I have seen this recently, guys I know who have women that would most likely be considered by the guys here as being in the 5-6 category.

One guy in particular, married to a black woman, she would not make it into Athlone's black hotness list. But, she is perfect for him in just the way he needs. He works in a very conservative field, and he has the perfect conservative black (Caribbean born) wife, well known in their community: exceptional home training, active in their church, a great hostess (and real classy dresser) who makes an excellent appearance at the social events, especially when she hosts them at their house and invites their friends and his colleagues. She builds up his reputation in the community, and other guys see the good life he is living with her. Now, this dude had all sorts of white women chasing him down, but he wasn't interested.

Now with respect to Petraeus and Edwards, their wives looked much better when they were younger. Petraeus married his wife when she was in her early 20s, back in the early 70s, and Edwards did something similar, marrying Elizabeth back in the mid 70s. The women looked nothing in middle age as they looked when they were younger.

Petraeus, if you check the web you will see it--his graduation photo from West Point. The same regarding Edwards, his wedding picture, and others of Elizabeth Edwards when she was younger. As for Christie's wife, the one thing she has going for her is that she is not obese like he is.

I'm encouraged by the extremely small number of examples of high-status men dating down that people have found. These examples appear to be limited to guys who are (1) a lot older and have stayed with the mother of their children (Brosnan and Lopez), (2) gay (Jackman and maybe Lowe), (3) or mentally damaged (Lennon and Lowe).

In defense of men like Brosnan, I don't see any shame in their decision not to leave a wife that is the mother of their children, and to whom they made a lifelong commitment. The test for whether Brosnan really dated down is whether she was in his league at the time he married her. His now-obese wife passes that test. At the time of their marriage, she was a smoking dime piece. We can't realistically expect every guy to dump his wife when she gets fat if he built a life and a family with her. There's something to be said for keeping a commitment, even if it is a significant personal cost. Virtually any commitment worth making entails some sort of downside risk.

I am extremely encouraged by what I have seen in this thread.

I think there is a number of reasons why it does occur, a few already mentioned.

1. It's quaint, but sometimes you do find a life parter. We know the wall is usually much crueler for women, so you may see guys that are still attractive with ugly old hags who were hot and tight in their prime.

Of course, pre-feminism these lifetime bonds were more common.

2. Some of these guys probably had top-shelf pussy thrown their way since they were 15, and are not as impressed with it as us normal guys are. They just want someone they can get along with without too much effort. They might get some strange on the side to satisfy an itch though.

I can explain it.

At least in my experience, I bet a lot of these guys during their teens weren't very good looking yet we're attracted to the dime pieces of their teenage lives.

Undoubtedly, they got no attention and we're probably treated badly. Rejection sucks, but the type of rejection a high school omega gets sucks. It's super embarrassing and not to mention cruel.

So, they huddle up with what they can get. The girls aren't particularly attractive, but they're nice and fun to be around.

Fast forward to their 20s or 30s, the same men unaware of their stupid high SMV have beta charming game, money, and good looks. These men still see themselves as low value men. So when an aggressive women comes up and makes her intentions known he saddle up to her. Again, she may be not so attractive, but she's a good trust worthy companion who won't up and leave (hyper gamy on her part).

I know, because I struggle with this all of the time. I can objectively look at myself in the mirror, tell myself I am the man, and day game got chicks. Bit sometimes I hesitate to approach the dime because I still remember in 7 grade getting torn apart. It's a battle, but still something I have to work to overcome.

In this case of Alphas getting ugly chicks. They most likely met them when they were young and still with a low SMV. These men unaware of the market double down and don't realize the potential the have. Hence this phenomena of rich guys and infidelity. The ones who get caught discovered at the truth about where they fall in the world and realistically so took advantage of it. I know I would.

In short, don't get married young. The number 1 lesson I learned on this forum. Wait until you peak at 35, snag up a young broad. Simple.

We should also make allowance for the fact that in Europe is acceptable to have a mistress. Even if your wife becomes a land whale, in some parts of Europe nobody will care if you're screwing around with a bunch of young girls. In addition to what has been said, that they do this to appear like an 'everyman', I think a lot of these guys are shamed into it, so to speak.

As has been stated on this site, in our feminized culture it's basically unacceptable to have any physical standards when it comes to women. I think these guys get introduced to these women, don't want to feel guilty about turning them down because they're fugly, decide that they've had enough quality poon in their life, and decide to just settle for someone who will take care of them and not be high maintenance.

I agree with what you are saying, just want to emphasize the bold.

I've had a few moments in my life where I've gone on a tear with women I'm sexually attracted to. At a few of my weaker moments, I've allowed female friends to set me up with their unattractive/unfeminine friends and been shamed into thinking "I've had a good run, I guess I don't have to be attracted to them, maybe I should giver her a chance"…before snapping out of it and saying to myself "screw that, I'm only going to get married to someone who I am sexually attracted to, has a feminine demeanor and lets me be a man". I think some guys don't reach that second point.
