Heavy Coats

Heads up Macy's is having a sale on some winter jackets. As low as 99 bucks or so after factoring in discount. Free shipping.

There are some others also.

I've had a weakness for vintage surplus coats.

I bought an RAF officer's greatcoat not too long ago for a song. The rank bars have been removed from the epaulettes, of course.

It's a bespoke item and I literally paid 5% what it'd have been worth to get tailored.

I've taken it everywhere from camping and festivals to gala balls over a dinner suit.

I bought a Royal Navy officer's greatcoat not too long after. Also a bespoke item, the doeskin material is utterly delectable.

The material is thick enough to probably stop a tank - I can't say I've encountered anything toastier in civilian wear.

At some point I'd like to get my hands on a leather overcoat -- popularised by German officers during WW2, they were actually in common use after the war and common amongst the Russian military too:

This Winter I said fuck it and bought this:

My family is from Florida and before that from warm countries.

I wasn't picking up girls in -10 degree NYC February weather anyways.

It is a jacket that will make you sweat if it's more than about 40 degrees out so it is really built for the Northern latitudes and Great Lakes region.
