Again, don't go to India.

^ I've been to Mumbai for a few days. It's worth it as a travel experience, though you'll probably get at least mildly sick from the food, despite eating only at restaurants.

I fully subscribe to the idea that India is not worth it for the girls.

Those of you who have been there, is it worth it for the travel experience, food, etc., or is this place a complete no-go?

I wouldn't say it is a total no go, and it depends where you go. The north is much more interesting than the south in terms of food and culture. Overall, it's probably not such a great place to meet women but if you want to see the sights, yes, I'd say there's things to do. But be warned, it's gritty.

Hyderabad

I recently spent some time for work in Hyderabad, which is where many US companies have offices (for cheap Indian labor). It is a study in contradictions. A block or two from the Facebook offices and you will see people living in squalor in makeshift tents. Ditto for Verizon, Oracle, Accenture, Delloite and a host of others. Uber works there, which is cheap and usually available, but don't expect clean cars.

If the traffic, plumbing, roads and general infrastructure is any indication of how things are put together, I've already got an idea as to why Indian code gets such a bad rap for being shoddy. But companies come here to save money on grunt code work, not to develop their cutting edge source code. The major US tech firms will never completely relocate to India not so much because of a talent gap, since they want the intellectual property protection of US law while getting Indian labor, either in India or via H1-B visas, domestically, for cheap.

Socially, Hyderabad and presumably other big cities are maybe slightly better for chasing women, but only slightly. There is a club scene, complete with club drugs from what one local girl told a buddy of mine, but it is still mostly a sausage fest. You probably don't want to be in a club full of no women and drunk Indians, so forget about that unless you've got a local guide who knows what's up. As others have pointed out, the talent pool is pretty shallow. The country is pretty conservative regardless of religious background, and I didn't see many women over the age of 25 who were not already getting chunky. It's partly genetics, partly diet - lots of carbs, fats and little fiber coupled with a hard life - the poor ones especially look older than they are - and you get the idea. That plus their princess attitude discussed here ad nauseum should make you reconsider going there for chasing ass.

As a side note, India has a very serious problem with rapes - particularly gang rapes. You can read stories in the news weekly of such reports - it's damned disturbing. Add to that the stats that say supposedly up to 30% of Indian males had their first sexual experience with another guy and you can't help thinking there's a cultural problem - it isn't just about raw numbers and ratios.

There are a couple of old forts from the middle age era in Hyderabad worth a quick drive (hired car or Uber) if you happen to be in town, but other than that, not a lot in the way of history. If you get tired of Indian food while you're there, I saw KFC, McDonalds and even a Starbucks.

Udaphur

Udaphur is smaller and a little more yoga-crunchy in terms of visitors. It's the town where they filmed part of James Bond, Octopussy, in the early 1980s. The villa out in the middle of the lake is something to see as is the city palace, a vintage car museum. There are a couple of boat rides and sunset trips make this more of a low key couples kind of place.

Jodphur, Agra & Jaiphur

The old city in Jodpuhr, Mehrangarh fort, a few spice shops and bazaars, etc. make it an interesting stop for a night. The massive 16th century fort atop the mountain can be toured and is visible from some rooftop bars and hotels and makes for a good night photo shoot. From there you can take an overnight train or fly to Agra. Agra is where the Taj Majal is and I have to admit it's worth seeing that - it's an amazing engineering feat, built by a Muslim emperor, albeit using mostly slave labor. Get there very early (6AM, and buy your ticket online) or you will be mobbed by tour groups and any pictures you take will show it.

The Taj was also the only place outside of the airports where I saw security being taken semi-seriously. You will find metal detectors all over the place in India but mostly they are either not working or the staff is poorly trained and/or not doing proper searches. They didn't even have that much going on before the Mumbai terrorist attack at the Taj hotel. India is about 80% Hindu but there are still millions of muslims, most of them in the northern part of the country where I was. All it takes are a couple of pissed off guys with an idea to pull something off, so keep your wits about you.

Jaiphur has a gigantic fort complex similar to what's in Jodphur and more popular with tour groups. I still say it's worth seeing and in this case hiring a guide through a web site. Most other sites you really don't need a guide, not even for the Taj Majal, but for that site it'll get you through a lot of hassle and a good one with a driver and car can take you to all tour spots in the city.

