O.K. now, I love being on this forum, it's invaluable, but some of the things people write, and argue about, are infuriating. It's the primary reason I post very little.
On the one hand, folks should word things better, on the other, they should stop this pseudo intellectual B.S.
I would have changed this paragraph slightly to:
I think it reads better like this, please don't think I'm being an arse, I actually agree with you...
Now, here's the reply...
This response just makes no sense. The guy was simply remarking how you'd be surprised how easily a Northern Spanish guy etc. COULD blend in whilst in Germany... The point he was trying to make was that not everyone is fitting an Aryan superman image in Germany, and nor is everyone in Spain or Portugal dark haired and tanned... You don't have to intellectualise it so much...You also don't have to read everything literally... I totally understood the point being made without having to resort to an argument.
At the end of your paragraph, you say there's hardly any Scandinavian/German heritage in Southern Europe... I find this a slightly odd statement given the Norman expansion into the Med. especially on Sicily... Corsica, and down into Southern Italy... and on to Cyprus... I'm not saying it altered the gene pool for the fairer, but, if you're splitting hairs, and you clearly are... You can't ignore this.
While I'm on the subject, let's not confuse Celtic and Scandinavian.
Oh, and being one of those funny mixed race "britishmen" I can tell you for a fact I look no different to anything else walking down a street in Berlin. A bit like those funny light skinned Spanish guys from earlier... Jeez...
Apologies for thread hijack. I just get bored to death with this race stuff...especially when it's us white guys essentially comparing shades of sun tan... yawn

Guys from PT, ES, IT can look more Northern European than some German guys. There's a lot more Germanic and Scandinavian heritage in the northern part of these countries than you'd imagine.

Not really, there are some celtic blood in northern spain/italy and for the most part those fair types in spain/italy, etc look like the other countrymen but just with lighter pigmentation. The exception might be in some areas of sud-tyrol that used to belong to austria but were anexed to italy (hence germanic speaking italians). There are hardly scandinavian/german heritage in southern europe.
A few of those light spaniards might somewhat roman/celto-germanic mixes like britishmen, northern french, wallons, but they wont pass for "very" germanic looking groups (scandinavian, dutch, northern germans etc).
Anyways we are talking about averages, and on average you can always spot the southern european group of guys walking down anywhere on north of alps and west of france.
