Southpaw, you'd say it is better than than optizinc? Why? Based upon feeling better, morning wood, etc? I looked up blue bonnet zinc and it does have good reviews, but no copper. Do you take a copper supplement too?

Getting morning wood more often, sleep is way better than on Optizinc and my T levels are up since I started taking them. I don't take copper supplements although I considered taking 2mg because I get enough copper from my diet.

What copper source is most common for you?

As an aside, when I first took Zinc 50 mg pills about 5 years ago (Vitamin Shoppe), within 7-10 days I had a wet dream due to the buildup of "juices"

So there's that. Obviously, over time you get used to it, though.

I get my copper intake mainly from walnuts and almonds. Speaking of "juices" this Zinc Bisglycinate will overwhelm your next date haha

Welp, I searched through tons of random threads in my Adderall induced insomnia and decided that I would order some. Stoked to see the effects but not getting my hopes too high.

Zinc Megadosing Public Service Annoucment

I've been lifting weights since I was a freshman in high school, so I'm approaching my 15 year anniversary with the gym. I've never taken off more than 3-4 weeks at a time, and I've lifted heavy (by my standards), often to failure, 2-5 days per week the entire time.

I'm just under 5'9" and about 185. You can definitely tell that I work out, but not for as long or as hard as I have. I think a lot of it is due to having testosterone levels on the lower side of the normal range. I haven't had a significant increase in strength in the past 5 or so years.

I've tried megadosing zinc before, but stopped after a few days because it made me so nauseous. I decided to suck it up and give it a shot again - I took 225-250mgs daily (4.5-5 50mg Zinc Gluconate pills) for about 2.5 weeks. Very noticeable strength results. My body is also recovering much faster, plus my general aches, pains, and injuries are no longer ruining my progress.

Pre-zinc stats

Bench 5x5 180lbs 195 1RM
Squat 5x5 245lbs 275 1RM
Deadlift 1x5 235lbs 265 1RM

Post Zinc

Bench 3x5 195lbs 225 1RM
Squat 5x5 275lbs Not sure about 1RM, but I did 295x2 after a full 4 full sets at 275. I could probably get 315 with good form.
Deadlift 1x5 265 305 1RM

I've broken a 5-year plateau and feel like I have a lot more in the tank - needless to say I'm extremely happy that I can finally participate in the bench rep test at the NFL combine [Image: thumb.gif]

Note: I stopped 10 days short of the planned 4 week megadosing cycle because I was starting to feel a little ill despite my definite strength and test gains. I felt like I was starting to poison myself so I took a couple days off from supplementing before moving down to a 50mg maintenance dose. I feel great now - I definitely advise you to listen to your body and to be careful.

Bumping this.

First time taking Zinc

1 50MG capsule

I took one a little after my lunch, I felt nauseas for a bit, then a bit tired through out the day.

Around 5 I literally shit my brains out for awhile and felt just groggy.

Not sure if anyone else has felt this way

Should I take half next time ? Should I just stop ?

I'm going to see how I feel after the gym.

I suggest taking a smaller zinc quantity, maybe 25MG or a quantity that your body can handle. Are you taking zinc gluconate, picolinate or a chelated version?

I took it again today, it wasn't as bad, even though I shitted my brains about 10 minutes after taking it.

I'm taking a 50mg chelated version, would another version be better ?

or perhaps I should take half a tablet next time

Huh. Zinc hasn't made me shit my brains out, but ZMA has (due to the magnesium). If I take Zinc on an empty stomach, it does screw up my stomach though.

I take two 30mg doses of zinc, or 60mg total, right before bed on an empty stomach. But, that's mixed with the magnesium and B6 in the ZMA. And, in that combination, it doesn't mess me up. If I up the dose past 2 pills, then when I wake up in the morning I get the squirts really bad. 60mg of zinc +900mg of magnesium seems to be my limit.

2 days in a row, I take the same pill at the same time, and I literally am dropping a duece 10 minutes later.

The shit I have, HAS been sitting my medicine cabinet for a year or so. Maybe I'll try something else.

I had a more focus and more stamina at the gym today, not sure if it's an effect of taking Zinc.

So I decided to try it. First attempt was about 3 weeks ago, I did only 4 days and then decided to quit and do it later because of my medical tests for job.

Now I am in 4th day again and I feel similar like in first attempt. But effect seems to be opposite of described. I feel weak, my limbs seem to be weaker (not while lifting, but generally I have this feeling) and I am more passive.
I am getting 150-175 mg a day. Is there chance to overcome it and feel better or should I quit?

Maybe you're taking an excessive amount of zinc and your body isn't absorbing the surplus efficiently. Keep in mind that the zinc type you're taking plays an important role here (zinc gluconate is not the same as chelated or picolinate zinc versions). A few months ago I was taking 100mg a day, but I had to stop because the horniness was causing me severe brain fog (I wanted to fuck any girl who crossed my path)

There´s not any specification on it. Just box with 25 mg pills from pharmacy store. Haha I would appreciate that effect.
I stopped today afters 2 pills (12 hours ago) and I feel much better. Before, I felt really sick. I will take only 50 mg a day.