Currency fiasco; other thoughts

Hopefully by the time you read this they will have un-fucked their currency mess. Not long after I got there the government thought it would be a good idea to invalidate most of the cash currency in an effort to catch tax cheats. The plan was to replace the old bills with new ones at ATMs nationwide. They didn't think this one through carefully and there are lines around the corner at every ATM in the country, since most of it is a cash economy. No cash = no way to conduct business. You can charge a few things, but even then your mileage may vary with what kind of card you have, which businesses take it (most do not) and whether or not their connectivity is working that day.

Again, I would not go there for the women but there are things to see. I did not get sick but I did not eat street food and avoided ice and fresh fruit and vegetables outside of my hotels and better restaurants, mostly. Of course drink only bottled water no matter where you are.

Conclusion

India is a frustrating place - they have I don't know how many billionaires, produced successful major corporations like Mittal Steel, Tata, Infosys, etc. Yet even so, many of them still drive on dirt roads, shit in the streets, let trash pile up everywhere and receive international aid while the upper classes live in walled communities and get richer. Either nobody is paying taxes or what is being paid is being squandered - probably both. That and the class structure appears to be still very much alive - Indians simply don't give a shit about those in classes beneath them. Corruption is rampant, and the culture carries over to Indians abroad - they tend to only promote other Indians and ask anybody what it's like to work for an Indian boss and you'll probably get some eye rolling.

So yeah, it can be disgusting all the way around by western standards, but there are sites to see, particularly in the north. On the plus side, it can be affordable and Indians in the tourist industry (aside from street hawkers) generally make an honest effort at being helpful. Who knows where they might be in another half a a century. Then again, I suspect the only difference may be a few more people will be very rich, a few more corporations will get even bigger, and we'll still be reading about gang rapes and see livestock eating garbage in the middle of the streets.

Some things have to be experienced beyond watching Eat, Pray, Love and seeing places aside from made-for-tourists spots like Goa. Would I do it again? Maybe not, but I am glad I went.

SlickyBoy- thanks for the detailed response. Very informative.

That article you linked... damn.

I've always heard guys saying that the ratios in the public sphere of India are shit, but I always attributed it to India being a more closed-door society, keeping women at home. But I didn't realize that there is literally 10% more men than women in that country. When I first read that statistic it didn't sound like that big of a deal, but as I kept reading the article it really sunk in. It's a big deal.

India has always been an internal debate for me. Despite the women situation being shit, I'm realizing that India may be a place that is worth traveling to simply to experience a culture drastically different than my own.

A friend of mine who recently returned described the country as follows: "This place is insane. One billion people, and they all want to talk to you, or sell something to you, or take money from you, or drink chai with you— or more likely, do all four of those at the same time."

Another friend's impression: "Imagine each of your five senses and all of your emotions have a 'volume' dial from 1-10. At some point during your trip to India they will all be maxed out at 11".

An internet acquaintance from a travel forum I follow who has traveled to over 150 countries names India in his top 5 best travel experiences.

Others say that it was the worst place they've ever been. I even heard of someone who ended up buying a return flight 8 hours after landing.

The very fact that this country can inspire such extreme emotions (both positive and negative) intrigues me.

I feel like I need to experience the insanity at least once in my life.

Co-signing what SlickyBoy said about India. Some support:

1) When I was a kid, most of our family friends were Indian. The Indian moms were almost always at least overweight. My Southeast Asian mom wasn't.

2) Speaking of my mom, at least in her day, Southeast Asians knew that women couldn't travel alone in India, lest they be raped. Apparently that isn't the case in Southeast Asia.

3) My Southeast Asian dad has worked for Indians in the US. His metric on if they'll be a fair boss or not? The car they drive. If they drive something like a Toyota, you're screwed. If they drive something like a BMW, you're probably fine.

Okay. Im 27, lived in India for 2 years when I went there for work, and I've lived in the west for a long ass time, so I might have a more balanced perspective of the whole thing. I'll try and drop a detailed data sheet some time today after work if time permits.

