It is a very common birth defect. Sometimes can be treated with drugs, sometimes with surgery. I would think in terms of diagnosis, an ultra sound, EKG and/or X-ray (CAT scan) would let you know if something was up.

I'm pretty sure most pediatricians in the USA check for this stuff while you're growing up, but I could be wrong.

Yeah. Looking at your article, we see

"He said the doctors told him that because your heart rate is so low, when you're older you may need a pacemaker to make adjustments on that," said Joe Shay, adding his son first was diagnosed with a larger than normal heart at age 14.

The doctors cleared him for competing. Shows how little medical science knows

The Zyzz mystique comes largely from the fact that bodybuilding.com and 4chan are filled with ubernerds who live their lives vicariously through other people.

Not to say that Zyzz was unimpressive, because he wasn't, but anyone who can provide pictures and shout out memes on youtube is promoted to legendary status amongst the viewers, and any pictures of you with a girl means you've experienced something that a lot of them never will.

Zyzz was extremely wealthy. Ever see the mansion he lived at?

Even if you don't include his family's money, he was also an exotic dancer. My cousin who started out as an exotic dancer and bodybuilder was a multimillionaire in his early 30s.

Too bad he died about at 22, from steroids and other drugs??? Who knows?

First of all (this is to everyone) there is no evidence Zyzz "died from steroids." Jesus Christ that phrase makes me cringe.

Zyzz was found dead in a sauna in Bangkok in the morning. The Thais diagnosed his cause of death as cardiac arrest.

Zyzz was on different types of fat burners like T3 and Clen, some people said that on his formspring he had mentioned using coke before. I mean he is a raver.

I spent a lot of time in Korea where saunas are popular, and I can tell you that drunk people often wander into saunas, fall asleep in them, and never wake up. You dehydrate yourself and die of cardiac arrest (both hyperthermia and dehydration cause the heart to stop). Its possible that Zyzz died because he was drunk or on drugs and passed out or fell asleep in a sauna. He could have also been given drugs (it is Thailand). He could have further increased the risk of dehydration, cardiac arrest, and overheating by being on fat burners like clenbuterol and T3.

When I think about the circumstances of his death, all of those things are more likely than atherosclerotic plaque caused by low HDL at 23 years old causing a heart attack. The possibility of that is just so remote. The first thing I am likely to think, just based on probabilities (there are about zero deaths from steroids every year and tens of thousands from alcohol) is that a person intoxicated in a sauna likely died from the drug that kills people with a much higher frequency. If you find out someone is using steroids and alcohol, you should probably warn them about the risks of alcohol. Then you should warn them about the risks of driving an automobile. Then you should warn them about the risks of getting struck by lightning, shark attacks, etc.

Also, the level of certainty some people can have about the health effects of certain medications without studying them at all just astounds me. It seems a lot of people are very certain about something they have read very little published scientific research about. If someone were to ask me a question about nuclear physics, I would not pronounce a strong opinion because I am not well read in that field. Yet some people in this thread think they are perfectly entitled to their "opinion" just because they have an emotion. All I have to say to that is, "You go girl!" #YOLO #Embrace.your.emotions

We're in a domain of men here. Either discuss things scientifically or don't commit to a strong opinion.

Obviously there are benefits to using some juice in order to attract women and compete in various sports, but other than that I can't see the obsessive need for them.

I'll probably give them a try by running a small dosage of testosterone and seeing what happens to me. This probably won't happen for a little while, but I definitely want to try it someday.

AFAIK, he died of a congenital heart defect unrelated to any steroid use.

One of my good friends is a young doctor. One of the things I've learned from him is that if you're born with a congenital heart defect, then you should never lift weights.

Apparently, weight lifting with a deformed heart can kill you. I guess in order to lift your heart must be in perfect condition or else it can be damaged from pumping so much blood through your veins during a big lift. This is well documented, and that's probably why Zyzz died. Had Zyzz known about his condition, he could have avoided weight lifting and done something else to get into shape, such as swimming. Regular cardio doesn't affect the heart like lifting does, because while the heart does work harder for cardio, the heart is pushed much much more in short bursts with regular lifting.

