What would you do if you won the lottery

Me and Forum Members I have met about 12-13 of RVF members will be going somewhere, My treat off course, and will have a blast to the likes of HangOver.

Quit my Job and start Travelling whenever I want.

Invest about 2-3 Miliion to make sure I am getting a steady $ 15- 20, 000 in cold cash per month which will take care of my and My Family's needs.

Basically align myself with Financial and Location Independence Goals.

1. Assemble the team of lawyers, accountants, and other folks. But wouldn't give anyone power of attorney. If it costs me, i'm doing the signing.
2. set up the proper investments
3. pay off my debt
4. pare down all of my possessions to the bare minimum
5. travel the world
6. eventually homestead in a state with no state income tax, and buy a building in NYC, preferably one with a store on the 1st floor - prolly sell stuff myself, a couple of renters for the middle floors, and my unit on the top floor with roof access.

That's it.

What would you do if you won the lottery

The very first thing I would do is set up a 501c charitable organization that I controlled. Probably a church. I would contribute a significant percentage of my winnings directly to the charity to maximize the tax deduction against the winnings, which would count as ordinary income for the tax year received. I would then have this church "hire" me as a "missionary" at a low salary, sending me around the world to "teach the gospel," all expenses and per diem paid as a necessary component of job function (and hence tax-free, although running the money through a foreign entity would accomplish the same thing due to the foreign-sourced exclusion on US income tax.) Churches, of course, can also have parsonages, leaving me with a nice home base house purchased, once again, with tax-free money... and potentially free of capital gains tax treatment when sold. My low salary coupled with full-time employment for a 501c organization would yield public service forgiveness of all my federal loans, and I could probably also snag some sort of SBA or grant cash. I might need a separate nonreligious 501c for that. So fuck it. I'd set it up. The chunk I kept in my own name would go into a mixture of investments, including residential real estate in a bankruptcy-friendly jurisdiction like Tennessee and working farms/ranches (I bet some of you can guess which Ranch I would buy a parcel of...), to generate other tax breaks.

Then I would disappear.

Live where the american dollar goes a long, long way.

If I won that kind of money I would set aside as follows:

15% to be responsible (pay off debt, gifts to family, buy an upscale condo in a warm low cost US city).

10% for lifestyle upgrade (wardrobe/car upgrade/travel/party).

Everything else that isn't eaten up by taxes would be invested in the financial markets, real estate, or future business ventures.

I think the reason that you're getting lame answers is because most people on this forum grew up at least middle class. We appreciate fast cars and awesome houses but any of us that have spent a few years in the work force can attest to the fact that having some lame ass be able to fire you at a moment's notice and having to work for a paycheck to survive SUCKS. Winning that kind of money is a once in a lifetime opportunity to put those types of worries behind you, so have some fun with it but also put a good chunk of it to work for you so that you don't go back to the same average life you had before.

I know a friend of a friend who won it, well her father did and gave her $1.5 million or something close to that. She still continued working, however she became ill while on holiday. Almost died, but she recovered and has short term memory loss meaning she cannot remember the last 10 years of her life.

I am starting to dislike this middle class thing in Europe and developed countries. I would rather be middle class in brazil.

Just think that reason also why places like france and uk are bad for women is that there are large percentage of middle class people.

In places like Ukraine, you will be the one outstanding. But in paris, simply you will not. The girls in paris are all mostly working middle class, and they will not be as impressed as girls in Colombia or Ukraine. WhAt I can tell, they are more interested in arty types.Actually, I don't think 5 million usd is gonna significantly improve someone's chances with women in paris. It might do abit more if you are French.

If I won the lottery a couple things I'd do:

1) Phone up all the wealthy mentors I have and ask for their advice first before spending a single dime.

2) Bank the cheque with a private banker I've known for years and figure out how much passive income the whole amount can generate on an annual/monthly basis

3) Assuming number 2 goes well and is going to net me several thousand pounds per month, pay off all my debt. Figure out how else I can build up this new found wealth

4) Head to Selfridges and pick up a suitcase and some fresh threads

5) Buy a plane ticket and travel extensively

6) Set up an angel fund (10-20% of net worth) and start co-investing with wealth mentors I have and VCs in London

I wouldn't buy a house (already a homeowner at 25, no mortgage) and I wouldn't buy a car, could probably rent out a nice car whenever I needed it.

Sorted.

After finding the best lawyer and money manager I could to assure the protection of my new-found wealth, providing me with income from interest, I would -

1.) Move to a new place, in a part of town with better logistics and more women ages 18-24. I would still rent, though.

2.) Spend a few years travelling most of the time, to all the places I dreamed of going while growing up. Probably would spend half that time minimum sightseeing and banging my way across Europe.

I'll figure out the rest if I ever win the lottery. I wouldn't do anything too crazy, though. I don't need a new car. I don't need a giant fucking house. I don't need $5,000 suits, $10,000 watches, or any of the other high-priced shit some people spend their money on.

The only things that would be different about me would be a better living situation, not worrying about money anymore, and finally satisfying my childhood dreams of seeing shit like the ancient ruins of Rome, Machu Picchu, etc.

The only people that I would ever tell would be my parents and my brother.

I sure as hell wouldn't use my new-found wealth as a way to directly attract women.

I'd have new digs in a location with good logistics, a better wardrobe, and the ability to go out more often. That's all I need.

Travel round the world first class for around a year just having fun and observing. The set up a small angel fund and travel non-stop with the dual purpose of enjoying life and investing in viable start-up companies. If I find I don't have all the expertise to properly evaluate start-ups (which is likely) look for max one equal business-partner.

First, I would tell absolutely no one. I would take the check, uncashed and fly straight to Hong Kong or Singapore, where I would set up a private account there and deposit it there. Leaving my money in the bank in HK/SGP, I would qualify for the residency and citizenship, which is one of the most prestigious in the world. Once I have citizenship, I would consider renouncing my Canadian citizenship for tax and visa purposes. Tax wise, pay next to nothing on taxes in HK/SGP as opposed to being rapped in Canada. [Image: smile.gif]

Then, I would invest the 1/3 of the amount in a high yield fund in a developing country like Vietnam or Brasil for example. I would then send a first class ticket to my family and siblings to come join me in HK where I would have an awesome time with them. I would give them enough to pay off all their debts.

With the proceeds of the investments, I would live very comfortably, giving me the time and resources to pursue other projects, specially in China and Brasil. I would also open a school for kids in Palestine, Afghanistan, Philippines and a football academy in Brasil. I would also create a modeling agency in the Philippines, China and Ukraine to keep me busy and entertained. [Image: banana.gif]

I would attend all the sporting events that are dear to me such as football matches of the teams I like (Milan, Arsenal, Barça, Flamengo, Boca) along going see live all the F1 races around the world each season. I would take with me to each trip, the winner of each modeling context as a gift. [Image: wink.gif]

I would think really hard about investments, start a little apparel business I've been thinking about (I'm looking to file for a trademark for the logo with the USPTO), set up a nice little place to live (nothing ridiculous - just a comfortable home base), then hit the road. See all the places and people around the world that I've always wanted to. Hit up certain sporting events around the world that I've always watched and wanted to see in person. I'd try my best to keep my life simple, but enjoy as much as possible.
