I think Streep gets such a pass on her bullshit these days for no reason other than the fact that she represents what every ageing female baby boomer imagines herself to be.

Slim. Well dressed. Relatively well aged. Classy.

"Conceited cunt" doesn't show up on their radar, though in reality it's probably the only real world correlation between her and her fan base, whereas all the other comparisons are pure fantasy hamstering.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

The oscars just a hit a 9 year rating low. Its consecutive lows for all award shows, emmy's, golden globes etc.

As the segmentation of the market continues and the oscars not reflecting the box office(best picture nominees represented some 2-3% of box office) they will only get more pathetic and more desperate.

I've mentioned the Death of the Monoculture in a few posts recently. I spend time yesterday around many different groups of people, read some online news sites and had dinner with a group of seven.

Not one person mentioned the Oscars was happening that day. I'd been thinking recently that the right should push for no walls between celebrities and the public, and ask for freedom for unvetted immigrants to sit amongst the celebrities within, with no scary armed men with guns to protect everyone, and, huh it already happened.

Hell, I was even thinking "You know, if ISIS shot up the Oscars, it would kill two birds with one stone."

... but it had come and gone with no fanfare or interest from the general public whatsover. There were no stories about it in the media, until the obvious fuckup happened. If anything, the stories are more mocking it as an example of how out of touch it is. I saw a bit of mainstream morning television (ugh) this morning waiting at the doctors, and even the morning hosts and live-via-sattelite colour commentators were yawning at how boring and pointless the whole thing was, and these people fawn with enthusiasm over people being offended over pointless crap on Twitter.

The Hollywood Creative class has no idea how irrelevant it has become after last year's election cycle. I honestly think you'd get more paid 'bums in seats' at Meryl Streep's public execution than whatever her latest movie is. I mean, bread and circuses, right? These people aren't consistently-entertaining, and can't reliably-even open movies any more, so why not charge people to watch George Clooney or Will Smith or Lena Dunham being thrown to the lions and clean up?

Except for Mel. Damn! Respect, brother.

I recently saw a trailer in the cinema for the latest Matt Damon film - (ironically) The Great Wall.
After the standard theatrical trailer, there was a brief extra segment from The Great Wall's publicity tour, whereby Damon looked at the camera to the audience & asked something along these lines :

"The Great Wall hits theaters soon. Please go see my latest film."

So they're essentially reduced to begging now with all the competition for attention from YouTube, social media, Netflix & online piracy et al.

Seacrest has been dodging rumors that he's gay for years. These accusations are the best thing to ever happen to him. Either he paid the woman to say all that or he's doing dances of joy.

Here is a video of Britney Spears looking totally confused when Seacrest spoke on a radio show about liking girls.

I quit watching this charade in 1994 when Pulp fiction lost to Forrest Gump. Thats when I there was no integrity in the selection process.

And now?

They need to change the name of the thing from Oscars or Academy Awards to what they really are...The VSO's....Virtue Signalling Olympics

Kobe Bryant just won an Oscar. Kobe Bryant, the guy who was actually charged with rape and not mere accusations, especially this year during all this #metoo and #timesup crap. The "feminists" are not happy about this.

So it looks like this award is for a pedophile film?

Call Me By Your Name

Quote:Quote:

Elio, a seventeen-year-old Jewish American-Italian boy, lives in the northern Italian countryside with his parents. His father, a professor of archaeology, invites a 24-year-old Jewish American graduate student, Oliver, to live with his family during the summer of 1983 and help with his academic paperwork. Elio, an introspective bibliophile and musical prodigy, finds little in common with Oliver's carefree and exuberant personality. Elio also resents vacating his bedroom for the duration of Oliver's stay. Elio spends much of the summer reading books and hanging out with his girlfriend, Marzia, while Oliver is attracted to one of the local girls, much to Elio's chagrin.

Elio and Oliver begin to spend time with each other, and a seductive courtship emerges—they swim together, go for long walks in the town, and accompany Elio's father on an archaeological trip. Although Elio begins a sexual relationship with Marzia and brags about it in front of Oliver to gauge his reaction, he increasingly finds himself attracted to Oliver. He sneaks into Oliver's room to smell his bathing suit and thinks about him while masturbating. During a trip to the post office, Elio subtly confesses his feelings to Oliver, who gently tells him that he should not act on them. Later that day, Elio and Oliver kiss, though Oliver is reluctant to go further. The pair subsequently grow distant during the next few days.

Take care of those titties for me.

Here is something that probably warrants its own thread or a ROK article, but I'll put it here for now.

At the Oscars, actress Frances McDormand gave an acceptance speech where she called for movies to have something called "inclusion riders" (full story here). That means filmmakers would be required to have clauses in their contracts that mandate "gender and racial diversity."

At first blush, this is the kind of thing that will look to the public like Hollywood is trying to be fair.

But this actually takes us one big step closer to the way China's government operates -- where the state controls the way artists can create. This rider is actually the opposite of fair.

When you have the state legally requiring artists to do anything (no matter how trivial), their work ceases to be art. Instead it becomes state-decreed propaganda.

This is not a small matter. It sets a dangerous precedent. McDormand is asking the government to mandate who gets hired on films. That will affect how scripts are written and what they'll say.

According to the AP story, this idea originated at the University of Southern California. It's little surprise something so draconian came from the colleges.

From the story: "The rider is "an addendum to a contract that creates conditions for more equitable casting and hiring, focused on developing a diverse talent pipeline in the entertainment industry... This contractual language represents a crucial step in eliminating exclusion of underrepresented or marginalized groups."

What comes next? Will musical acts be required by law to include members of different races and genders? Will we see a ban on old movies and music that aren't inclusive enough? This is the road we're headed down.

When directors like Francis Ford Coppola or Mike Nichols made movies, they told stories they wanted to tell and the casting followed. Had they been required to hire specific amounts of minorities and women, their classic films could never have been made.

Nichols' "The Graduate" is a film about Jews and WASPs. There is no place for minorities. Coppola's "The Godfather" was about Italian-Americans -- period.

I hope people besides me see that this "rider" represents the beginning of the end of American art as we know it.

^^^^ Wasn't she just talking about actors (and directors, etc) requiring diversity in their contracts? Like an actress saying, "If you want me in your movie, you have the hire 50% women." Or Denzel requiring 25% blacks in his films?

It won't go anywhere. There are maybe 5 people in Hollywood with that kind of clout - and one of them was Harvey Weinstein.

How about Tyler Perry movies? Can Whites demand 60% of leads in his projects to be filled by them? Tyler Perry movies would have to be 15% black, then 25% Hispanic and 60% white.

Anyone could sue everyone over tiny transgression of not representing enough Native Indians, Samoans or wheelchair-bound Down Syndrome transgender women who are not made brain surgeons.
