Why he said writing this book turned him into a feminist

http://learningleader.com/episode-044-jo...ffend-you/

For your convenience he mentions this at the 1:00:15 mark.

*First he says the 70c/$1 meme is bullshit. If it were true then CEOs would hire women exclusively, just as jobs are outsourced to cheaper Asian labour.

*Then he reflects on how women were treated in his workplace.

*Hiring women was referred to the "office beautification project"

*Mentions getting a newbie to interview all the guys in the office on ranking the bangability of the girls in the office, and make a powerpoint presentation.

So all in all, when he says he's become "a little bit of a" feminist, I don't think he means the militant kill-all-men self-loathing omega type, just that he has come from a position of being able to see women treated like shit and then feeling guilt after the fact.

For the record, I have read the book and think it's a very interesting collection of short stories.

It's a great book if you like and appreciate the hedonistic lifestyles portrayed.

NYTimes DealBook: The Author Behind @GSElevator Has Lost His Book Deal.

Quote:Quote:

John Lefevre, the man behind the @GSElevator Twitter account, who purported to post dialogue overheard in the elevators of Goldman Sachs but never actually worked there, has lost his book deal after his true identity came to light.

Mr. Lefevre had gained a measure of Internet fame with his Twitter account, parlaying that success into a book deal — all while remaining anonymous.

Now, the publisher, Touchstone, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, which said earlier that it stood by Mr. Lefevre when his identity was revealed, announced on Thursday that it would cancel the agreement to publish the book, “Straight to Hell: True Tales of Deviance and Excess in the World of Investment Banking.”

“In light of information that has recently come to our attention since acquiring John Lefevre’s ‘Straight to Hell,’ Touchstone has decided to cancel its publication of this work,” the publisher said in a brief statement.

Though it once appeared that the person behind the Twitter account had a connection to Goldman, Mr. Lefevre does not work at the Wall Street bank and never did, DealBook’s Andrew Ross Sorkin reported last month. He worked for Citigroup for seven years and in 2010 was offered a job as head of debt syndicate in Asia at Goldman’s Hong Kong office, but the offer was later revoked.

At the time, the publisher said it had not been misled. “He’s been pretty straight with us the entire time, so this is not a surprise,” the book’s editor, Matthew Benjamin, said then. Touchstone said that it planned to proceed with publication.

Still, Mr. Lefevre did nothing to dispel the false impression that he was an employee of the firm. In 2011, around the time he started tweeting, he apparently told DealBook via email that he was a Goldman employee.

Business Insider reported earlier on Thursday that his book deal was no more.

Goldman did have a sense of humor about the whole episode:

Two good quotes from the Straight To Hell book.

Quote:Quote:

Britain is a country that, since World War II, has been on a managed decline. The men live vicariously through their favorite soccer team, celebrating its success with "a few pints" and commiserating over its failings with "a few pints." And the women - walking muffin tops. Yet they stride around with a terribly misplaced sense of entitlement.

... I generally try to work my way back to the hotel for a civilized nightcap before 3 A.M., when we can sit back in the lobby bar and watch the whores on parade as they escort the drunken businessmen back up to their rooms. I don't think there is anything in this world quite as brazenly entrepreneurial as a prostitute soliciting me in the corridor of a hotel, just s she's leaving some guy's room and I'm staggering toward mine. I know a few guys who have made that trade, but the "hot pocket" isn't my thing.
