Dominican Republic for the New Year

+1 for both me and Grasshopper first night in DR.

Pulled 2 girls back from a bar.

My girl was a bit crazy, she got very drunk and she was gonna pass out on my couch(her friend was a bartender at the bar we were at, so she was going HAM with the free drinks).

After half a hour and some water though she sobered up a little and then jumped me.

Props to Grasshopper, his spanish came in handy since I could barely speak to my girl. He set up the pull.

My girl was a very cute black girl.

Note- From the day I"ve been here it seems like all the talk about pros and semi pros is overblown at least for us. Lots of friendly and receptive middle and upper class girls.

Okay, got 2nd notch here last night, another one from Tagged. One more day left before we headout.

We had planned to go day game and do some interviews at el conde around 6:30pm, but JCall ends up ditching me in the hotel lobby to go meetup with his girl, and they just go straight back to the room to cut.

I don't speak any Spanish, and they were going to be my translators in el conde. I just wait in the lobby and run some Tagged game with the help of Google translate.

I get a girl to come over at 10:30pm. I kick JCall and his girl out of the room, they've had over 4 hours and are just spooning now. His girl isn't happy, but I don't care, not losing another lay.

I tell her to have the receptionist just buzz her up to the room, they call and tell me she has no ID, so I have to go down and "sponsor" her to come up, which just meant telling them she was a "friend" and I "knew" her...lol waste of time.

I take her straight back to the room, tell her I don't speak Spanish, and she is surprised and can't stop laughing. I never told her that during our convos on Tagged.

She pours some orange juice in two glasses, I add in some vodka and she laughs. I run the usual routine now, pull up Spotify and play some "romeo" music and start dancing with her and makeout in less than 5 minutes in the room.

There wasn't any resistance at all with this girl. Her fancy nails where too long to type properly, so this time I only used my Google translator app as a one-way translation, which worked wonders. Anytime something came up, I just said "no comprendre," she would laugh, and we would just proceed.

Man, this girl was a freak. I lay on the bed, get her on top of me, popped her titties out, and she gives me a BJ, not as good as the first girl, but this girl was putting in a lot of effort in pleasing your boy. She's eating and licking my ear out, then out of nowhere she starts tossing my salad, which I've never tried before, and that knocked my socks off.

We fuck 5 times, and I send her home in a taxi. She wants to go shopping tomorrow, not happening, likely will flake on her.

how much does it cost to spend a month there? 2 grand?

1500 for a month should do it.

Break this down, Just the cab from the airport to Hotel razor(sp) was like 40 bucks USD back in January. Mind you, I ain't no DR newie, I speak fluent Spanish and have been traveling to the DR ever since 3rd Bass dropped "The Catus Album." I find the D maybe not as expensive as Costa Rica or Brazil but it is no Bolivia.

$1500 per month in SD is ghetto living. Straight up. The most affordable 'safe' apartment I found in the capitol was in Bella Vista @$600 per month for 3 months leases. You still have to play the 2+1 game, so that's $1800 just to get a key. All the apartments I looked at in ZC weren't secure. Go to the barrio's and it'll get worse with security.

The gringo tax is heavy in the touristy areas too, and those 10p here and there add up quick. It takes time to find the honest colmado owners, and might mean walking a few blocks more.

Santiago is cheaper and easier to find honesty and secure apartments, but you won't have the options of playing the field like SD. The former is better to build a harem, and slow leak girls in and out of it. In SD, I was quick building them, then wiping the slate clean during meltdown mode, then building up again.

So it comes down to really to me player style.

Santo Domingo=Better for short term.
Santiago=Better long term.

I'm stacking up websites, job postings, and contacts right now to try and return offshore. If so, I'll be in Santiago every other month, with a pimp pad and SUV. Fuck the capitol. I can't behave there anyways. And fuck them 2x for not having a beach.

Nice breakdown Ali. I think to live comfortably in DR one needs at least $2k/mo in inner city or on the coast, and about $2.5K/mo in Santo Domingo - obviously depending on transportation requirements, restaurants vs cooking etc. All those taxis in SD add up quickly.

Room in shared apartment in decent area= $300 /month
Groceries = $300/month
Gua Guas and taxis = $150/month if you aren't paying for girls' taxis every day. And aren't taking taxis yourself everyday. I live in Gazcue and spend 50 pesos or $1.25 round trip on gua guas (buses) to go to the colonial zone. I could walk/jog there in about 40/20 minutes if I wanted to. When school is back in January I will just walk 2 blocks to the colmados where the students hang out.

Leaves $250 a month for clothes, medical, drinking out, etc.
Obviously you will need extra for emergencies, traveling, etc.
But you can live a pretty good life here for $1,000 a month. Not really playboy, but if you date low maintenance girls... $1500 is definitely better. But I have been alright on $1,000 a month (my actual budget).

