What's the average age in Ios during summer? Is it really young in the sense that a 30 year old guy could feel a bit out of place?
A tricky thing about the Greek islands is that the scene can change quickly from year to year, and even from month to month. For example, I've read that you shouldn't go to Ios in August because it's flooded with thirsty Italian guys (that's the month they take off for vacations). Also, girls from different countries will be visiting depending on the month or week. It's directly related to when and where the travel agencies are selling cheap tourist packages for, and this can vary a lot.
Yeah things can be interesting on Greek Islands with regards to what's cool now (or was) could be totally an uncool sausage fest.
I've only been to Santorini & Mykonos on a Mid-Sept (after peak season) several years back because my tickets were so cheap.
Santorini Mid-Sept - After peak season, but Fira (Thira) being main tourist center is still popping. Casablanca Soul and Tropical Bar were the great spots with many memories. Finally pulled my final night there, but had some issues with close calls the days before.
Beaches were too cold by then & a good foreign employee working in Santorini said I missed out on the horny Italian chicks from August being the most expensive peak month. The nature tourism was still great since I rented an ATV and the main city center still was full of gals looking to "find themselves" (dtf). Santorini is marketed as the romantic place for couples, but I found the single women there to be of a higher quality appearance & personality wise & therefore more vulnerable.
Mykonos Mid-Sept - I went to Mykonos after Santorini when prices were much lower. If renting a car, scooter, or ATV...I'd say this was an island probably better for couples while it is marketed as a party paradise for singles. Beaches were still warmer than Santorini slightly after mid-Sept too.
Upon arrival, the quality of women dropped as there were many fatties surprisingly & super thirsty dudes. The nightlife in the main city area (Skandi Bar) sucked too as all the parties at say Paradise beach died out after the peak season.
Maybe it's bc I visited after Mid-Sept opposed to August...but I hear Mykonos isn't as popular as it used to be.
At least from my experience, Santorini came off as a better place to simultaneously follow scenic trails & chase tail. I could honestly do without chasing tail in Mykonos (more thirsty dudes overall with $$ prices) while I thoroughly enjoyed the trail there.
Still want to visit Rhodes one day though.