I always take zinc (with copper) after a meal. Only had a slight nausea once in 3 months.

My body must be getting used to it, I'm not shitting myself right after anymore, I take on 50MG pill everyday at lunch now.

I feel more awake and stronger at the gym, I push through sets.

Definitely feel great - not sure if it's a placebo effect.

You've got me curious. When I've gone past 2 pills, I've gone to 4. I may try to do 3 pills, or 90mg zinc/1350mg Mg for a few nights or until I start soiling myself. In the past, one or two doses of 120mg/1800mg Mg lead to what I would describe as "express and urgent morning regularity".

Edit: For the reference, I've been right at 200lbs for a while now.

I was taking 60mg of the Now brand L-OptiZinc (30mg Zinc, .3mg Copper) once daily after either a big lunch or dinner but the other day it caused some crazy nausea and I ended up vomiting. Any of y'all experienced this and any tips to avoid the nausea? I thought the main key was just to not take it on an empty stomach.

^90mg last night + 1350mg Mg. Didn't have a problem. Slept better, in fact, because it put me out quicker. Will keep going.

Time to repost my Zinc Megadose Warning™ because guys are still trying to fuck themselves with stupid zinc megadoses, or using formulations that do not contain copper.

I'm reposting the below yet again because it looks like every couple of months someone else is trying to fuck himself over by ingesting MEGADOSES of zinc on the daily.

Take 35mg a day and use a formulation with copper, preferably Optizinc. Don't fuck yourself in the ass with stupid megadoses and copper deficiency.

Once more -- I know I've posted this before and even very recently but I'd rather repeat myself endlessly than have someone doing this wrong:

1. USE OPTIZINC -- you do not want to use a zinc formulation that doesn't have copper and develop copper deficiency. Bad news.

OptiZinc

2. Do not take more than 35mg of zinc a day on a regular basis -- you really don't need more than that. You can make exceptions for special occasions. [Image: wink.gif]

Zinc toxicity.

Abstract

Although consequences of zinc deficiency have been recognized for many years, it is only recently that attention has been directed to the potential consequences of excessive zinc intake. This is a review of the literature on manifestations of toxicity at several levels of zinc intake. Zinc is considered to be relatively nontoxic, particularly if taken orally. However, manifestations of overt toxicity symptoms (nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy, and fatigue) will occur with extremely high zinc intakes. At low intakes, but at amounts well in excess of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) (100-300 mg Zn/d vs an RDA of 15 mg Zn/d), evidence of induced copper deficiency with attendant symptoms of anemia and neutropenia, as well as impaired immune function and adverse effects on the ratio of low-density-lipoprotein to high-density-lipoprotein (LDL/HDL) cholesterol have been reported. Even lower levels of zinc supplementation, closer in amount to the RDA, have been suggested to interfere with the utilization of copper and iron and to adversely affect HDL cholesterol concentrations. Individuals using zinc supplements should be aware of the possible complications attendant to their use.

Bump after actually decreasing zinc and mag load to one pill per night after a few days.

I'm noticing a lot less sensitivity to spicy foods (something which was getting worse). I had been taking 2 pills for quite some time, probably over 2 years or more now. Sleep wasn't impacted. A little less regularity but not a big deal.

Will update if something changes. That's all that I've noticed.

Oh man I've made a mistake in my previous posts in this thread.

The pills are only 10mg of zinc a pop. I apparently can't read a damn label.

Anyway, so that means I've been taking 20mg of zinc daily, not 60mg. Sorry if that misdirected anyone.

Ramping down to 10mg I did notice a difference. But, the data set is small. I will continue on my reduced loading and see what happens.

Kaotic, switch to L-optizinc immediately bro. You will not regret it. Chelated zinc is inferior for several different reasons which have already been mentioned by others, but to add to that it also made me much more nauseous and gave me the stomach problems you describe.

Also, I really don't like taking zinc in the daytime during my working hours. It just carries a certain level of physical discomfort. Now I like to take it during the night time about an hour or two after dinner when I know my stomach has food in it. Furthermore it is said that you produce the most testosterone during your sleeping hours, so I feel better knowing the zinc is dissolving in my stomach during this time.

EDIT: 600 posts, ive gone from chubby chaser to wingman yeaaaa

So 10mg of zinc and the lower mag that comes with it has worked out quite well for this week. I probably get enough zinc in my diet, but that pill is very helpful for sleep.

Will try a ZMA fast soon to see what happens.

After scouring this thread. I decided to buy some 10mg zinc tablets. Been using them once a day for about a week and a half and have noticed a big increase in libido. It feels great!

I was taking some pills for a couple of months for eliminating acne. However I noticed that i completely started to lose my libido and being 20 years old, This felt very strange..

Since Taking the zinc tablets. My sex drive is back like it was when i was 16. Just today I mowed the lawn for a single mom neighbour of mine. Her cleavage was driving me crazy and all I wanted to do was go inside and fuck the shit out of her. Havent had these kind of sexual urges since I was like 16/17.

Tl;dr
Zinc is great. Im horny
