Another thread prompted me to write up this datasheet, as I'm always happy to give whatever limited knowledge I may have to this board. Feel free to ask any follow up questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
So I moved from LA to OC in 2004, and have been living in OC ever since. I spent 2004-2007 in Huntington Beach, and 2007-Present in Irvine. I've gone out a LOT these past eight years, with the caveat that I did not venture out too much past the cities I specify. Also, I had a girlfriend from 2006-2010, so that limited my out in the field experience somewhat. Luckily, I like to drink so I still went out a good amount.
Transportation:
Get a car, only means possible. No real reliance on public transportation. Also, cabs are fucking expensive. I never understood this as it encourages drunk driving and the prices are set by the County. Minimum 50% more expensive than cabs in LA.
Accommodations:
Depends what type of life you want, how much money you have, what type of girls you are into, etc. I'll go into more detail in the city-specific portions. There is everything from the ritzy beach cities to the shittier inner cities to the world's most predictable and organized city.
Apartments and homes are generally cheaper here than in LA, and you get more for your money. Of course there are exceptions (parts of Newport, Laguna, even Irvine). But overall you can get a bigger, newer nicer place in OC than in LA for the same money.
Girls:
Just some general thoughts on an OC girl. Overall what I've found is that it is not hard to find one that is DTF. The asian ones are mostly all slutty. If you have the "look" for the blonder surfer tattoo girls, you could pull easily. The sophisticated rich girls put out a lot too. Young girls are in Newport and other beach cities. There is a decent amount of diversity overall in OC, but they tend to segregate within the actual cities. Lots of Persians/Asians in Irvine, lots of white people in the beach cities, etc.
But living here and going to LA here and there, LA wins in quality and quantity. Girls in LA are just hotter – they care more about fashion, they spend more time on themselves and their appearance. Maybe it's just the type of girl I like, but LA girls are more attractive to me. OC girls also tend to look more fake and outside Newport sometimes dress like sherpas.
An interesting thing I've found recently is that a lot of OC girls in the cities I do not specify below live at home and are rather horny. Maybe it's living at home with family that makes them rebel, who knows.
Huntington Beach:
Moved down here in 2004 and left in 2007 for Irvine to be closer to work. I will say that my info is dated accordingly, and from what I've heard Huntington has become a lot more racist/skinhead/trashy than before. But oh man, was it ever a slut factory for the years I lived there.
The main night spot is Main Street in downtown Huntington. There are numerous bars all within a few blocks of each other. Girls are mostly white girls, beach bum types, tatted up chicks, hot surfer girls, etc. People are drinking all the time, and it especially goes off at nights and weekends. Summertime is absolutely ridiculous, have girls in bikinis walking everywhere, etc. The negative about summertime though is it attracts the inland empire crowd, which is usually ghetto.
This one bar called Hurricanes was effectively responsible for my entire sex life for almost a year. At one point my roommate and I would go there 3x a week. Had a dance floor and everyone would get hammered, great place. There are so many bars though that it is hard to go wrong. Fred's Mexican Cantina is great for Taco Tuesdays. There is Killarney's, Crabby's, Beachfront, and more. All are within walking distance and it's easy to bounce around.
Lots of slutty girls in Huntington, but beware it attracts the fatties too. Summertime Huntington is something special, come down to the beach when it's warm and your head will spin. But as stated it's a trashier type of place so not the place you want to mouth off or you will get into a fight. Also, the HB police are not to be fucked with. They don't mess around.
If you want to move here, the closer to Main Street you are by Pacific Coast Highway the closer you are to the action but the more expensive it will be. But you are a quick cab ride away as long as you stay in zip code 92648 and I found that moving further away did not impact my game at all.
Newport Beach:
Hands down, the best part of OC in my eyes. Hot girls, not that trashy, college crowd that parties, lots of bars, restaurants, etc. Newport is a lot bigger than people think who haven't been there. You want to live in the Peninsula if you are there to game. Tons of college girls that go to UCI, beach loving girls, etc. A common saying between our friends is that guys move to Newport and never leave. Girls who hit 25 move out because they can't compete with the younger girls. Again, this is in the Peninsula and not other parts of Newport.
For the Peninsula, tons of bars. Malarkey's is a college type bar that always has good talent and gets packed. Rudy's across the street is hit or miss, but people get sloppy here. Lots of USC type folks. Ranchito goes off on Tuesday in the summer for Taco Tuesdays. There is a Sharkeez here but it's pretty trashy. Woody's wharf has the sorority girl crowd on Thursday nights. Lots of other bars too, will have to go around until you find one that you like.
The beach itself is worse than HB or Laguna in terms of crowds. But it's more relaxed and nicer in a sense.