It would take a foreigner forever to figure out the public trans throughout SD. Even around the colleges, the Malecon, and everything that side of the big road. Figuring out how to get around from side to side of the highway would be a bitch, as you gotta switch from buses, to publico's, to gua gua's or whatever. I studied that shit and gave up. Plus you run in un A/C vehicles and are wiped out and feel like shit ever before hitting the Blue Mall or Acropolis. Traffic is shit in the capitol anyways, and stress levels would go through the roof driving daily.

Getting around in Santiago proper wasn't bad in public trans, but to do it right you need a vehicle, as I felt nightlife was limited, and one needs to branch out to other areas. My goal even with vehicle was to keep it <$2K in Santiago, and if it's gonna go above that, I need to reconsider going there on the regular.

The DR is cool, but it ain't that cool.

$2K with a vehicle is doable in Santiago. Minimum $150/mo just gas though, double that if you drive to SD or the coast every weekend. The most important thing is to cut down on your tipping budget.

Exactly

2500 dollars a month to live in DR? That's 106000 pesos, this is literally a baller's life in DR.

What are you going to do with this money every month? Unless you were buying a bunch of clothes every month and spending a lot of money in buying alcohol, there is no way that you will need 2500 dollars a month to live in this country.

1500 dollars should be a decent amount to live over here. And I don't trip over pennies, when I feel like buying something, I buy it. I probably only went above 1500 dollars one month since I have been here and that month, I bought a lot of expensive clothes but on average I spend a bit less than 1500 dollars a month.

Then again we are all different.

Yeah, been crunching numbers for the last week. Shooting down to the DR every other month is doable, but I'd have to watch big baller status.

New Orleans to SD=$600+ (via Miami)
New Orleans to Santiago=$600+ (via NYC) WTF?

Quicker to the capitol, but then I have to factor in cabs from airport to the Metro, then another round trip on it and 3+ more hours travel time. So a minimum of $700 every other month to just get there. That takes a chunk out of a $2-2.5K budget for a net of probably 26 days. [Image: confused.gif]

True, but the money is good offshore right now. 1/2 the labor force is expected to retire soon. "The Big Shift Change". Making $500 daily isn't too hard out there right now. Just saw one company payin' $400K+ for an experienced DD. Plus that month offshore is free on the living expenses, so you can actually average out what is spent in the DR.

I would say the average guy coming to the dr is going to spend $500 month on rent , $100 week food/living expenses, $100 week girlsdrinking/partying so you are looking at $1,300 month average.

What is comfortable living for one is ghetto living for another, - $1,000/mo is pure survival budget to most people. It means no car/taxis, eating platos del dia/cheapest crap all the time, buying the cheapest alcohol, living in a crap building where power/water goes out 4 hours a day etc. A friend of mine lives in Cabarete on probably $500/mo, if that. He was in Santiago for a day and we went to an average priced bar which also serves food. He looked at the menu and said, "What, no plato del dia? Can we find a comedor?" - that's at 10pm on a Friday night. He wanted to fill up for 100 ($2.5 USD) pesos and was willing to spend time looking around for a pile of greasy rice instead of dropping 400-500 pesos in a decent place. So I took him to a street kiosk where he ate a sandwich for 150 pesos and was still grumbling about the lack of rice. Then I took him to a shitty hotel for 400 pesos per night, he called up a barrio rat he had been chatting with for a while but never actually met yet at that point and banged the shit out of her the whole night. Took a bus back to Cabarete the next day with another chica. He also has 2 regulars there, and banged every ugly barrio rat on the north coast there is, during the 5-7 years he's been living there. He is very comfortable, but 95% of guys wouldn't be able to do it.

My budget includes roughly $300-400 on drinks, $200 on gas, $200 on groceries, $300 on restaurants. The rest is rent, water, power, cell phone, internet, cable, gym, car maintenance, emergencies (like $300 in medical expenses when I walked into a glass door once, like another $300 to get out jail another time - long story). It's DR, weird shit happens when you least expect it, and usually translates into money.

We have a large 3 bedroom Apartment in a Superb location in Gazcue (santo Domingo) near zona colonial, universities, subway station, and across from the modern art museum, nacional theater, and art cinema center (which is in a large park).

Rent is $750 a month. There is a 4th bedroom which is tiny but has its own toilet and shower (servants quarters). We are renting that for around $150 a month to a dominican businessman. So are nut for each bedroom is $200. One of the bedrooms has its own bath with Large Jacuzzi tub (3-4 people).

Our last electric bill was about $40. We do not have power outages. We have reliable internet for under $50 a month. Our water is sometimes shut off because the water is delivered on a giant truck to the building (no city water). However, its on in the mornings and evenings. If you need water at other times you just send a text to the guard and he will turn it on promptly (usually).

Girls come in and usually say "large place" or "nice place". So for under $300 a month I have a large bedroom in a great location without serious utility problems. I eat very well for cheap, but that's because I cook at home most of the time. There is cheap food around though. There is a chinese restaurant near the university where I can get a large plate of stir fry veggies with a little chicken for 100 pesos ($2.50). I can get a smoothie nearby for 50 pesos ($1.25). Groceries in the store are about US prices for most things (cereal and other crap can cost a little more depending on where you buy it. Potato chips are expensive everywhere)

If I had a steady girl and wasn't paying for taxis a lot I could get by on probably 700-800 a month. If I just dated students who are already in the neighborhood every day that would work too (project in process).

