Worth going?

I like techno so I don't mind going for just music but what's the ratios like?

Since you've never been and you're a techno fan, I would say its worth it for that alone, since its one of the biggest events in the area. In terms of girls, it can be difficult to hold their attention since they're under the influence of whatever you can think of along with being pre-occupied with whatever is going on on stage. You'll find plenty of approachable girls though and quite a few foreign girls as well, especially during intermissions. Try to talk to as many as girls as possible and find out where the best after party is as well. Since the ratios can be downright abysmal in some of those parties(and the event itself), it'll be important to ascertain where the girls will be.

Overall, go with the mindset of enjoying the sets and the actual event, with the chicks being a bonus. You'll see some cute ones, but overall the pool isn't great and certainly not high enough to go if you otherwise don't enjoy techno.

Windsor is underrated. Sooo many 18/19 year olds go there from the general metro Detroit and Ontario area to party and have fun. Dudes there dress sloppy and seem to lack any game. I spent a weekend a few weeks ago and got some numbers and a lay.

Edit: I've seen guys in shorts and tee shirts walking around to the bars and clubs. Meanwhile the girls are wearing dresses and looking cute.

I imagine September must be even better as girls from the university are back for a good time.

All of the river walk is walkable (as opposed to Detroit where maybe 3/4 miles is safe), plenty of restaurants and ice cream places within walking distance, the Canadian dollar is weak agonist the American dollar, uber is cheap, hotels aren't expensive, and there's a few beaches nearby as well.

It was a nice change of pace. I plan on going back a few times later in August.

Ann Arbor

Streets

Main St - Your typical downtown street home to the best restaurants/bars in town. A lot of masters students, and young professionals. Prime nightlife strip
South U - The college street. A bunch of undergrad bars with late night food options. Prime nightlife strip #2
E. Liberty / S. State - convenient stores, fast food restaurants. Basically connects the two streets above.

Nightlife

Ricks - Grimy undergrad bar with dance area. The prime spot for students. Legends are made here. Friday is the best night.
Scorekeepers - The other undergrad bar. Prime spot #2. Less grimy than Ricks but just as poppin. Tues/Thurs/Sat best nights.
LIVE - The best nightclub in Ann Arbor. For some reason undergrads rarely come here.
Bab's Underground Lounge - The best non-undergrad bar. Drink prices reflect that.
Rush St - Looks like a high end lounge but it attracts mad ratchet people for some reason. Worst out of the 5, but for some reason people love this place.

Ann Arbor is pretty small, so besides Thurs/Fri/Sat, there'll be dedicated bars for each night.

Sunday - Blue Lep / Brown Jug
Tuesday - BTB Cantina / Scorekeepers
Wednesday - Alley Bar

If you're visiting or living in/around Detroit then I would recommend spending the afternoon/early evening along the river walk. The main section is basically hart plaza down through the state park area. Plenty of girls in small groups there that are open, walking slow to enjoy the view, or riding a bike. It's a great summertime location so I'm not sure about the other seasons.

Soo much turnover that you won't have to worry about finding the same girl or getting busted by some hater.

I was downtown last night and saw people walking the Riverwalk even when it was dark. Definitely going to check it out. Is there a bike rental service down there or nearby?

Just noticed JB had a post on AA earlier in the thread. Funny how similar it is.

Anyways, here's a few more AA tidbits.

Habana - permanently closed. description was spot on though. I think Rush Street does Salsa Dancing on Thursdays now.
Necto - Thursday is college night, Friday is gay night, and Saturday is the typical club night. Not a place I'd recommend but definitely has talent
Study Lounge - A new lounge which is in the basement of Blue Lep. A lot of students go here, but doesn't compare to Ricks or Skeeps.

Sitdown bars are generally not good for gaming in AA. Blue Lep being the least worst. The absolute best times to visit is during the Fall with home football games. Summer is worst since most students are gone.

I got lost in Detroit after midnight but managed to get out alive:

So I drove across Canada earlier this week and decided to take the Detroit-Windsor tunnel but it didn't go too smoothly. After driving all day from rural Minnesota and getting stuck in Chicago traffic, I was really tired so decided to let the girl I was driving with take over in Kalamazoo because she was familiar with Detroit, a city I'd never been to. She wanted to take the tunnel to Windsor and things were going well until we found out that it was closed for construction and then our GPS kept leading us around in circles, she then started freaking out saying "we're gonna die in Detroit", apparently the city really freaks Canadians out, it didn't help that the only people we saw on the streets were rough looking crack heads on bicycles. So I told her to pull the fuck over and I started driving, trying to figure out how to get to the Ambassador bridge. After a couple of blocks of driving, with this chick still freaking out, I saw two police cars parked in an empty lot, so I pulled in to ask for help.