Other parts of Newport are the back bay (useless), by the airport (two clubs – Posch and Ten are there; decent but can get overpopulated with Asians/Persians), Corona del Mar (older chicks move here [25-35], but are generally pretty slutty), Newport Coast (where Kobe, Vanna White, etc. live, very rich but no real game opportunities). Lots of Cougars in Newport outside the Peninsula. Go to Corona Del Mar if you want to game some of them. A dinner at Gulfstream or Bandera on a weekend night and you will see Cougars galore. Another trendy spot is Javier's on PCH in Newport. Again, you are talking about richy rich girls. I've never gone to hit on a girl there. There is a bar at Fashion Island called Muldoon's, but it is a yuppie crowd. Sex can happen from here though.
Irvine:
Welcome to the most ridiculously comfortable, easy and boring city on earth. I moved here to be closer to my job and I had what I thought the girl I wanted to spend a long life with. Well I broke up with her a year ago and Irvine really has nothing to offer the single man. First, everything closes at 8pm outside restaurants and few boring bars. If you wanted to go out in Irvine, just forget it you already lost. There is literally nothing here worth doing.
Next, do you love Asians? Because that's what almost all of Irvine is. Literally you will never comprehend the level of Asians an American city can have until you come here. I live near UCI and you would think having college girls walking around all day in California would be great. Nope, they are nerdy Asian girls that ooze as much femininity and sexuality as a fat opinionated chick with short hair on her period.
But the City is extremely central, has an airport right in it, is very close to Newport for going out, never has a single pothole in the roads, and every store you can imagine is within 5 minutes driving. Also lots of jobs here. If you do want to move here and are renting, I would suggest the Village in Irvine. It is run by the Irvine Company who rules OC, has a very large young population and many social events for the residents. Lots of cute girls live here too. It's not cheap though (1400 for a studio, roughly). But it is walking distance from the Irvine Spectrum, Irvine's biggest mall and one of the bigger malls in OC.
There are only two places that you can even consider going out at night in Irvine, and this is if a bomb hits all other cities and you have to limit yourself to Irvine. First is the District, which has one night time bar – The Auld Dubliner. It's rarely ever good, really ugly people go here. Second is the Yardhouse at the Spectrum. I don't see how many people pick up here though as it's mostly a date place or for the arrested development early 20s folks that want to just keep hanging out with their high school buddies at night.
Costa Mesa:
A neighbor to Irvine and Newport Beach, Costa Mesa would be my second recommendation on where to live after Newport. Cheaper than Newport, it has a lot of bars itself and the only mainstay club in OC. Some night recs are Sutra (only club, but populated with Asians and Persians), Goat Hill (extremely bright bar, but sluts frequent this place), Memphis (restaurant that turns into a mini club, very hipsterish), Scott's (only Thursday nights, other nights it is an upscale seafood restaurant), Mesa (upscale lounge, very LA-ish, actually got a ONS from here on Friday). They built a new 24 hour gym there and apparently a lot of hot girls go there now.
Housing is a lot cheaper than Irvine and Newport, and the girls here are rather cute and fun.
Laguna Beach:
Further south than Newport, it is pretty nice. Never lived here though. They have a few bars that are fun – Ocean Ave on Tuesday nights has 80s night that sometimes attracts really hot white girls. The beach itself is really nice and gets very crowded on weekends. Lots of nice places to take a date too, overlooking the water, etc. Girls tend to be white, rich and artsy.
Other Cities:
Tons of other cities. Generally, the more north you go the more asian it gets. The more south you go the more white it gets. The more east you go the more ghetto it gets with some exceptions (Anaheim Hills). But nightlife lacks in most of these places with the exception of Fullerton, but I've never gone out there. Again, it depends the type of girls you like. If you love Asians, well then stay in North OC. If you love Latinas, Anaheim and Santa Ana may be for you. If you want the blonde slut, beach cities.
Daygame:
Best spots would be the beach during the summer; South coast plaza pretty much anytime, maybe the Irvine Spectrum though that's generally populated with families and high school kids, Fashion Island which is another mall.
Overall:
Irvine is wearing me down. And after about 14 months of going out all the time, I'm getting a bit tired of Newport, which was my destination 95% of the time I went out in OC. But it is a very nice place, very clean for the most part and Newport Beach is really awesome. Costa Mesa is my spot to take dates to, it has a lot of eclectic places that are cheap and if you play the hours right, can get some good deals to make cheap easy dates out of it. You can have a great time living here. Just know that it will never beat the "traffic" that LA gets in terms of opportunities. If I have 10 options on where to go on a Friday night in OC, I have 60 in LA.
And that's what got me thinking of moving back to LA. I'd move to NYC or out of the country in a second, but my work is tied to California. So LA is my next best bet. Hope this helps. Happy to expand on anything or answer any other questions.
