Health: Juicing

I started juicing. Can't say I noticed any positive effects, but pretty sure there will be many in the long run. The only thing I noticed is that I started craving more juice. I make modified V8 replica:

Tomato
Celery sticks
Carrots
Spinach
Kale
Ginger
Lime

Would recommend adding ginger and lime to your juices as it adds interesting flavour and lime reduces oxidation.

I agree on the ginger and lime. My recipe is similar except I use 2 apples instead of tomato and I add a cucumber. Kale, not spinach. How long have you been juicing? For me the first few days were a cleanse, after about 2 weeks I had more energy, my eyes were super white and my skin looked super healthy.

Just 1 week.

I made one today.

Added way too much ginger though. Had some serious bite. Feel good.

Do you guys peel the ginger or just throw it in? (so to speak).

I just throw it in. My first few juices I used a small piece of ginger - think pinkie knuckle size. I am now used to the bite, and use a thumb size piece of ginger.

Cool.

Yeah, I used three full thumb sized pieces.

It was a live wire.

You should ditch the tomato and try the apples. I can imagine that the tomato clogs up your juicer and is a hassle to clean. My juice is GREEN.

Tomato works just fine for my juicer and it is a relatively inexpensive juicer.

For guys interested in this, which do you think is better - juicing or blending? My impression was that juicing gives you more nutrients and more carbs, while blending gives you less nutrients, but more fiber, also blenders are usually easier to clean.

Also, for those who juice regularly - do you find yourself craving/looking forward to juices? Usually I have juice in the morning and in the evening I am already looking forward to drinking the juice in the morning.

I honestly don't GAF if some guy saw some Joe Rogan video or have an opinion about sugars.

Whenever I post, it's only about things I have personal experience with.

I don't guess, go off second-hand knowledge, or make stuff up. I do something and then offer my experiences and thoughts.

So......Who juices?

I've been juicing for a few months, and the biggest thing I've noticed from it is what a great pick-me-up it is in the mornings. Have a juice for breakfast and you are awake without all the coffee bullshit.

Not sure if this is scientifically true, but I've also felt my skin has been better. Usually in the winter my skin gets worse and I get zits, but since I've been juicing, this winter I've been doing pretty well. Not perfect, but better, for sure.

I prefer juicing over blending. My understanding is that the body has an easier time absorbing the nutrients in that form. I can't say that I have seen scientific proof of that. Yes, my body craves the nutrients and everytime I have a juice I feel great. As for blending, fresh fruit smoothies are one of my favorite treats in the summer.

When I am juicing daily I wake up like a 1000 watt light bulb. Usually it takes me a few espresso shots to get the mind and body going. Not only does juicing make my skin look healthier, my eyes are whiter also!

Juicing makes your eyes whiter an skin clearer I just watched a documentary that pointed out these things.

Any one on here ever done the detox where they only drank juice for a week or 10 days or however long?? Im thinking of doing it around the first of the year. Like the guy in Fat, Sick, an Nearly dead... Altho im not fat at all... seems like a healthy thing

**Very Important Shit**

Whenever you start juicing or go straight to a cleanse you are loosening toxins in your body. Make sure your bowels are functioning properly before you begin juicing or detoxing! I'm surprised that there is not more mention of good and frequent bm's as maybe the most important component of good health practices.

All the great, natural healers such as Dr. Christopher, Dr. Schulz, and others say the first step to good health is dealing with your constipation. Ideally, the healers say that you should have a bm shortly after every meal. So, if you have three meals a day, you should be taking a dump three times a day.

Dr. Christopher and Dr. Schulz absolutely say that you should not be detoxing and juicing until you get your bowels straightened out. They also say that the consistency should be like "soft-serve" ice cream - um-um. This is why people that detox and juice frequently feel sick when they detox/juice because the toxins are circulating instead of being moved out.

I myself take his formula every day and man, am I a happy cowboy! I get the formula online at http://www.herbdoc.com. Dr. Schulz is the real deal and made his bones curing the incurable, including himself, here in California.

So, if you want to feel great like I do, get those bowels working, especially now during the holiday season, when we are all eating and drinking way too much.

Don't be like the old me. Learn from my past bad habits. I got a ruptured appendix the day after New Year's 15 years ago. That scared the "shit" out of me. I was on an eating and drinking binge for two weeks straight. Now I feel great, unlike most everyone else my age (50's).

If you were my buddy and we hung out in person...I would tell you not to do that. Why put your body through that unless you are a total fat fucking piece of shit and need to lose 20 lbs. The first few days I "juiced" I spent enough time in "the office" and felt adequately detoxed. My personal philosophy is to use juicing as a supplement to an already healthy diet and lifestyle.

I recently purchased the Philips HR1861, it got great reviews and won some awards so I thought I'd give it a whirl (as the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth is not available in my country).

It's around $80 so not too bad and is easy enough to clean.

What do you guys do with the pulps, do you have any good ways to use them or do you dispose?

I put some in my oatmeal this morning...didn't taste too bad. I thought maybe you could put some pulp in with your salads?

Also I loaded up with the juice this morning before I went to the gym -

Lemon
Celery
Carrots
Apples
Oranges

I felt like I was wired, it felt great! Although I put in too much lemons so it kinda soured it.

A friend did it. He felt miserable during it and did lose some significant weight since he was basically starving himself. He put it all back on quickly afterwards.

Why not just try eating super healthy instead? No sweets besides fruits. No fried anything. No processed anything.

Hell, maybe go veagan for a week and see how you feel. At least you'll still be able to consume protein and fats.

Can't see the sense in a diet like the juice cleanse that tells you not to eat an avocado...

I happened to coincidentally purchase a juicer just before this thread got bumped a couple of weeks ago. Bought this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002OK...03_s00_i00

Guess I got a good deal because it was $100 more a week later. Went for a masticating juicer because I have read it's better for greens. In general this style is better for hard produce, and tends to clog up with soft stuff like pears. I have been juicing approximately 2 16oz glasses per day using any combination of the following:

apples, pears, lemongrass, beets, pomegranite, carrot, orange, grapefruit, ginger, radish, parsely, chinese brocolli, cilantro, red cabbage, cranberries, kale, mustard greens, turnip greens.

Within 3 or 4 days certainly noticed improvements in skin, sleep, turds, body of hair, and most evident was the improvement in the condition of my cuticles, and no more hang nails.

Pomegranite cures the taste of anything nasty you put in there, so I would say this is the most essential ingredient thus far.

I'm a little nervous about the machine because I can already tell it is wearing, making some noises and such. Hope it lasts.

I am also very lucky to have the best produce market I have ever encountered close to my house. I usually purchase around 40 pounds of produce for about 40 bucks, and that lasts me for about a week and a half. I think if I was buying the same stuff at whole foods it would be 180-200 bucks.

For those of you who are time constrained, with the clean up and chopping, it does take anywhere from 15-20 minutes to get a 16oz glass of juice, but well worth it.

I have been juicing since Christmas. I noticed that I tend to waste a lot of food and spend a fair amount of time cleaning. I'm going to pick up a Nutri-bullet to see how it compares. I'm hoping this will make food go farther, save time and allow me to make almond milk.

I've been experimenting putting sweet potatoes in recently. You get quite a lot of juice out of them but they're kind of bland tasting.

They're good if you want more volume and to feel fuller after juicing.

I'm a juice addict now. I juice 2-3 times a day. I can't get over how good it tastes and it's great for you. Not really a bad thing to be addicted to.
