I just spent a weekend in Charleston (first time there) and will add my two cents.
OP was right...I had a great time and I think it would be a worthwhile trip for most of the guys on this board, especially given that its relatively cheap and pretty accessible. It's a really cool spot with a laid-back atmosphere that combined your typical beach town with some Southern charm. And most of the people seemed to just want to party and hang out. I could see myself living in a place like Charleston.
I wholeheartedly agree with the OP, there are a ton of girls there. I'd say most of the night spots we went to were 3:2 or even 2:1 girls. They weren't the hottest girls I've seen in the US, but certainly a sizable selection of girls in the 7-8 range and they were generally very approachable.
My crew and I stayed at a house in Folly Beach. This was good and bad. It was good because Folly Beach is super chill. Even being early Spring and the water still being a little too cold for most, on Saturday afternoon the beach had a nice crowd. Even better, all the bars and restaurants in the little Folly Beach town area were pretty crowded all afternoon long with people just drinking beers and wasting away a nice afternoon. Tons of day gaming opportunities here. I snagged a couple of phone numbers but couldn't meet up later and that brings me to the downside of Folly Beach...it is probably 20-30 minutes taxi to Charleston, where most of the night life is. So we went out in Charleston and I couldn't arrange meetups with the girls I had number closed, who were staying in or near Folly Beach. I think that if it were the summer and you were staying in Folly, this wouldn't even be an issue because multiple waiters and waitresses said that the bars there pick up in the summer when people are going to the beach and even this time of the year, they had decent potential.
That being said, its not impossible to work the Charleston-Folly logistics. While we were in Charleston at some bar on Market Street (I can't remember the name but there are a few and they all looked pretty good so I think you can't really miss there), I approached a 5 girl bachelorette party and they hooked on us pretty fast; this was my boy's bachelor party so it was a natural fit. They were staying nearby in Charleston but we managed to snag a huge van outside and convince them to come all the way back to Folly Beach with us. The ensuing late night was pretty crazy and I was going at it with the bachelorette (which didn't do much to alleviate my post-Brazil withdrawal/restore my faith in character of the American woman ) when one of her friends discovered us, freaked out, and called a cab for them all to get out of there. As if she didn't know her friend was a ho-bag prior to that. Please.
Anyways, Charleston is good times. I'm betting Folly Beach in the summer is golden.
A few other random pieces of advice:
California Dreaming Restaurant: The food was mediocre, or at least the sirloing I had. Appetizers were all pretty good though. BUT, the redemption was $2 cocktails all night. This was a Friday, not sure if that's everyday.
Midtown Bar: I don't remember what street this was on, but it had the best ratio and the hottest girls of any of the places we went to. I'd say Wet Willies and Trio are the runner-ups. Both worth checking out. I think all of these are in the same part of Charleston. Good bar-hopping to be had.
Strip Clubs: There are a couple and they are BYOB, which makes for a great place to get bombed with a group of friends either before or after hitting up the nearby bar scene. But beware $20 cover at the one I went to. I am terrible with names and locations.
