I think being in a hostel is not a good option if you are approaching 30. Just out of place. Also, most hostels are filthy, and a public shower is gross.
If you can't afford a hotel, use couchsurfing.
If you are in an area that doesn't have couchsurfing, chances are it is a place where hotels are inexpensive.

I too am curious if its really that easy to hook up with Hostel chicks, I mean is everyone banging away in the same big room?

Plus, I like that fact that most guys on this forum are near my age (32) I too am shagging like never before. I usually rent an apt(as I generally stay in any one place for about a week) OR I have found most hostels have prvt rooms for not much. I never really hung out with the Hostel crowd. I can understand the mentality of the OP because I feel the same about most Hostelers that I see. I hate to generalize but its just what I see. They all seem like pothead hippies. Not judging, just observing. I like ironed shirts, and looking nice, not like I just rolled out of bed and washed my hair last month.

You dont need a lot of money either to get your own place, I am very cheap when it comes to where I sleep. I just want a clean private place. Plus I find its a LOT easier to take girls back to an apt. The other reason I like to travel with a friend, rent a 2bdrm apt and split the cost. Plus you have your own fridge etc... I know most travelers are honest, but the cop/OCD in me has MAJOR issues with worrying about if someone is stealing my shit, having to lock up everything ALL the time.

Like kindred I like to splurge occasionally just to live life to the fullest.
