HK girls aren't super hard but unless you like verbal jousting with girls

And that's putting it very nicely.

Tiger parenting is intergenerational abuse and most southern Chinese girls (Guangdong, HK, Singapore, South East Asian diaspora) seem somewhere between pathological narcicism and borderline - serious mental illness conditions.

Unless you have unlimited mental stamina to deflect their abuse (constant put downs, non stop nuclear shit tests and violent tendencies) it's best to stay the hell away from them.

because absolutely everyone comes from a different place there - unlike Shanghai there is no entrenched "local caste" yet, whereas Shanghai girls have a rather notorious reputation in China.

Can you expand on what this means?

Materialistic / gold diggers / arrogant etc. I've never interacted with a local Shanghainese girl to any meaningful degree so I'm not able to comment, but that is the common sentiment among Chinese.

Guys, how is life over there?
I have seen mainly datasheets listing bars, clubs and hook up experiences but how is the quality of life?

Quality of flats that you can rent, how hard is it to get a decent one? Are people friendly? Do people work too much? Are there many good gyms?
How much do you need per month to live decently? Including rent?

-it's really expensive. an OK flat will cost about US$3k p/month. you can find one same day.
-people are very friendly and open. expats are rich and get drunk 6 nights p week, locals are always up for a good time but typically family oriented and don't throw many around on nights out cos they're saving for apartment
-people say they work really hard but whatever, it's a large, wealthy city so same same
-there are gyms everywhere... again, they're expensive
-you need probably US$5k p/month to spend on life's basics
-unless you've a job you want lined up,, would advise against it... there are cheaper, cleaner less snobby cities in Asia.

Wow, that’s higher than I thought. It seems even more expensive than London.

It's one of these weird things where if someone really want a non-pros Hong Kong flag then you might be better off looking for it in Vancouver or Sydney (or anywhere with Hong King immigrants).

My first girlfriend was a international student from Hong Kong.

It's true, immigrants are not typical of their home culture, both from being a self-selected group, and without the old social structures enforcing conformity.

I don't want to reminise about the past, but she was deepthinking and passionate and not at all status-hungry or materialistic. n=1 and all, and I'm fully aware those who go overseas, AND those who date non-Chinese are less likely to be representative of the whole bunch.

"It seems even more expensive than London."

rent is much more expensive.
I paid 18,000 a month for 40 sqm in wanchai and that was not including furniture.

you would need at least 40k hkd to live a good life.

How are those Mercer surveys worked out??? Beijing is more expensive for expats than San Fran? I can’t think of one everyday item that would be cheaper in San Fran than Beijing, rent alone would be 1/3 of the cost in China.
