Nathan Muir: See that building across the way?
Tom Bishop: Yeah.
Nathan Muir: Do you know anyone there?
Tom Bishop: No.
Nathan Muir: In five minutes I want to see you on the balcony.
Tom Bishop: What do...
Nathan Muir: Five minutes.
Tom Bishop: Can't we discuss it over coffee?
Nathan Muir: You just lost ten seconds.

Hey All,

This week and the next one for those who are in Sao Paulo is happening a huge event in cinema: the 34th international festival of cinema, which have brought several movies in the alternative/comercial circuit. Last Sunday there was an exibition of the movie Metropolis with 29 extras minutes plus the Sao Paulo Orchestra live at the Ibirapuera Park. Cool huh?

Cool low-budget travel flick, partially inspired by true events, almost all real people (no trained actors), about a white hipster kid from NYC who takes a cruise to Jamaica, get's robbed, stranded, and has to get to the US embassy in Kingston without any money, shoes, shirt, etc. A great flick and as true to the Jamaican experience, you can get, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and (I've been to JA twice now). Movie is called "Wah Do Dem" if you're into indie flicks and are interested in Jamaica, check it out.

I'm into Asian films recently. Less politically correct and with much more depth. I loved Lust, Caution. One of the best movies I ever seen. Pretty much any movie with Tony Leung, he is a natural player and clearly shows in the movies. Last Life In The Universe was awesome too. Nanking Nanking if you are into war movies about the Japanese massacre in China. Okuribito or Departures in English shows Japanese way of life in a nice way. Korean 'Bittersweet Life' is pretty good too with lots of action.

Asian cinema is so much more refreshing after watching Hollywood crap for the last few years.

Just saw all the films - except the korean - that you recommended, and they are definitely VERY much worth seeing. Only problem is that you really want to go travel ASAP after seeing them.

Cracker Jack, did you know that the team behind Last life in the Universe had made a 2006 movie called Invisible Waves? Sounds like a pretty interesting plot - I'll report back once I have seen it.

But loads of good advice in this thread. Somebody mentioned The Hill with Sean Connery - it is very good as well - pure alpha acting.

If you haven't seen them yet, 'Closer', 'Vicky Christina Barcelona' and 'Alfie' have got some interesting stories about attraction and seduction - plus good action and hot women. Obligatory international playboy entertainment.

Beebopaloo, yeah just checked the trailer of Invisible Waves and looks promising. Downloading it now. Can't believe I haven't seen The Hill, looks like a classic.

I can't even look at the poster of most romantic comedies without gagging. The only romantic comedy I would consider watching is if Vince Vaughn plays in it. At least you can laugh at one-liners.

Yeah, unfortunately I couldn't really get the subtitles to fit the speed of the movie, which ruined the experience for me. I hope you have better luck. It actually reminds me a lot of 'last life in the universe'.

What player do you use? I use VLC that pretty much plays any codec and you can also adjust the subtitle position in it's settings.

i highly recommend straw dogs; the 1971 version - i believe they are in the process of doing a remake. it's about a home invasion. one of the few films i've ever seen that i couldn't stop thinking about for days. stars dustin hoffman and a quite attractive english actress
