It's safe to assume that being offended and going on valiant internet crusaders to champion the rights of fringe minority groups fuels the purpose to their hollow, ironic existence.

Haha, I'm balding so I'm fucking freezing in Winter (and Spring, and Autumn in the UK!) so I always wear a woolly hat when I'm out. Perhaps I should stop as it is becoming part of the mangina uniform!

Typical Portland style is to wear the wool cap in warm sunny weather. My going theory is that it's meant to hide their hair owing to not having bathed in a week.

I wear a watch cap in the winter. It was my standard cold weather headgear long before the hipsters adopted it. The big difference is that I roll it to keep it tight to my head. The hipster/mangina way to rock a wool hat is to have it all long, so it looks like you're wearing a sock on your head. That shit is out of control right now.

Also, Adibisi from Oz knew how to to rock a watch cap with some class.

I wear black knit watch caps. But with a Carthart Detroit work jacket, with boots, aviators, and boot cut jeans. People say I look like a pissed off dock worker. Far from a hipster. It's all about frame gents.

Here in Buenos Aires we do not have the same winters than in the US or the UK (or Russia), but it can get cold, and for those days, i prefer to use an ushanka my grandfather owned. I found it very warm.

Portland nightlife was utterly lame. I checked it out on Friday night and was quite disgusted. Thankfully I met up with a chick I already knew on Saturday. Did some hiking and ate good. I didn't even bother going out Saturday night. Don't even think about this city as a place where chicks may reside. It's only good for nature and beer/coffee/food.

Seems like all these hipster/liberal cities that act like they're so open minded and loving are filled with the most judgmental people out there.
Austin is one of these places and it's hilarious to witness if you're coming from an actual diverse place and see nothing but whites all around the city. They really wanna believe they're in this perfect liberal utopia in a mean, racist state. Keep Austin Weird should be changed to Keep Austin White. Texas Monthly did an article on it being the state's most segregated city.

Have you been there Mark? You would shake up the internet 100x worse if you stayed for a while and wrote up how un cultured, white, and bland it is [Image: popcorn3.gif] Austintude runs rampant there.

I like Austin, but I don't love it as the "saving grace" of Texas with the assumption that Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Abilene, Tyler, etc are all the same exact cities, which they aren't.

I do agree that cities built around spiting the "rest of the world" can indeed be some of the most cliquish and insular ones out there as I've read Portland, as a very segregated one, can be like that based on forum contributions.

Had a chance to read the article as the lady made some good pts about mocking the stereotypical "austinite." But, she also comes off as an annoying entitled femi-nazi who's been "wronged by society" because UT Austin didn't have enough Hispanic or Black faculty when she started working there completely disregarding the numbers of Asian staffing likely employed at the institution while being able to cash in on top notch benefits and endless amounts of paid time off annually...

.....just one who goes against the grain of "Austin thinking."

I like the "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurants, BBQ joints, outdoor scenery, and certain nightlife options in the Hill Country area, but it's unfair for Austin-ites to portray themselves as the most "open-minded" city that's just light years ahead of the rest of the state when places like Houston or DFW have a wider range of ethnic food offerings, more cosmopolitan lifestyle options, professional sports, and more career-based industries outside of IT. I'm not saying that makes those cities "ahead" of other Texas ones, but that it's impossible for Austin to be "the saving grace" of the state when it lacks the overall lifestyle options offered in DFW or a Houston.

The thing is, you have to be open minded in Houston city limits because you're gonna be living next to all kinds of people, not just white. There's not many places you can go where it's all white like Austin is at every corner unless you get way out of the city. I knew it was bullshit when I started reading and hearing things about Austin people saying those things and wasn't surprised when I went and felt like I was in Maine or some shit. It was the strangest thing to come from Houston and be in a Texas city where everyone is white on a strip of restaurants and stores. It's easy to be open minded and claim to be so liberal when you don't live anywhere near a minority, much less have to interact with them.

Houston has everything Austin has, you just have to drive a lot more. Austin is not close to what it was in the 90's and before. Anyways, I'm pretty sure it's just transplants hating on Texas. They probably get scared going to the real cities because you see black and brown everywhere.

This article was pretty funny

Just remember the Iron law of liberal politics: You're only liberal if you live in a 95+% white neighborhood
