Breakfast recommendations?

My diet is fairly on point except for breakfast. I usually have a bowl of cereal (granola or whole grain cheerios) with almond milk. Sweet and satisfying but it's not doing me any favors in the belly.

I'll do eggs/bacon/protein every once in a while but I just can't do savory meals early in the morning. I also don't do oatmeal, tastes like cardboard.

So, any suggestions?

If you can't do savory in the morning, you're pretty much screwed. My advice is to learn to love savory in the morning. This is your chance to eat lots of delicious eggs.

Failing that, better to drink a protein shake and snack on eggs mid morning than to keep eating cereals. They are more or less waste calories (over simplification, but broadly true), unless you're looking for cheap extra calories to fuel performance based training, which by your own admission you are not.

Stop eating breakfast cereal. I dont even consider it food, just industrial product for suckers.

Sounds weird AF, but it works well

Mix
Greek yogurt
Oatmeal
Coffee
Chocolate protein powder

You can make a week's batch beforehand, and it tastes like a mocha pudding. You want it to be a little dry (feel free to add psillium husk). It tastes delicious, is filling as fuck with 400ish calories and 55+ grams of protein. Plus it has caffeine to start you off (espresso works even better if you have access to it at home).

The reason to make it on the dry side is because you'll eat it much slower, feel more filled and be incredibly thirsty. I'll naturally feel inclined to have 3+ glasses of water while eating it over the course of 10 minutes. I'm normally a fast eater as well

You can also adjust portion sizes and just use it to supplement other foods throughout the day

I use Fage Greek yogurt (6.5 cal per gram of protein) various protein powders (5 cal per gram of protein) and Quaker oatmeal. (20 cal per gram)

You can substitute Oatmeal entirely with husk to lower the calories, just make sure you have time to shit lol

This sounds really nice, but protein powders give me acne. Might get some anyway and do it for cheat meals once or twice a week.

banana oatmeal shake
yogurt and nuts with a bit honey
beef jerky
peanut butter snacks (with crushed almond, oatmeal and flaxseed powder)

I don't have time for bacon and eggs in the morning. I mean, I do but I don't want to get up earlier.

Yeah it's easy to make, cheap, and tasty. I was struggling to eat 6-8 eggs in an omelette, but this goes down really easily.

skip the oats, and bread.

2 cups of vanilla greek yogurt, mix in 1/4 cup of cashews or almonds. easy 30g protein that can be eaten really quickly. if you're working out that day, also eat a a banana or orange to get some carbs in.

when i'm doing a "mini bulk" i like to make a shake. 1 cup whole milk, 1 scoop whey isolate, 2 tbsp peanut butter, dash of honey. should be around 50 g's of protein right there with enough healthy fats to keep you satiated until lunch.

wash it down with green tea with ginger and honey or some coffee with whole milk.

for breakfast on the weekend my favorite is: 3 slices of bacon, 3 whole eggs (scrambled and cooked in the bacon fat) with spinach mixed in, and 1 cup of white potato hashbrowns cooked in olive oil.

i also always take my supplement stack in the morning as i've noticed it gives me more energy throughout the day (could be just me though). 1 multivitamin, 5 g creatine mixed in with my tea or coffee, 4 capsules fish oil, 50 mg zinc, and vitamin d3.

Steel cut oats (according to carb intake) with:

-Gochi Berries (two table spoons)
-Chia Seeds (teaspoon or 2)
- Table spoon of Coconut oil
- Agave Syrup or Organic Honey (for sweetening if wanted)
-Dash of milk

Mix that shit up and you have yourself something amazing.

Egg White Omelete (amount depends on your protein breakdown)

Start your morning off right with that. You will not regret. Top that off with a good coffee and you are fucking set.

Since I'm on keto, breakfast for about the past month is the following, prepare your arteries:

2 - 3 whole eggs with cheese, cooked in butter or bacon fat, often mixed with peppers, spinach, mushrooms etc.
3 - 4 pieces thick cut bacon (today I had liver sausage instead)
3/4 cup whole fat greek yogurt or cottage cheese
Fish Oil pill

Green Tea or decaf Coffee w/cream

This is great if you want to stay full all day, and not get hungry two hours to lunch time, all while reducing body fat.

As you can imagine, great for jobs that require a lot of physical exertion once you get over the initial sluggishness of keto induction.

Definitely harder in the gym though since my body is running on <30 carbs a day.

I'm one of those Paleo people, here's one of my favorite breakfast options because of the quick prep time and how filling/tasty it is, not to mention being clean and protein dense:

Microwave Fritatta (or omelette, call it what you want)

In a wide, shallow bowl whisk up 3 eggs and add ingredients to taste. Today I used:

3 eggs
1 cooked chicken breast (diced)
3 raw mushrooms (diced)
Handfull of spinach or other leafy green

I also like diced tomatoes, the canned ones from Whole Foods are good and cheap or you could go fresh. Almost any veggie or meat will be good in this and of course season to taste after with sea salt/pepper sauce/etc...

Mix it up well and make sure the egg coats everything and microwave for 3-4 minutes depending on your microwave. Prep time this morning was about 3 minutes (I had the chicken in the fridge from cooking earlier in the week) and I put it in the microwave so it cooks and cools a bit while I'm in the shower.

Side benefit is minimal cleanup, no pan like with an omelette.

I thought I'd revive this thread for healthy breakfast ideas since I got a little bit of shit in another thread about eating English muffins and bread. (Paleo Nazis!)

I also do often eat plain Greek yoghurt, fruit, whey, and eggs. I easily get bored with eggs and sometimes find them unappetizing unless paired with sausage or bacon. And I'll add some preserves or jam to my yoghurt when I'm tired of the plain stuff.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

It depends on your goals but if you're going to eat carbs isn't it best to eat them in the morning?
I usually eat oatmeal+berries+peanut butter+protein shake on the days I train and eggs on days off. Also sometimes I make some sort of pancakes, mixing eggs and oats with a little bit of cocoa powder in a blender then put that in a pan.

Like the OP I also struggle with savory food first thing in the morning.

My usual breakfasts are reduced sugar fruit/nut muesli with milk/protein powder OR oats with crunchy peanut butter and sweetener, sometimes a banana too if I'm feeling crazy.

Both are quick to make and a good dose of protein, healthy carbs and fat.

Rolled oats make me sleepy and peanut butter tastes too good / is too calorie dense to eat while dieting.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

I gave you shit.

Why?

You eat low quality bread!

White bread = Sugar = Fat!

Your choice in bread is contributing to your belly fat!

--

Strive to eat a higher QUALITY bread !

!00% whole grain, sprouted grain, whole wheat, etc.

There is even "bread" made from almond flour, coconut flour, sprouted wheat berries, etc.

Try them with turkey bacon, avocados, tomatoes, brown rice, potatoes, toast

Again, you use low quality jam!

It's filled with sugar and preservatives.

Use fresh fruit + honey!

Kedgeree is a pretty good breakfast. Fish, rice, spices, egg. I often eat kippers and mackerel for breakfast too. With a hardboiled egg or two, and some tomato, perhaps on a piece of toast - delicious.
