Any small remote location in Asia.

Go to any ASHRAM. Google for them. Allow you to Detox with light food, do some meditation (clear your mind) and recharge yourself for work.

The vulcanic lake and yellowstone bigger sister Lake Toba on the Indonesian island Sumatra. Its dirt cheap and the surrounding environment is amazing. I don't think you will spend more than 400 dollars a month on just basic accomedation and food.

Good call, I'm considering going there myself in a couple months for similar reasons.

Any other suggestions for Asia, ideally with beautiful scenery, internet access (for work) and sufficient quick and delicious food options? I'm also considering the following places, if anyone has any thoughts on them:

- Pokhara, Nepal
- El Nido, Palawan, Philippines
- Lesser known Thai islands (e.g. the other Ko Chang)

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

Belize is cool. Laid back country. Beautiful beaches. My family is from Punta Gorda which is the southernmost town. Been there about 12 times. 7000 people in the town. Local talent is meh. The accent might get you though haha. Exchange rate is 2 to 1. Gas is expensive as hell but your in Europe so probably the same prices. It's pretty hot and muggy but you get that ocean breeze. English is our language. I havent been in a few years but shit dont change.

Cool spot to just chill. You have the cayes, caves, and jungles to hit up when your bored. I think you would be able to relax and stay away form the lizards for a while.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

I've been to Pokhara in 2008, its very very touristy but i'm sure you can find quiet spot in the area. Nepal is amazing.
El nido is also a touristy spot( been there in 2010) but also here you can find quiet islands.
same goes for thai islands(been there done that)

Basically, it easy to find quiet of the beaten track location in south east asia which are dirt cheap and still within an hour of a big city. wifi might be hard to find in a village but im sure there a internet cafe just about everywhere.

Malaysian Borneo or Sumatra in Indonesia are good options. There's some places like Lake Maninjau in Sumatra that are really quiet and somewhat remote.

If you really want to get away from it go to Mongolia, Tajikistan, or Kyrgyzstan. In the summer you can find a lake or camping area and be literally in the middle of no where living in a yurt tent with semi-nomadic natives.

A few years ago I rented a houseboat on Dal lake in Srinagar ( Kashmir - India ). No women, zero tourists, zero distractions. Great spot for a writer to get away from it all. You can stay on board these great houseboats decorated in the style of English country houses for $20 US a day including meals. The place is stunning too. You sit on your porch and little boats paddle past selling essentials: coffee, chocolate, opium, marijuana. I had a nice time : )

Oh,there is a war going on but out on the lake full of Kashmiri charas and opium you tend not to think about it too much.

If you want EU then I would say a great little town in north Catalonia is Tossa De Mar. Out of tourist season you have the place to yourself. It is a stunning little town with windy streets,a castle perched on a hill, medieval buildings and a nice beach. You can stay cheaply out of season. The brat pack and hollywood used to stay here there in 50's and 60's and for good reason. Along all that coast are great deserted beaches, even in summer, where you can snorkel and explore pretty much on your own. I spend my summers there sometimes recharging my batteries before the winter FSU season begins.

I think it would be the kind of place you're looking for.

Anyone have suggestions for a nice (and safe) place to chill out and get some work done in Peru, preferably on the coast or near water? Or really anywhere in Latin America reasonably accessible from Lima. I'm only familiar with Mancora, but its too much of a tourist party town and not really what I'm looking for.

Someone said Bay Islands in Honduras. Thats a good place, but if you are staying long term for working reasons you probably need some confort and some decent internet, both scarce in those islands. The diving there, in the other hand, is excelent.

Guatemala city could be a good option. Its really pleasant. Also, Granada in Nicaragua.

You're best off taking a woman somewhere remote, if you guy by yourself then you'll get too horny and it will be a waste of time

You can bang her a couple of times a day, she can pick mushrooms while you write your books.