TL;DR though - Not worth it for the girls unless you find a specific niche, or rely very heavily on social network (as opposed to cold approaching) and are in one area for some time (>1 week). SNLs are possible but India is pretty binary (WB/WNB), and chances are the ones down for SNLs are just dogs. There's niche gold mines in most of the larger cities, but again, don't expect to find them if you're traveling for a short time.

As a life experience, India is unlike any other, however, it is strongly recommended that you go with someone you trust and who knows the country inside out.

Another reason not to go to India, at least if you're dumb enough to travel there as a single female tourist. The rape epidemic shows no signs of abating. There's been a pattern of women getting drugged after their guide gives them an open bottle of something to drink. The latest episode, here.

Quote:Quote:

NEW DELHI: A US woman has told police she was gang-raped at a top hotel in the Indian capital during a visit earlier this year - the latest in a series of alleged sexual assaults against tourists.

Delhi police launched a formal investigation Saturday (Dec 3) after receiving a direct complaint from the woman, who is in the United States and had initially contacted them through an email by a US-based NGO.

"The police have registered a case of rape and will now verify all aspects of the woman's complaint," Joint Commissioner of police Mukesh Meena told AFP.

"We had received the email (from the US-based NGO) earlier but could register a case only after getting a direct complaint from the woman late Saturday," the officer added.

Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj urged police to "bring guilty to book" after initial media reports of the incident.

"I have also asked Indian Ambassador in US to contact the victim and assure her that we will not spare the guilty," she tweeted on Saturday.

Local media reports, citing police sources, said the woman had travelled to India in April but cut her visit short after the alleged crime. The woman has complained that her local tour guide, who had access to her room, gave her a spiked bottle of water and raped her with four other acquaintances inside her hotel room.

"She said that after having water from the bottle, she started feeling dizzy. Then four other men... entered the room and locked it," a report in the Sunday Times of India said.

Police are now verifying the woman's timeline and tracking the suspects, including by checking security camera footage from the hotel.

Sexual attacks on tourists in India are widespread, with several western countries warning visitors about the risk. A 35-year-old Japanese tourist was raped in southern India last month.

Last year a Japanese woman was drugged and raped by a tourist guide in the western city of Jaipur, less than a month after six men gang-raped a 22-year-old Japanese tourist in the eastern city of Kolkata.

An Indian court in June this year convicted five men for gang-raping a 52-year-old Danish tourist in New Delhi in 2014. They were jailed for life.

India is also facing intense scrutiny over its efforts to curb violence against women in general following the fatal gang rape of a medical student in New Delhi in December 2012, which sparked a global outcry.

On the flip side, if you are traveling there and you meet an attractive single tourist girl and apply decent game, it's probably an easy way to score some guilt free "it doesn't count because I'm on vacation" sex from her as she'll be extra relieved you're not a local perv with a ruphee in your pocket.

It's a horrible place to travel as a single man. The male to female ratio is horrendous , and malnutrition rates are rampant. It doesn't help that majority of the Hindu/Sikh population is also vegetarian. I'm of east Indian descent what I will say is that even a country like India still has its sweet spots. Areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and a few archaeological and historical sites would definitely make it worth the trip. This is a place to visit with your significant other and not as a single male unless your a exception to the rule. The most attractive Indian women are most likely in the northern state of punjab, and if your punjabi with connects it would be worth it then. You can find attractive women in other regions of India. But the ratio of attractive/unattractive women is horrendous so its a horrible investment for a large majority of single men.

Paraphrasing what I have heard from Indian friends in U.S.:

"I heard Gujarat, South India and West Bengal are becoming places for sex tourists. Its somewhat easy to get laid in these three states / regions. Freida Pinto, Nandita Das and Mindy Kaling are the common looks of Indian women.

South Indian (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh) women in the U.S. have issues with their skin complexion (its too dark) and use fairness cream. As long as you are white or fair-skinned, they are supposed to be an easy lay.

Gujarati women in the U.S. are the easiest of Indian women. Search for women with surnames like Patel, Shah, Amin, Desai. They are literally everywhere stateside. Not very attractive, but Gujarati women are always DTF"

Answer: "Yes, I am South Indian" or "Yes, I am Gujarati"

Yeah your right about that, these women are found mostly in north India but in low quantities. I live in a suburb of Toronto known as Brampton and honestly there are some beauties within the punjabi subgroup of indians. The ratio between good looking/unattractive women is not the best thats why its not the best investment.

