Didn't you ask the same question in the canadian oil thread?

I'm assuming you want to invest in some oil companies operating down there. Just consult finance and O/G websites for that.

Holy crud that is some bleak news for Weatherford. Irishman you ever been out on a well where they do wireline logging? In my two years on the rigs I only saw one. With the horizontal drilling that side of the business is dead... impossible to log horizontally for the most part.

In mid 2012 I was getting emails from heavy hitters like Calfrac for solid FSR jobs, probably starting @ $30 hr, or over. Fast forward to spring '13, and the only companies that were responding to my search was shit companies wanting me to work on Xerox machines or Halliburton for $15 hr. Fuck is wrong with these people?

Things have slowed down, and two guys I know up there never moved into better jobs, and their hours have been cut to shit. They are stuck in a rut. You can still get a good job, but need to know someone. In my professional opinion, look to the GOM or W Texas to cash in on the front side of those booms.
It has definitely not slowed down man. Live a few hundred miles away with a lot of friends working there. And there is still a lot of untouched land in the Bakken especially on the MT side

Things have not slowed down...(unless you mean the feb thru april slow down due to weather conditions) I am here in ND now. You just have to put alittle more effort into getting a job, because word got out about the boom. I just wish I knew about this field at 18. There is serious money to be made. If you have the fuck it mentality...u can do well. I mean retire after 3-5 years of work money... Is it cold, HELL YES!!! but remember everyone here has the same grade skin as you....so if a large number of people can bare the work/cold so can you.

I am still new and learning ALOT!! I like my job and company now! But the owner of the company just told me that, my talent level is wasted if I stay in the job function i'm in now. He rcommended some jobs to me I didn't think I would even be considered for. I will make a kiler data sheet for the AMERICANS.. and those who wanna come here. I will answer every question I wish I knew before arrival and how you can get started here WITH a job, from day one. I am still gathering data.... So STAY TUNED!!!

Willingston, North Dakota was recently listed as the most expensive place to rent an apartment.

Even more expensive than NYC and LA, it's crazy up in there.

My friend from Dallas, went up there to work.....they're definitely hiring.

Texas is paying just as much with a fraction of the cost of living, better weather, and access to puss. I'm seeing jobs in my skillset, with companies begging, between $32-$37 hr. That's topping out at 5 stacks a day. More specialized experience is paying a big $5K per week not in ND, and housing provided. You read that right. I got two friends making that and I should be on board next month. Show me the money!

The only way to make any real cash in ND is to get to a mancamp. My friends are struggling at paying for their families on top of a $1K per month room up there, and $7 for a jar of peanut butter, and insane airfare several times a year. Fuck that noise. Go to Texas and live on monster $8 burritos that makes two meals.

Houma, LA
Morgan City, LA
Odessa/Midland, TX
Hobbs, NM
The west side of PA (Zanesville)
Williston, ND or The Rockies Region
Erbil, Iraq
Basrah, Iraq
A lot of jobs will be listed out of Houston, as that hq to a lot of companies.

From what I'm hearing, W Texas is what ND used to be, and a lot of companies are hiring on the spot, including Cat. I've seen $21 hr for mechanics helpers (experience preferred, not mandatory) on the SOS Staffing website. You can get a decent hotel out there for ~$60 a night while job searching. Google job fairs Odessa, and lists will come up. That is where you want to land, then spend a couple days walking into offices passing out resumes.

North Dakota will suck away your soul. Ask La Fista.

Lol. I forgot to put for TX, as I would be WAY more down to go to TX than ND as TX has the foods I like and use to eating (Mexican; Californians can't survive without Mexican food) and it's way more closer to Mexico; go hit it up there when I'm on leave. I'm considering my options as the best thing to do now is leave California and head off to other fertile grounds.

$300 for airfare
$300 for room
$270 for rental
$70 for food
$30 for gas
---------------
$970 for 5 day trip

This is enough time to hit all the temp agencies here.

And to hit a hiring conference.

Realistically you can do all this in 3 days, and save a little cash.

If I go, I'm bringing along a mate with me, and we both agreed to equal expenses. But we are still a while away before leaving. I need to bank some reserve and some other stuff. And my mate is going to be busy until 2015, same as me.

Things are heating up in Lake Charles, LA. It is the next boomtown.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Know too that ND is the end of the world. Once there is no coming back. Until your anus has lost all elasticity, like the waistband of a 10 yr old pair of Fruit of the Loom's. Companies are used to spending a lot of resources and months getting you there, so don't plan on transferring after you've "done your time in the trenches". Keep that in mind if you start with a heavy hitter like Baker or Weatherford. You have a better chance of getting overseas or better places starting off in the GOM, or W Texas.

I always look for contract jobs first. You are only committed to a few months at a time, and get a break afterwards. Headhunters are another way to bounce around w/out looking like a job hopper. And that is a good way to get different experiences too.

Make sure you double and triple your numbers. Salary doesn't mean shit. It's what you keep in the bank at the end of the month. A friend of mine was offered a 14/14 schedule, but had to decline due to the high cost of flights. He would have broke even every month, and couldn't afford hotels on those two weeks off. These jobs are black holes that will suck out soul. Everyone is stuck without the money to move on, or just quit. Attitudes are shit, and everyone is working 100 per week. You are beat down on the two weeks off and don't feel like looking for another job. Fuck that. I've been there.

If I had 2K sitting idle in the bank right now, I'd be packed and driving westbound and down by lunchtime. But I got connections and a lot of experience on a resume and shooting from the hip.

Looking into fracturing right now. I am in with Weatherford and the need equipment operators. If you got a cdl you should be here. 20hr starting, 2 weeks on and one week off, 80-100 hours a week. When you are off, you can still work in the shop.

Money is out here. Weatherford.jobs Odessa and Midland equipment operator.

Weather is better than ND and shot is blowing up. Business should last for the next 20 years. Easiest way to get in is thru Trican aka trashcan. It's the KBR of west Texas oil. Shitty stepping stone. My bro worked with trican for six months and realized why they are called trashcan. He is in San Antonio now making more with less stress.

Need any more info ask away.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

I posted some in the 'usa oil boom' thread, but this one seems to have more interest.

http://www.gibsons.com/Careers.aspx
http://mbaconstruction.net/
These last two have entry level positions. http://mechanicalinnovation.net/content/careers
http://www.deltaconstructors.net/about-u...ities.html
this last one has the 'pipeline laborer' spot, perfect entry level job, because after the boom, all the lines that were installed in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s will need to be rehabbed/replaced. good luck
