Shogun Assassin -- trippy movie from the 70s, tons of over the top gore, classic!
Dinner With Schmucks -- complete waste of money and time.
Man on Wire -- cool movie about dude who high-wired across the twin towers, inspiring.
Best in Show -- hilarious.

Malena -Monica Bellucci at her hottest in a beautiful shot coming of age film during World War II. This movie is at times Funny, Sad and Harsh, and Uplifting. Look for the Unrated version for even more Monica.
Felon- If you guys like Prophet, which was good, I think you'll love Felon. Stephen Dorff plays a normal guy who kills a robber fleeing his home. He's sentenced to a short stint but gets set up as murdering another convict. He winds up housed with Val Kilmer, a crazy killer nobody messes with. At the same time, a corrupt C/O in that cellblock runs gladiatorial games with the convicts. Top notch acting all around, especially from Kilmer.
I second Shogun Assassin, but add Black Belt Jones, probably one of the greatest blaxploitation/kung fu films of all time. Funky music, characters, so much quotable dialog, watch it with your friends and some drinks.
Hurt Locker is so over-rated and Hollywood, as quite a few IED Disposal people have said. Instead for Modern Warfare watch Black Hawk Down, great action and a fairly true telling of what happened in Somalia. We were Soldiers is the go-to Vietnam war era film. I like the way it also shows the emotional damage of the widows left to cope back home. Mel Gibson and Sam Eliott knock it out of the park. Also keep an eye out for Don Draper.

I think your guys taste is kind of hit or miss IMHO. Here are some picks that you may find interesting:
The City of Lost Children, Pan's Labrynth, Adaptation, Belly, Cocaine Cowboys 2, The Big Lebowski (everyone should have seen this by now), Blue Velvet (David Lynch's best work in IMO), Slam

No
Fargo- **** out of ****. Awesome story, very funny (if you are dark and morbid like myself), showcases the "other" America that many don't even know about (no not the "fantasy" of rich people worship of Jersey shore more where McDonalds is the go to spot for teenagers looking to hang out..."but that is boring you say" ...imagine that)

. The wood chipper scene is worth the price of admission alone.
I haven't seen the Big Lebowski yet but the directors of Fargo made that movie as well. I heard it is about L.A.
Also from the same directors, No Country For Old Men (another **** out of **** stars.) I guess it is official, I am citing the coen brothers as one of my influences!.

I just saw Inception and loved it. Reminded me of The Matrix, except more believable. Tim Ferriss has written a blog post on how to Lucid dream.

I'm into Asian films recently. Less politically correct and with much more depth. I loved Lust, Caution. One of the best movies I ever seen. Pretty much any movie with Tony Leung, he is a natural player and clearly shows in the movies. Last Life In The Universe was awesome too. Nanking Nanking if you are into war movies about the Japanese massacre in China. Okuribito or Departures in English shows Japanese way of life in a nice way. Korean 'Bittersweet Life' is pretty good too with lots of action.
Asian cinema is so much more refreshing after watching Hollywood crap for the last few years.

I saw all the Brazilian movies named, plus TONS more. I would have to say that hands down the best Brazilian flick I saw was "Meu Nome Nao E Johnny." Did you see this one Chocolatinha? Such a good movie, but you can't find it in the US
Another suggestion I have is, "The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down." It should still be on Netflix watch instantly. I know the tittle sounds lame, the only reason I watched it was because of the description. It turned out to be fucking awesome. Check it out if you get a chance.
Another good foreign flick is a German flick called "Run Lola Run!" or "Lola Rent!"
Pretty much anything by the Coen Brothers. Fargo, Raising Arizona, the Big Lebowski, The Hudsucker Proxy, Lady Killers. The only ones of theirs I wouldn't suggest are Bloodsimple, A Serious Man, or Barton Fink.

Another good Braizilian flick is Carandiru. It's about a huge prison riot and aids epidemic in a Sao Paulo prison where 100+ unarmed men were shot dead. Based on a true story.

You guys should check out Roman Polanski's latest work (yes Polanski the quirky weirdo polish director who's preggo wife was killed by the manson family in the 60s, and who later fled the U.S. for date-raping a 14 year old girl). Regardless of this guy's strange life, he is a hell of a director, his latest film "Ghostwriter" is riveting. It's a fictional tale, that could be so real, set in today's modern political world, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, great directing and screen writing.

Not a movie, but I've started rewatching the Sopranos and there is smth to be said for the attitude of people like tony and christopher - they seem to be more in touch with their masculine side
last nite saw the bit where tony is belt whipping his counselman friend for going out with his ex girlfriend, that crazy russian chick
