The great majority of athletes, musicians and actors (arguably the crowds that gets the most non-gold digger groupies, fame > all in USA) depend on the masses for their coin and popularity, without bringing anything culturally significant to the table (who will remember todays popular music in a 100 years?), or enriching others in the process. It's an evolutionary bug. It also produces hordes of guys who tried to be actor/athlete/musician, and maybe had some golden years of poon before they were stuck at 25 in a studio apartment on the wrong side of the tracks with heavily impaired future prospects.

I grew up in Europe, and the dynamic really isn't like that there to the same extent - Sure famous guys get their share, but it seems that women grow out of the groupie mentality when they are 18, and have the self insight to realize that a) they can never keep these guys b) the famous man will laugh at them behind (and even in front) of their backs c) depression will come after the sex d) greater-beta types will shun them for life if they get to know one such story.

It's really hard to trump fame. Money, looks, game, power, etc. all seem to take a back seat. I've seen how fame works first hand, several examples:

1. College basketball players. When I was in college, very well known player who is now in the NBA was at a frat party I was at. He got bored and said he's going home as I was standing next to him. He literally said "Any girls want to come with me?" Two girls jumped at the chance, he put his arms around them, and jumped over the patio with them.

2. My friend works at a well-known sports agency. He is not the agent, but the agent's second-hand guy that takes care of all the athletes, takes them around and out, etc. So he's developed good friendships with a lot of them. A few NBA guys came to his bachelor party in Vegas, and it was ridiculous how girls just threw themselves at them. We had a cabana for a pool party and girls nonstop in our cabana topless. And these guys were not even that famous.

3. Ironically, player in story #1 became good friends with my friend in #2 through the agency. So now in the NBA, he actually was an usher at my friend's wedding, taking girls into their seats. The girls were completely blush and basically like "Oh my!" And these girls were married, had bfs, etc. Nothing happened, but you can tell they were excited at this.

4. This girl I went out with a few times was a legit model (sadly never banged her). She was telling me how her one model friend is a starfucker. We were watching the NBA playoffs and she couldn't remember the name of the player her friend just banged recently. Finally she goes..."Lebron something? He's a real slut I know several girls that slept with him."

5. Roughly 10 years ago, my ex told me a story about how her friend left a party after meeting K-C and JoJo and going back with them and fucking them both.

Even on a microlevel, fame is powerful. I've never been on TV or anything else that has gotten me any attention. The closest I ever came was back in 06, where I won a beerbong tournament at a party. You missed the point. Of course all women are hypergamous liars. The men who came before us knew that and they warned us (e.g. the allegories in the Bible). Religion served for a long time to control humans' worst instincts. But the promise of eternal punishment after death no longer works.

What does work? Well, physical and psychological violence do work. Shaming and ostracizing cheaters also works. If all fails, public stoning would do the trick. It all boils down to two questions: a) what is the collective goal?, b) what cost is the collective willing to pay to attain the goal?

I agree to an extent, but western culture (ESP American "culture") really worships celebrities, that's why douches like Mike "The Situation" can make millions and pull groupie chicks with no problem.

Shit, I even remember watching some lame MTV real world's "after show" where they sat down and interviewed the cast members on their lives after the show aired. Some douchey guy on the show who wasn't particularly cool or handsome was saying how girls would approach him at bars and how easy it was for him to get laid.

I really don't see this phenomenon playing out in most countries in the world. Using Jersey Shore as an example, when they filmed in Italy for a season, none of the guys pulled any local Italian chicks, simply because there fame didn't translate over there. Now I'm sure there are a handful of famous Italian soccer players, actor, or musicians who kill it off their fame, but I doubt their culture idolizes and worships celebrities like they do here in the U.S.

I don't think anyone here is saying that women would not like a night with these guys, that's why I referred to "Impulse control". Either by the woman herself or enforced through the rest of society (which is about 1000 times more efficient).

So my point was a) that the average American girl has horrible impulse control, and that it's slightly better in Europe on average, and b) this stems from remnants of social shaming. Part of this is related to people not moving around so much. If you stay in your home town or close to it your whole life, hanging out with your friends from middle school throughout your adulthood, throwing yourself at celebs you meet randomly is not the best life plan. OF COURSE this still happens, but the tendency is less.

I'll try to explain my reasoning better in any future posts I make.

In response to Icarus' examples.. it's the "famous for being famous" aka "Tucker Max fame" that is rather unique to modern American society. The other example of fame either relate mostly to power (pope, philosopher, party official) or skill (starcraft 2 player). I guess you can argue that being famous takes "the skill of selling yourself". Breeding with powerful men or men skillful in key areas is an evolutionary win, so it should not be constrained or else you end up with men without ambitions. But now I feel we are beating a dead horse that's been discussed to death here and other places.

Agree 100%. There's a lot of Western bashing here, god knows I'm on that train, but in this case I think it's global. How many scandals with foreign politicians do you need to read about to confirm this? It's unfortunate that in the age of rapid fire media these men are demonized to no end and the repurcussions are far more grave. The glory days of men with status aren't what they used to be, apparently. How many sports figures and politicians have had to pony up millions of dollars, and in some cases lose their position just because some pussy, sometimes literally, got thrown at them and they took the bait?

In my own field, it happens with chefs too. A friend of mine got his girl swooped by Eric Ripert, a famous (and good looking) chef. Jean Louis Palladin was notorious for his circles of girlfriends, and that dude was ugly as sin (though an amazing chef).

I think that's the healthy approach. Personally I wouldn't be worried about some celebrity swooping my girl. If she ditches me to get banged by him, good riddance. There's plenty to replace her.

I think this sums up game in a big way. Don't get attached. There are too many variables in todays world to trust any woman 100%. It's been said here before: LTRs require game. These dude's wives and girlfriends MIGHT not have gone begging for some celebrity cock if his game was tighter, if her attraction to him was greater. There's no way we'll ever know.