Funny how no one talks shit about lifting being dangerous, and instead people blame steroids. The reality is that regular lifting is ultra dangerous if you don't use proper technique, and have careful examinations by your doctor before you start.

Steroids should be the least of a lifter's concerns.

What would be your doctor's take on push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups, then?

Shit, I should get my heart looked at. My pulse rate and blood pressure has always been a bit low and I smoke cigarettes.

Those are fine. The exertions my doctor friend warned me about specifically involve heavy weights.

Regular cardio, moving your own body weight around, sports... all good. But squatting 2x your body weight with a heart defect is dangerous.

Does the danger come from the body being under the pressure of external weight or that the body is involved in a heavy complex movement? I do bodyweight exercises and although I don't have a large amount of weight on my chest when I do a one-armed pushup, my arm is still pushing about 130 lbs. I ask because most people associate bodyweight exercises with stuff like pushups and pullups for muscular endurance.

There are 2 types of cardiac hypertrophy. One is increasing the volume and the other one the thickness of the wall.

Anaerobic training (lifting fits into here) increases the wall thickness (how hard the heart can pump) and aerobic training the size (how much the heart pumps in one beat.

A healthy heart needs both. A lot of weight lifters are neglecting the aerobic training. You can fix that by 2-3 training session per week where you keep your heart rate between 120-150 for 45-90 minutes (start at the lower end, work yourself up). What you do doesn't matter, but swimming or cycling make it easy to control the pace.

That's kind of what I figured. I thought about doing viking warrior conditioning (basically high rep kettlebell snatches) since I don't have easy access to a long stretch of pavement to sprint on. Burpees probably wouldn't be a bad idea, either. The only thing I'm worried about with that would be overuse injuries.

Did you even read what I wrote?

Anaerobic work will only make this worse. You need to do long slow distance, the kind of conditioning everyone is hating on nowadays.

Just do a jog or a bike ride. If you can't shadowboxing would probably work as well. Just keep the heart rate in the right range for 30-90 minutes.

My take on Zyzz is that he did a great job of social media marketing to become a minor-celebrity, something Roosh and others have commented on the importance of. Given his untimely death we'll never know if he was just a flash in the pan or if he could have leveraged his rep into more lucrative pursuits, movies/tv shows/endorsements, the way Arnold did. I doubt he could have gone nearly as big as Arnold, but he also had a lot of advantages as far as free social media outlets that The Terminator couldn't have dreamed of 40 years ago.

There's a downside to having your physique be your main calling card, but unlike female actresses or models, Zyzz could have kept his physique excellent for 10-20 years, and by then would have capitalized on his early fame so as to make it less critical to future success. I liked his Bodybuilding Bible, not sure I'd pay $60 for it, but you can find it free elsewhere.

For a 23 year old I give him credit for much more success than 99.99% men his age. I've got a lingering feeling though that that the reported congenital heart defect wasn't the primary or only cause of death. The falling asleep in the sauna while drunk theory sounds more plausible to me. Perhaps then the heavy partying is what was his undoing.

If you can regularly and reliably gather a few bros, basketball is another good option. Even a decent 2 on 2 half court game can get a good flow going for a while, and you can play several in the course of a 90 minute period.

I'd also invest in a good jumprope for some light work at home. It is a simple, easy way to get some decent cardio in. You can bring them anywhere and they're cheap.
I'm going to grab one before summer is through and store it in my dorm. I don't get enough cardio at school now that my football days are over.

Bodybuilding is first to me, but I love basketball too. I definitely don't consider bodybuilding a sport, and there's so many things you can learn from getting good at a sport. I would highly recommend that to supplement/complement lifting. It's a good advantage being way stronger than everyone else too [Image: smile.gif]

I don't know the specifics, you should ask a doctor if you want 100% solid info. But what I learned from my friend was that heavy lifting involving 70% or more of your total muscle mass at once puts a lot of stress on your heart. Your heart has to pump a shitload of blood at once to keep the muscles functioning and if you are born with a heart defect you can cause a blood vessal to burst.

Obviously you should contact your doctor and see if your heart is healthy, but I'm almost 100% certain that all pediatrics check your heart while you're growing up.

