Have any of you tried to juice Cabbage?

I may try tomorrow.

Yep. Green cabbage, lemon, and an apple is pretty delicious. Good for stomach ulcers, too.

I just made this, curious on juicing cabbage.

I initially put in several leaves, but that wasn't enough, so I put in the whole cabbage. The cabbage is strong but it's still nice. I might try adding carrot next time.

When I got down to the core, to make it manageable I cut it into chunks with a knife, as opposed to wrestling through it with your fingers.

You get about 1 cup from a whole cabbage.

Nice.

Just did cabbage, one carrot, one lemon and half an apple.

Real solid.

In my experience the best juice for men's sexual health is carrot, cucumber, beet. 16 oz. 10 oz carrot 3 oz cucumber 3 oz beet. Always does the trick for me. It's pretty much all I order.

Did you juice a whole lemon? I usually juice a lot of things together, coming out with about 2 cups at the end. Last night, I threw in a lemon, and felt the final product was a bit too sour for me.

Damn. Just killed my juicer.

It was all the leafy veggies (parsley, kale, etc) I am sure. I could always hear it struggle.

It sounds like the bearings, so I might just pull it apart and have a look. It was the Hamilton Beach. Lasted over a year so cant complain I guess.

Do you guys use travel mugs to carry your juice? The one I am using is turning orange.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Pomegranate juice boosts testosterone.

Yeah, mine was struggling. An Omega juicer is expensive out of pocket all at once, but it saves money because of the long warranty (between 10-15 years) and because it gets way more juice out of kale and other leafy greens than a centrifugal juicer (about 3x as much).

Do you juice your own Pomegranate juice?

Or just buy Pom Wonderful?

I make mine fresh with an Omega juicer. I don't see any reason Pom wouldn't have similar effects.

I also have frozen pomegranates that I blend into green/berry smoothies.

Juicing tip:

Don't try to juice Wheatgrass.

It is too small and passes right thru.

You can kind of wrap it in Kale or something but it doesn't work too well.

You need a special Wheatgrass juicer for Wheatgrass.

An Omega juicer will handle wheat grass.

You can also try this tip, which i use for parsley

Unless you can find a glass container that you can carry and not spill, it will stain. I use a glass pitcher to save half of my juice for the next morning in the fridge. Any porous material like plastic is going to stain.

I store and carry my juice in this:

I have a variety of sizes. Somedays I take one full of green tea, another full of juice, and of course my morning oatmeal with blueberries, or a fruit smoothie.

I love glass.

Wouldn't fresh be better? The frozen sounds good.

Flash-frozen fruits and veggies retain a lot of nutrients and in most cases, are less expensive than fresh produce.

Wonder if any of you fly with your juicer/blender, particularly internationally? I'm wondering if the blades would present a problem for airport security, even with the new relaxed rules?

I wouldn't think it an issue if you check your luggage.

Yes.

Also, in many cases, frozen foods have more nutrients.

Frozen foods are harvest at the peak of ripeness/freshness. They are immediately frozen and put into "suspended animation." Nutrients are not lost.

However, "fresh" food loses nutrients in transit to the grocery store and also loses nutrients while sitting on the shelf.

Unless you're picking stuff from your own garden or shopping at the farmer's market, frozen foods on average are more nutrient dense.

Question -

I have a Breville centrifugal juicer. It does OK with greens not great. Sometimes it seems like it is very small particles of kale in my juice. And the output is very nominal for the amount of leaves I put into it.

Is the masticating much better for juicing greens? Flavor? texture? and output?

I paid $200 last summer for my Breville but I am considering getting a masticating juicer if it makes sense.

Yeah, I may purchase a Nutribullet for travel since it is significantly smaller than my Vitamix and is only $99. I figure it would pay for itself in the long-run by cutting down on the amount of money I spend eating out or purchasing juice drinks when I'm away from home on travel. I would probably pack the blade, but carryon the rest to minimize the chance of damage.
