You definately want to be cautious with ingesting zinc and other "supplements". Its best to find healthy foods that naturally contain zinc.

You can take a cheap 'zinc tally ' test to assess your status..buy it online.
But for an accurate zinc test get a red blood cell zinc test. It's better than a serum zinc test.

Got some 30 mg chelated zinc tablets (supposedly chelated minerals are more absorptive or something), and have been taking 2 a day for the past week, changing nothing about my usual routine. I've been waking up earlier with more energy, increasingly restless, and doing more things in 3 hours than what used to take me 8.

I am taking ZMA fairly regularly and it's improved my sleep a lot. Rather than struggling to get to sleep and waking up in the night multiple times I go out like a light and wake up smoothly in the morning. Pretty great.
I haven't had any more interesting dreams than normal (I've always had great dreams.)

People with healthy diets don't need to supplement zinc. Unless your diet sucks or you have a mineral deficiency, zinc shouldn't have any drastic effects on you.
I've supplemented zinc before and felt no difference. Probably due to the fact I was already eating enough meat and vegetables so there was no deficiency in the first place.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but on the L-OptiZinc label it says "30 mg zinc (from Monomethionine)." I've read that Zinc monomethionine only contains 20% elemental zinc, so does this mean I'm only getting 6 mg zinc from each capsule, or does the label refer to elemental zinc?

I have also started using zinc. Here are my experiences.
Since it is my first time, I have started with 25mg capsules (manufactured by Natural Wealth - they suck, so avoid that label).
Recommended daily dose was 50 mg (2 capsules per day). I followed it.
No changes.
Then, I have increased my dose to 100 mg (4 capsules a day).
Managed to lift bigger weights in the gym (the Big Three). Also, my mental focus increased slightly, as well as energy levels.
Not bad.
I will, starting from today, increase intake to 200 mg (8 capsules a day), and report.
BTW, does anyone have experience while being above 200mg a day? What were the results?

I eat raw oysters every once and a while
Also canned oysters from Crown Prince
The powder I have is NUTRABIO zinc gluconate. It is 100% zinc gluconate and no impurities. But it does not say what it is derivived from.
I do not take the powder. I think it not healthy.
Oysters are a way better source of zinc.

I tried supplementing zinc really consistently for a fair amount of time, maybe two years or so. I definitely went with the lower amounts, didn't want to go overboard. I used I think it was that 25mg tablet with the copper added in for the most part, along with a 50mg version I got from a supermarket without copper.
The effects were actually quite pronounced. Mostly boosting my sex drive to be honest. A very similar effect to what I feel drinking pomegranate juice honestly. It is a very obvious and noticeable effect. When I was taking both it was pretty crazy, didn't make it easy to not masturbate. I'd say a very slight edge in charisma and talking to women but nothing crazy. As well as a slight edge in the gym, but I could be conflagulating that with the effects of creatine or something, hard to tell. And the 50mg tablet definitely had more kick to it. I also did not take it every day, only on days I was working out or going to be spending a lot of time in public around women. Didn't want to build up a tolerance or anything, which in my experience can definitely happen with supplements.
I still supplement it, but not as often for no particular reason, I guess I feel pomegranate juice basically does the same thing and is more natural to me. I try to be risk averse and these megadoses seems unnecessarily risky. Plus supplements are meant to be taken in moderation, to round out a healthy diet and lifestyle. I definitely recommend it though, somewhere around 25-50, but not every day and making sure to keep up with copper. The 25mg amount feels kind of weak, but I took it at like a 3-1 ratio with the other to keep up on my copper intake, just to be safe. Anyway, that's just my personal experience.

I have completely stopped ZMA and only occasionally take optizinc with a meal.
I'm extremely sensitive to taking it close to bed. If I do, I experience extreme hallucinations and night terrors in the middle of the night, which really screws up my sleep. This was what put me off ZMA after taking it consistently for a year or more. Not a happy side effect.

On a side note...I have noticed that Zinc makes me...more aggressive.
Has anyone experienced something like that?

How much of a factor is zinc in keeping acne at bay?
I've gotten some harsh break outs lately. Then I remembered that I haven't taken zinc consistently for at least a few months. Of course there are other factors involved, but I've heard many times that zinc is a main one.
Wondering if anyone here has personal experience.

After having some 'performance' issues a few months ago I came across this thread. Picked up some OptiZinc at the Vitamin Store. Been taking one of those a day and haven't had any issues since. Hair and nails seem to grow a little faster but so far everything else is fine.

You're probably taking Gorilla zinc by mistake. It's loaded with Chimpanzymes and Ape-o-hydrates. You have to check the label carefully. They don't always make it clear...
