if this was a fantasy land where things weren't so bad.
