I'm on the lookout for an ultrabook with an i7 quadcore and 8 gigs of ram. it's hard to find a quad core on any of these ultra books.

Just wait for the Yoga 2 then. It looks amazing. 3200 x 1800 resolution is absolutely ridiculous. That's the closest to 4K you'll get for a long time.

It's coming out in October. Well worth the wait.
Thanks for chiming in, champ.
First off, I can't wait till Oct. I'm in the US now, and need it before I go back to Europe (30th sept) where prices are substantially higher.
2, I'd rather go below 800 than above, 800 is abolute maximum unfortunately. The Asus I was looking at looked like it could be had for USD550.

OK, so I'm a dork and I went ahead and got the Lenovo Yoga because I cannot deal with sales people.
Got it refurbished for USD770 (incl tax), but software (MS Office and antivirus whatnot) and warranties drove that up to 1100. Da fuq?
Am thinking perhaps I ought to return the antivirus and warranties - they cost combined USD220 (ex tax)

1100 for Lenovo? Ship it back and get an Mba or Mbp for about the same if not lower! No need to buy anti virus for a Mac!

Another virus for me this morning on my Lenovo. Msn is stuck on my screen. These things are all junk. I'm going to buy a Mac home laptop now.

I messaged 4 girls on POF last night and didn't get a response. Must be Windows fault. Gonna buy a Mac now.

I just copped a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 from their outlet.
i5-3320M
8GB ram
320GB 7200RPM HDD
All of that for $520 shipped.
For another $150-200 bucks I'm going to double the ram and add either an mSATA or replace the HDD with a SSD. The 7200 HDD is still pretty fast though.
That's an i5 2.6 ghz processor, 16GB ram, solid state drive, all for $700 and weighing in at 3lbs. This thing will fuck a Mac's wife and eat all the food in his fridge while he's in the next room crying. Not to mention how durable these things are, spill proof keyboard, and great battery life.
If you're computer literate you don't even worry about viruses. I don't even know why people bring that up.

Enigma that was an excellent purchase! screen is just a bit small. Where did you get it?

OK I'm going to return the antivirus software, MS Office and the international warranty tomorrow - that'll save me about USD360 and bring me back down to budget. Feckin' ripoff and I hate American sales people

Any recommendations on a laptop similar to the Macbook Air that runs Ubuntu? I have an Air right now and love it, but I'm trying to phase out using software/OS linked to PRISM.

So I've had the Lenovo for a week, and the touchscreen is already broken and the screen itself has a nice crack right down the middle. Terrific.

Bumping this thread...any thoughts now since computers change on a monthly basis? Main concern is that it is light and portable, long battery life, and fast. I will be using this 10+ hours a day, it is my job, my entertainment, etc. Maybe something coming along for black Friday? So far the Yoga 2 still looks the best, but there's a sony flip that maybe good too?

I'm a proud owner of the Yoga 11s. Have not had a single problem with it. Great computer.
The Yoga 2 pro is now out, and I checked it out in best buy before getting the 11s for 760, plus 30 for the cool slip cover, and tax.
The yoga 2 pro is pretty dope, but I wanted 11 inch form factor, not 13. They are the same weight, and the Pro is so light, thin, with excellent screen resolution and of course flexibility.
The lightest laptop out there is the Macbook Air at 2.36 pounds I believe. but at just a touch over 3, the yoga 11s is pretty sick. I'm currently travelling with it. You can get either with upgrades to 8gigs of ram, plus 500 gigs storage, and i7 dual core (but not quad core) processors. I have the i5 with 4gigs and 100 gig storage. It gets the job done for me.
In a few years these things might be below 2 pounds, and at that point it's going to be kind of pointless to have a tablet.

I will say though, that the trackpad on an apple computer simply can be beat. The trackpad on the yoga is decent, but leaves a bit to be desired. It can be a tad tough to use at times.