By the way, all you peeps in SD, come my for the meetup today 3-4 (see above)

I think that's a HUGE thing to point out for guys heading down for their first time. That's 1 step below trailer park living here. The quality/quality of pussy will be very limited on that budget.

For me, when going to a 3rd world country, I expect to better quality of life due to the dollar going farther. In the Santo Domingo, you really don't get that.

Some of the cheap Dominican comedors are filthy. The Chinese ones are worse. Unsanitary and you'll get a free side of diarrhea with every meal, maybe cholera. Eating a plata del dia once a day is ok, but you get a ton of rice, which is unhealthy. Same as the nasty greasy fried chicken from the Chinese places. And those costs will double when you have a girl. Cooking in your apartment give you about 30% more food down there. I did the math.

A $1K budget doesn't include A/C in the apartment, or cabs, which charge more for it. Or Jumbo's @110p each. Or much smoking. Or casinos, or Barcelo, or really anything else. And go ahead and walk 40 minutes to Zona Colonial and see how you feel to day game. I once hoofed it from the Bella Vista Mall to the Laragua casino, and was worse for wear. You have to take trans due to the heat.

I've lived better in the states off unemployment, with much less headaches. Again, plan on $2500 minimum for a little quality of life and better poon.

edit- 1K budget means almost NO CABANA SEX! Boo!!!!!

I think no one is really wrong here in the budget and scenario assessment....in DR.
If you come on short time bases and for the first time and want to have fun ...prepare to spend $2500+ / month just like Ali says.
This also depends how much you like to go out and/or drink etc.....
Knowing someone, having friend who already has some sort of a setup or lives there helps a lot.....as you do not have to pay the "stupid gringo" fees....and may have already arranged accommodation, speaks fluent spanish and knows the ways.....and more important saves you time discovering all the shit by yourself....
If you stay on longer term or you live there you will eventually get some sort of economic setup that suits you...and with time pay less gringo tax.
This logic applies to most places. It is very good that you guys are getting together - this is where the forum pays some dividends rather then just useless time spend on line.

Ended up with two more bangs last night, back-to-back. Last girl ended up causing drama, which killed my vibe. I've brushed it off now, and overall, I was pleased with my experience in DR.

JCall and I are going to drop a video data sheet in a few days on my blog.

Let me put it this way:

Housing = cheaper than the US (maybe 40 - 50% cheaper on average)

Electricity = higher than the US (my rate in Bavaro was 3x Atlanta. So, yes, you will pay for that AC)

Gas = $6.00 a gallon (another reason I don't have a car)

Gua Gua or subway ride once way = 50 cents.
Bus travel between major cities = $10

Food = 75% - 200% of US prices (name brand US shit being the 200%. Cheap restaurants and veg/fruit being the 75%
Toiletries, clothes, computer parts, etc = averages US prices

Alcohol = about US prices but I'm not an expert. Sometimes drink specials can be great (happy hours in cabarete 3 mixed drinks for $3.00 in one place)

As you can see, you won't really save that much money by living here. Unless you live in El Campo or some of the outlying areas or barrios of Santo Domingo.

Girls here are impressed/satisfied with far less. my friend jokes about how a lot of his girls are quite happy with a date to McDonald's. Usually you can skip the eating out altogether and let them cook for you.

Let's say you want top tier girls. Well yes some of them are looking for a guy with a car, money, etc. But a lot of those girls come from middle or upper class families and are therefore more looking for good game, or even just interesting conversation. I admit, things would be a lot easier with a car. But some of these girls have their own car...

I would love to have $2500 a month. But $1,000 is enough most of the time to be satisfied. I spend almost nothing on alcohol though. I don't really drink. I study spanish, paint, compose music, learn programming, etc in my spare time, which costs nothing.

Hey that's alright. You're new to the game. Even though DR girls are generally friendly and somewhat easy, there are lots of little subtle mistakes that can happen.

Well I just got in from cruising Colonial zone and the malecon (water front). Apparently that is NOT where the hot single girls are for NYE. There were outdoor concerts in both places. And I swear out of the hundreds or even thousands of people I passed, I hardly saw a single set worth approaching. It was like a nightmare. I have never seen so many ugly, fat, or underage girls in my 8 months in this country. [Image: fatter.gif] Where the FUCK were the girls? I guess at the clubs and private parties. We did hit up Onno's as a 6 set walked out. We gamed them a while and got a number from a hotty. But inside Onno's was almost completely empty at midnight!!!

Can't wait to hear a NYE report from 20Nation, THC, and Fisto. Me and Caribbean Soul dropped off TorontoKid to be babysitted by them at club Jetset. Me and Caribean Soul then hit up the Malecon before calling it a night.
