Looks like there may be at least one injury.

Quote:Quote:

(CNN) – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting on Capitol Hill, CNN's Dana Bash reports.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has dispatched units to the Capitol, following reports of shots fired near Garfield Circle, which is on the west front of the Capitol Building.

An order was given over the Capitol speaker system to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation.

Capitol Police sent out the following advisory to staffers:

"SHELTER IN PLACE. Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place. Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows. Take annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods; and move to the innermost part of the office away from external doors or windows. If you are not in your office, take shelter in the nearest office, check in with your OEC and wait for USCP to clear the incident. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP. All staff should monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available."

The House and Senate went into recess after the shooting.

Any chance you could elaborate - maybe even in a new thread? I am always interested in learning different perspectives. For me, I don't think we can escape all of our dumb financial behavior at some point we have to pay the piper.

OK.

Obamacare = a nation of part time employees

Banks = Will not give loans and getting a mortgage is almost impossible. They are slowly releasing foreclosed homes to keep the price artificially high, investors have been buying them and renting them out. The market will crash and rent will drop as renters who work part time will not be able to afford it.

Flood zones = fucked, Insurance is not subsidized anymore by FEMA people here are getting 20k a year quotes, banks will foreclose if you don't pay your forced place insurance. FEMA just re vamped flood maps. Investors will buy those homes and more rentals.

GOV = will go broke and stop backing mortgages.

Save your cash and hide it.

My family has land that can be tilled that butts up next to The Land of the Forgotten. When shit hits the fan we'll converge on it and at least stay fed and safe. It's depressing that we even had to have this conversation in the last few years.

No use in putting money in the banks here or abroad, as the guv will be making runs on it as they see fit. Not trying to be the doom and gloom guy, but I believe now we really are past the point of no return. Unless CNN says we're ok, then I'll feel better.

I wish it was crazy. I follow economics and finance a lot. We are already above 100% debt to GDP ratio, and economists for decades have agreed that once you pass this threshold your country can never recover. We are seeing that play out in Europe right now.

And that isn't taking into account the 90 some trillion in unfunded liabilities headed our way, the retirement of the baby boomers, and the interest payments that will eventually balloon.

Economically we are in trouble. To be honest after Bush we were at a point that we needed someone on the ball, and instead we got a guy who made all the same mistakes Bush made economically, except on a larger scale.

So, apparently the shooter was a woman, with a kid in her backseat. She was fatally shot by police.

Well, GameTheory, of course I was being facetious in an attempt to use the Socratic method to get Tuth or anyone else around here to expand on that thought.

Let's get down to brass tacks, shall we?

First up, we have Ronald Reagan saying Government is the problem, over 30 years ago.

But Tuth said, "non-stop." Who else has been saying this non-stop?

Other than Ron Paul, their has not been a single politician that has been pointing to Government as the problem. But that's really besides the point. I get that Tuth was being hyperbolic.

We must also remember that Reagan was absolutely correct. Problem was, he was telling us the truth based on his very own actions.

Reagan signed off on the first no-fault Divorce laws in the nation when he was Governor. That particular Government problem has metastasized and engulfed the entire country today. Thanks Ronnie Ray-Gun!

He also expanded the power and scope of the military-industrial complex in the Government like no other President before.

Yes, Government is the problem, and Reagan demonstrated that unequivocally by his actions as both Governor of CA and President of the US.

Let's not forget that Reagan sold America's manufacturing industry to China.

At first I thought it was Boehmer or Ted Cruz going on a shooting spree. People blame their failures on others, including the government. It's easy to complain to a non-living thing.

I'm sorry, the reason we got in this mess can be directly tied to three decades of Reaganomics policies. Slashing revenue by cutting taxes for extremely wealthy people while sending us into wars paid for with debt.

I don't know about the rest but the flood zones part is true. I know of a business connected to coastal insurance and they've said the same thing. Coastal and flood plain quotes are crazy.

It makes an interesting situation, the land will be too expensive for residential but would have great soil for growing things. If I had cash to invest I'd buy it for recreation land and farming.

Try a century of Inflation and perpetual debt rooted in the establishment of the Federal Reserve Banking system in 1913.

Ever since then, whether a Republicon "slashed revenue by cutting taxes on the rich" or a Demonrat "raised revenue by raising taxes on the rich," the Government has spent more than it took in by going into further debt.

^^^ Speakeasy calm down. No one is saying anything bad about Obama. He's turning this mess around, and he stays in office for another 40 years, and no matter how long it takes, we can always blame other presidents.

I'm sorry, the reason we got in this mess can be directly tied to three decades of Reaganomics policies. Slashing revenue by cutting taxes for extremely wealthy people while sending us into wars paid for with debt.

The deficit is a year-to-year number that tracks how much more the government spends than it takes in in revenue. The deficit isn't the problem. The stock of outstanding debt is the problem and that is still growing. After 2009, with that giant stimulus bill, it would be almost impossible for the deficit not to fall, but that doesn't mean that the deficit is small, just that it was a lot larger. Saying the deficit is getting smaller is just saying that we are drowning at a slightly slower rate.

The problem is this: people want a lot of goodies from the government, but they don't want to pay for them. So, you get two parties, one party that wars to give goodies and raise taxes to pay for them. Another party that pretends not to like goodies (of course they really do) and keeps taxes low. Put those things together and you have a dysfunctional system. h

You can have a country where the government takes more than half your salary and gives you lots of shit. Or you can har a country where you keep almost all of your salary and the government sticks to providing basic public services. Most Americans haven't figured this out yet, because there's always some politician there to tell them that they can have their cake and eat it too and pass the blame in to some scapegoat. Democrats blame the rich. Republicans blame brown people. The truth is that we are all to blame, because we buy into this bullshit instead of acting like adults.

Thank you, I was going to reply the same and add in an LOL for using a feminist to back an argument on this board.

Having ANY deficit right now is bad. Our debt to GDP is out of control. Obama's deficits have been outrageous and now finally we will have an Obama budget deficit that isn't a trillion dollars and we are supposed to act like we have been saved.

Not to forget the lowering of the deficit was accomplished by raising taxes, which is not a sustainable long term solution. It is already playing out that the middle class is being squeezed by these increases as full time jobs disappear and house hold income has still not recovered to 2007 levels.

And we still have the unfunded future liabilities and the baby boomer bust to go through.

The worst is yet to come economically and we can see this being played out in other countries who spent too much for too long.