Absolutely not. I'm of east Indian descent myself I would probably not recommend India just because of many factors. There's so many better places in Asia with more attractive women then India. It's just the female ratio of attractive/unattractive is pretty awful. So from a dating economic standpoint the top level Indian women are going to get a lot of attention and are going to pick the best guys. Even worse the male population is higher than the female population. You do have some status as a white guy... so maybe you could tap the higher level chicks. Go on Badoo and check your responses with some of the chicks in India.

India is the worst place i've ever been for women and i've been to some shitholes. Not saying there are no attractive Indian women but they must have all been locked in the house when i was there.

I do have fond memories of India as it was my first trip outside of Europe and the culture shock alone was worth it. But like othes have said, go for the culture, go see Taj Mahal, not the women.

Goa is alright, but a tad overrated, better parties to be had in Thailand.

Realize that the thread's titled "Again, don't go to India", but I thought this was interesting. The big premiums on bitcoin might be a decent way to make a cheap India trip even cheaper: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/india-bi...eaches-20/

Things have come down from the 20% premium, but I've seen several ads on localbitcoins India that are selling at $80-$100 above US prices even before the service charge.

With India's capital controls it looks almost impossible to do the arbitrage to bring back the profit, but still good for in-country purchases.

Indian women are one of the most ugly women I have ever seen. Yes, there are beautiful Indian women, but they are rare and not the norm. They mostly have a beautiful face and nice hair, but their bodies aren't feminine at all.

And I also noticed the difference between people from Southern India and Northern India. The Southern ones look more Australoid to me, while the Northern ones look more Caucasian.

I found it was a better place when I wasn't trying to get laid. Outside of the cities I found some nice areas, both in the Himalayas and in Goa. In Goa you can definitely bang hot women on vacation from around the world.

I wouldn't shack up with poor women there because of the risk of disease, and lack of birth control. Rich women are incredibly pressured to start families, and are probably surrounded by them. Overall it seemed a horrible place to try to get laid.

The Sari dresses are beautiful, but the ones that show skin are all grandmas, and the young women wearing them also wear more clothing and cover up.

Indian guy here. The problem with India is that India is still desperately holding onto its past and wrongly assuming that it's their culture. People here just not open about anything and live a highly boring and poor quality of life. And it's only getting worse.

The unnaturalness (is that a word?) of a sex-negative and conservative culture directly results in immature personalities. When I talk to my fellow Indian guys and girls, I almost feel like I'm having a conversation with a 3 year old. No wit. No intelligence. Just plain fucking boring. It's a very wrong assumption that Indians are smart. Complete myth. What they are good is at mugging things up and solving mathematical/logical problems because they are forced to do that since they are kids. They completely lack emotional and social intelligence.

According to me, a really intelligent society will always be sexually open, even though they might be poorer. For instance, when I talk to Filipinios, they sound way more mature, intelligent and on the whole, fun loving people. In India, it's the opposite. If people see you having fun, they'll do their damned best to find a way to stop you. Just Google the mob justice/moral policing that happens here. Everyone is frustrated and angry here and yet they don't realise that the basis of all that is sexual repression. Instead, they blame on things like corruption. No one is born corrupt. People turn corrupt due to circumstances and culture.

Repressing sex makes a man lose motivation (hence, poor work ethic) and turn towards perversion. That actually is the basis of the rape culture ( which BTW is hugely blown out of proportion by the media).

I would never advise any Rooshv member to come here. You'll simply be bored to death. You can read my other threads where I've gone more into detail. Dying to get out of here.

As a kid, my mom loved watching those Bollywood movies from the 70s and 80s, for some reason.
The main female leads were usually pretty, and as light skinned as the casting director could find. They were usually 8+ in looks.

This gave me a false impression of what the typical Indian girl looked like, until I grew older.
Only to realize the average Indian girl is like a 4, on a good day.

If only all Indian girls looked like Aishwarya Rai in her prime. Yum!
