Many of you may have heard of the recent Pussy Riot trial. The other day I was reading a Guardian article on Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, the "alpha female" of Pussy Riot, and this passage caught my eye:

So, what is this art collective Voina (война)? What orgy was that? Some say there was no intercourse. In any case, there's a video online, and it is really, really fucking weird:

So, let me see how this works: Miss Tolokonnikova gets pregnant at 17 or 18, gets fucked on tape at 18 while 9 months pregnant, and then gets arrested at 22 and eventually gets sentenced to two years in prison, leaving her 4 year old child alone to be taken care of by her father. The Western media is portraying her as a sacrificed heroine. She looks like a nutcase to me, though.

It would be just awesome if their antics were just restricted to that.

A couple were actually funny, like painting the skull and crossbones on the State Duma building. Others were just juvenile, like painting a dick on the St.-Petersburg drawbridge (though one of Russia's state arts organizations bizarrely gave them a prize for that).

Unfortunately, some are just nasty. Like the performance in the cathedral. Or when they threw a live cat at McDonald's workers to "celebrate" Labor Day. That is arguably assault and certainly animal cruelty; certainly it has fuck-all to do with improving the position of the proletariat. Other actions were unarguably criminal, like overturning police cars in their "palace revolution" performance. Their head got 3 or 6 months for that as I recall. He'd have almost certainly got more if he'd done that in the US.