Now, I've watched enough COPS episodes that I knew to approach calmly, Detroit is murder city after all, so I got out of my car and these cops looked at me like "WTF is this white dude doing?" so I put my hands in the air and said loudly "we're lost Canadians". They started laughing and as I explained to them that the tunnel was closed, one of them offered to escort us to the bridge and I gladly took up the offer. Some of the drive was a bit rough but not too bad, apparently it isn't the rough part of the city, so the cop lead us to the duty free shop where I picked up some really cheap smokes and beer. I was pretty relieved to be back on Canadian soil after crossing the bridge, so was the girl but she was pretty worked up so I checked into a hotel in Windsor and fed her some cock to calm her down.

So anyway, I now live an hour from Detroit so if there's anyone local who wants to meet up, I'm definitely down and look forward to getting to know the city, I really want to go to a Tigers game at some point this summer.

I live in the burbs of Detroit (after most of my life in the Chicago area, long story). Anyhow, you definitely should check out Detroit this summer! Downtown & Midtown Detroit as well as the Corktown area has a lot of life in it these days, particularly on weekends. A ton of money has been pumped into those areas. The core of the city has been sort of on the upswing since the bankruptcy restructuring a few years ago. This was a city that was once referred to as the "Paris of the Midwest".

I'm down to meet you guys this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours, I will buy you beer if you show me around but won't be able to stay too late as I'll have to cross the bridge back to Canada at some point. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

Met up with Scotian & Crash Bandicoot in Detroit Saturday night. Had an epic time! I'm waiting for Crash Bandicoot to get back home. I'm sure between the three of us we'll have a nice writeup for you guys. I wasn't really in attack mode the night we hung out. I think all 3 of us were in a mindset to just let loose and have a great fucking night out (almost like those classic nights out a lot of us had back when we were in our 20's). I was grooving so hard to the house music that a couple chicks even came up & danced with me briefly but I didn't aggressively feel like closing on those chicks in that moment. I was just in my own world lol. I did see Crash making a lot of approaches which was cool. But yeah I'll embellish on the tale soon. Crash, let us know when you make it back home to Massachusetts.

I had a great time in Detroit with Jordypip23 and Crash Bandicoot, both solid dudes who I look forward to meeting again. I was originally planning on only staying for a couple of hours to drink a couple of beers and eat some food but I ended up getting wasted and falling down drunk, literally, Detroit is a great city to drink in, when you fall down the bouncers don't kick you out, they help you up, dust you off and let you keep drinking, my type of place.

Since I'm banned from Airbnb, I ended up staying at a hostel with Crash Bandicoot and it wasn't too bad, the location was great, within walking distance to Corktown. We started at Slows BBQ joint, its a nice spot with great beer selection and good cheap food. Then we walked a couple of blocks to a grimy bar called McShanes for a couple of more. Corktown is full of working class pisstanks of Celtic origin, I fit right in.

Then we walked some more and ended up at a small joint called D'mangoes (sp?), it was really nice, cool interior and nice vibe, there was a live band playing cool rock tunes. We had some more drinks there and I got on the rum and that's when things started going side ways for me.

From what I can recall, we took an Uber to a club called Marble Bar, it was pretty cool, basically a big room in the front and a large smoking area in the back where tons of people were blazing weed. The DJ was playing old Motown hits from the 60/70s, I love that shit, my parents always played it growing up. We had some burgers there too and I continued slamming double gin and tonics. The vibe was a bit too hipsterish for me though, the girls weren't very attractive which is saying sometime because I have pretty low standards.

At one point we walked a couple of blocks away so I could get smokes and the area was pretty rough, I bought some beers too and we drank them at an abandoned house with a sofa in the front yard, that was pretty funny.

Then we ended up at an after hours rave spot, I haven't partied like that in years but I got super fucked up and as I mentioned before, fell down at one point and scraped my arm up but just went back in. My jaw and nose felt funny the next day so I guess I was partying pretty hard with the locals. As Jordypip23 mentioned, there were some nice girls there and I also remember some dancing very close to me but I was so whacked out of my mind that I just danced and didn't approach, oh well. For some reason there were lots of young French people there and I spoke to some of them en francais but can't remember what they were doing in Detroit.

The next day I woke up with a brutal hang over and drove back to Canada but was delayed by a pride parade, fucking queers haha!

I'll definitely be back to Detroit, hopefully the weather is better next time and I can see more of the city, I'll try to make it over earlier so I can do some tourist type stuff, I found a couple of interesting looking tours online.

Thanks for meeting up bros, its always nice to meet some RVF locals in a new city!

Scotian + Jordy outlined our night out pretty well, so I'll cap it at that. Was only there for a few days, so I can't detail all of the hoppin nightlife spots, but from my limited time there, Detroit is a fun city for sure....it's got an edgy, alternative, energetic vibe that I like

Ahhh fuck. I'll be tied down with family obligations this coming weekend otherwise I likely would've been game for it. Let me know the next time you're in town. Midwest continues to go hard throughout summer & fall seasons.
