I'm sick of Rhonda Rousey!

I'm sick of Rhonda Rousey!

I went to watch a live WWE knock-off event in Beijing a few years ago. A girl I knew invited me and I have a rule where I never say no to trying something new.

I was blown away by how talented the wrestlers were. It was really 97% gymnastics and 3% fake wrestling.

If I had to bet money, I'd put it on these guys training a hell of a lot more than MMA fighters and the risk of serious injury being a lot higher.

No surprise - Wrestling has gone the feminist feminazi route. No sport is as good for feminist promotion than make-believe fighting so long as the people can believe how 120 pound women can smash 300 pound pure-muscle men into the ground.

Eh I'd say about the farthest they've gone feminism in WWE is making an all-girls Royal Rumble for the first time ever last night. But, anyone paying close attention could see it was much more of a gimmick than the men's because about 1/4 of the wrestlers were old Hall of Famers making an appearance to fill spots.

WWE doesn't really promote feminism in my opinion though because 95% of the girls have to be 8's and above to make it on television. Not to mention they wear make-up and sexy outfits wrestling. Plus, people know it's fake so it's feasible to see hot girls wrestling with each other, which most fans won't reject. WWE essentially plays into the guys' childhood fantasy of seeing hot girls in a cat fight or pillow fight.

As for Rousey, I think she'll be the Brock Lesnar of the women's division. A superstar for their side but I agree it'll create a divide for the women's division that they really didn't have before with outside superstars versus home grown talent. But, I do think with this Royal Rumble and Rousey's stardom, all of the girls should benefit financially with this creating an opportunity to give them more exposure. I've been casually following WWE for a few years and while die-hards love some of the female fighters, I think this year is the first they've really been excited about a big girl fight in Wrestlemania.

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.

UFC has failed if you ask me.

Pride was way better and harder.

All the good names and people worth watching UFC have long gone.

Connor McGregor is entertaining and comical at best.

Doesn't compare to when Tyson was knocking out fools into the first row.

I doubt UFC has failed, unless you're talking about just financially overvalued when it was sold.

MMA is superstar-driven. Like the NBA, only way more. These days superstars can create their own hype. Even if Pride is looking better now, it only takes a year or two for it to flip again, to the UFC or some other promoter.

One thing the UFC has, and this alone won't keep them on top or afloat, but one thing they do have is the generic trademark. To a lot of people UFC ~ MMA. They don't realize one is a type of sport, the other is a promotional company.

Talentless bitch with mediocre skills joins an organization that puts out a scripted, fake product.

Ronda Rousey is the Megyn Kelly of martial arts.

I'd still smash her through a folding table.

Make of that what you will.

Would you also smash her across the back with a folding chair? That's always popular with Professional Wrestlers!

I think she'd enjoy it, and frankly that's all the foreplay she deserves.

Rhonda Rousey's biggest problem was believing in the hype herself and changing her fighting style towards something that others did much better. IF she had relied on her worldclass Judo as some male MMA fighters do, then she might won even the last disastrous fight.

Not only that, but ever notice that WWE wrestlers hardly ever get bruised during matches? You would think that with all that beating you will see bruises but its rare when you see it.

It truly is an art and a craft. I saw an interview with Stone Cold and he said that if your opponent comes out with bruises, you aren't doing your job. It takes a whole lot of skill to do all those crazy moves and not get bruised or seriously injured.

Watch Lucha Underground, I'm surprised they don't come out decapitated. Saw a dude jump from the rafters landing on 2 dudes in the ring.

A retired wrestler I know who fought in the 80s said the The Road Warriors would leave you battered. They had a reputation for really working over the jobbers.

Rousey had knee surgery in 2014 after beating Alexis Davis. She went 2-2 in the UFC after that surgery and didn't use a single judo throw in those 4 fights. Many speculate that she can't physically do judo anymore and had to make the best of an awkward transition in style.

Makes sense, but then why spout nonsense about being able to beat male pro-boxers? I get it that she wanted to squeeze out as much money, but she should have at least given a press statement in the end about her circumstances. That would not be an excuse, just an explanation.

She was a pioneer of the sport and put female MMA fighters into the public eye.
Everyone caught up and fighters these days are too skilled and well rounded

Everybody in the fight game will have a fall. Rarely do they leave at the top. They are fighters for a reason, they leave not by choose but when their body or mind is lost. Most are not lucky enough to have other passions or hobbies and most end up coming out of retirement.

I can't believe I am posting in this thread since I know shit about her but funny story how I heard her name for the first time.
I was driving to an indoor soccer league I play with a friend of mine (cool guy, heart of gold but a little on the beta side).
Listening on the radio some sport news and MMA was mentioned:

Him: Have you seen that girl, Rhonda Rousey recently? She is a beast, she also said in an interview that in a "no rule" fight she can beat any man on the planet.

Me: What? Any man? (Not knowing who she was) Is she like some 2m tall, 150kg female bear look alike? No fucking way she can beat any man, maybe some fat loser sure but come on.

Him: No she is actually kinda pretty.

Me: No MMA girl is pretty.

Fast forward some months (or weeks) and then I hear him again talking about how this Rhonda got beat up really bad by this australian chick who apparently (in his words) took the fight more seriously than her.
I guess this Rhonda was a nice publicity stunt and as cool media entertainment with all the hype but looks like the bubble popped!

Bit of an understatement to say that she got beat up really bad. It was more like a clinic on how to fuck someone up when they had no way to respond to the level of violence being inflicted upon them. Sort of like stomping a baby kitten.

And Holly Holmes is not some huge chick either, she just beat Rhonda's head like it was a fucking piñata. Rhonda looked like she had been a damn car crash.

So to say she could "beat any man," well... Pfftt.

I'd never watch her fight, nor did I watch this particular one, but I believe you. What was really surprising to me was her cockiness to admit she can beat up any man. No one in the world, even Joshua Jackson now or Stipe Miocic (actually this guy maybe) can admit they can beat up any man in the world, it's just unrealistic.

I love watching the girls fight. The level of their competition has accelerated through the roof. There are some legitimate bad-asses in the female division nowadays, but to suggest they could compete with men is just fucking nonsense.

Still don't see a point to wat ching chicks fight unless your type is the battered woman. Their levels aren't really close to men's at all and there's no point to watching really if you're the type who likes to get ideas from other fighters when there are scores more men's fights out there to glean through. More importantly, why do we care about her anymore?

I'm not sure why this 5 year old thread got bumped. She's never gonna fight again and if she did she'd just be beaten to bits. The girls are much better now.

And I see what you're saying about watching girl fights... But, they really are much, much more technical now than they were just a few years ago. At least it's not like the WNBA where the games look like an air-ball competition. lol