This is the first I've herd about the guy and like other Man crushes, drones of Men develop on the internet to worship a false prophet. I suspect this man is nothing but a chrasmatic closet homosexual like Greg Plitt. I remeber the thread on Greg Plitt and how man creamed them selves on his Army brass and phsyque yet the man was never linked to any females and most likely hitting more fudge then sticky walls.

Men respect and honor other men whom are physically and aesthetically superior to them because we understand the effort and handwork involved reaching these goals. This is why men idolize athletes and such because we respect the work that was put in to get these rewards...

"Bro he's jacked and in the army and is aesthetic perfect he must get toooooons of puuuuusy"

But the rewards are fantasized by us because we *really* don't know. We assume that the rewards and fruits of these labor are women, money, power. But the truth is it may be one or even none of these as the time and effort to go ... above the threshold .. actually limit how much of these rewards a man can attain. There is only so much time/resources in the world that one can use at one time and devoting so many to one thing means that you will have to pull from others.

Now onto ZYZZ...

I sadly live in Toronto one of the most homo and gay friendly cities on earth and Zyzz looks like the the Sunshine kids that go to Extreme Fitness. If he would up the way he did in to Tdot Rainbow boys would be fighting over him and dragging him to the Gay village.

Its nothing about being 'free' and 'not giving a fuck'. Its simply the bombastic and over the top scene and culture that Gays frequent.
People especially Young men and net-nerds get things twisted because they know very little about these scenes and sub-cultures. I have been exposed to to much of this non-sense in my dealings with other sub-cultres that intermix with the gay-culture from dealing with swinging clubs and BDSM. Also from research from school and shit, I have been exposed to too much of that lifestyle then I would like, but this has given me perspective on shit.

This man displays 99% of the characteristics present in highly entrenched Gay/homosexual men.

Since we have been discussing the mis-information of Steroids and its culture cats need to step back and look at other mis-conceptions that ZYZZ was dealing with.

Like Roids the Gay culture is a lifestyle choice that though is not illegal is frowned upon and not a social norm. Its a sub-culture that only those whom have studied, partake, exposed, or are flat out in have real grasp on it. Theres a whole bag of worms you don't know about people living on other sides of the spectrum and sadly ZYZZ displays all the classic signs of it.

I have a theory which is called the 'treshold wheel' and its a wheel in which male and female attraction comes together or repeals... Since females are not 100% asththic or near the high levels that Men are there comes a point where a Man can be to "perfect" astheically to turn of women. Other factors intermix, thus why we study game to help build sexual attraction between men and women and thus only homosexuals look for and desire asthically perfect males. This is why Gay men typically have more testostrone, built physiques, larger penis, and carfully crafted and perfected looks and style. It is because men are visual creatures and to attract the men in thier treshold they must be as close to asthcially perfect as possible.

On the opposite end more butch females take on more male traits and place less emphasis on their looks. Men pay attention to how they look but not the same and manicured way females do. Ultra butch fems look like slobs and yet some how pull the most feminine lesbians.

I am just digging around on this dude. All I see are pictures of him kissing or making out with average women. Women that I a normal man is easily capable of getting. Even in godforsaken Toronto. How can I a regular joe be getting equal or in some cases better quality tail then a man whom is Rich and has a godly physique?

^ That was extremely awkward.... he looks extremely awkward with that petite female.

"Brooo he's not giving a fuck.. that his style"

Naw....

Zyzz is Gay

You ever wonder why men cream over these 'characters' more-so then women?

Looking at those pictures, I'd say that Kosko is into something. The dude looks completely disinterested in all of the women he poses with. He's mostly staring off into space. Also, there's a goofy look that gay guys get when they're pretending to be interested in women (look at some old Ricky Martin videos) and this guy has got it. Even the ones he is kissing, something looks wrong, like he's almost kissing them on the cheek. Not to mention, in all these pictures, there's a bunch of other half-naked dudes hanging around as well.

I've seen enough behavior from closeted dudes to suspect that zyzz was one of them. By the way, I got no problem with the gays, so this is not a put down or anything.
