Google is offering their GalaxyNexus for 349 dollars.
Its GSM unlocked. Pentaband..when most world unlocked phones are Quadband.

This is the phone google will use to push all its newest updates and so forth.
aka it wont be obsolete in 6 months.

On his topic, Pre-paid sims seems the more of a hassle in the USA. What kind of sim should I be getting if I want data traffic for 2 weeks?

Depends how much data you plan to use.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments...b_of_data/

this list has US cell phone plans, prices and what you get out of them

I wish there was a page like this for other countries(or maybe i didnt find it.

I just found out from one of my girls in germany that i could have been saving like 15 dollars a month and getting 3times the service..all because i didnt know all the plans

There are waterproof android phones now too, great for those tropical places and beaches. There's the motorola defy and the samsung galaxy xcover. I'm probably missing other phones too.

Remember to check what the local laws are for mobile phones. Popping SIM cards in and out isn't always an option. For example, using an outside mobile in Turkey is restricted and if you don't register your phone within a month of arrival, the number will get banned. I had problems in Bosnia as well, but that might have simply been because of the language barrier.

Don't know if people know this, but iPhones can be unlocked if you are past your 2 year contract period. Free and permanent. Call ATT.

Why not just get an unlocked one in the first place?

Anyway, I like the iPhone, but it's really not all that great for hopping countries with. The micro SIM and need for a special opener is seriously annoying. Back before I was an Apple addict I was cruising through Eastern Europe and SE Asia changing cheap SIM after cheap SIM whenever I crossed a border, or even just when a girl got too annoying and kept calling me. But these days it's a lot harder now that I use iPhones, mainly because of the weird SIM.

I've worked with cellphones almost my whole life, If youre going to travel get yourself one of them cheap android phones that come unlocked majority of em are 3G for example this one is really good, its not that expensive comes with most things. That way if you lose it or get your things stolen you didnt lose a phone woth more than $200.00

Majority of these come with DUAL sim, That way you could use your SIM card or a prepaid SIM card from your original country that lets you roam that way in case of an emergency from home they could reach you.
And the use the other SIM slot for the country you're in.
I've sold a lot of these for travelers and despite the fact theyre not made by a big brand people love all the feature they come with.
Resear Maxwest phones theyre chinese but get the job done.

Any idea how I can find one in LA?

Thanks.

You're looking anywhere from 150.00 to 200.00

edit: Check out to see if theres maybe a newer model with a better camera than the one I showed you it shouldnt make much of a price difference.

I ran out of time on my last trip and didn't get a phone in the US. I grabbed a phone in Poland instead and it was ok. But this time I'd like to grab a better phone. I will be hitting Poland and Ukraine. Anyone let me know if this is ok? Thanks!

I was hoping you would check this thread! Yes just text and calls some communication apps maybe. Who knows maybe tinder and instagram.

I just want to be able to use it in both Poland and Ukraine.

Maybe some internet surfing if I am on the street and need to find something. I will be bringing my iPhone also mainly to be able to keep in touch with the US should I need to.

BCien, if you wouldn't mind confirming that this seems ok, I'll order it and have it here before I leave.

Thanks so much!

I've used: iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and a Galaxy Nexus on my trips to Europe. All of these phones were unlocked. I use Vodafone for service.

Check this list out: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_L...nformation

Cross reference the phone(s) you may want to buy have the proper frequencies and bands in them for best performance.

I'd be a bit leery about buying ekectronics off of eBay.

PM me if you want for more info.

Excellent bump.

Imagine a time when the dirt cheapest smart phone was $130 and didn't have Wifi?

You can get fully functioning no-brand androids with better specs than the original Iphone for $80 now.
