Why make this artificial choice?
Why not train both?
1)Supposedly women are attracted to V shape of your back and biceps is the easiest muscle to display. But if you think women do not notice the awkwardness of over trained upper body and weaker lower body then you are deluded. Also more then to visuals women are attracted to real strength, that comes from legs. Pick her up like a feather and carry her 10 stories up to your apartment - she will feel desiring to surrender to you. You will need strong legs for that.
2)Upper body is easier to admire in mirror but if you deep down know you have a weakness, like weak legs, your self confidence will suffer too.
3)More then strength itself - it is balance that is vital for your health.
4)Longevity is the same as health.

Upper body is most important for aesthetics but don't dismiss legs as you will look a fool.
I train 4 times a week; one of which is legs and shoulders.

Chicks dig the chest and arms.
If you skip leg day, just wear loose leg jeans until after you secure the bang, then it doesn't matter.

I'm 43 now, but I was 39-41 y.o. when I went from 195ish to 220, all of it muscle, lifting 3-4 days a week, and eating hella protein. Body fat dropped from 15-16% to approximately 12-13%. At that point I pulled back because, well, mission accomplished. I do mostly athletic stuff now, including HIIT body weight exercises, rowing machine, sprinting, soccer, swimming, etc. But each week I still hit 1 session upper and 1 session lower.
Funny thing is, during those two years, I never focused on peacock muscles like bicep and pecs. I was laser focused on lats, traps, glutes, etc -- you know, real strength. So now I've decided to get peacocky and do pretty much only bi, tri, and pec workouts before summer rolls around.
from 195 to 220lbs with 13%BF and you still don't know what attract women?! Come one dude...

1)Attractiveness to women: Upper is way more important for chicks in general, but having a decent booty will help. I would tell you to training everything chicken legs always suck, even more if you are really jacked.
2) Self-confidence: it depends on you. I would feel comfortable with nice upper and shitty legs
3) Health: Training, in general, is good for your . Legs in particular do help with testosterone levels (not that much but...) and cardiovascular system
4) Longevity: Training help with that, dont really matter if yo do train legs or not
ADVICE: train legs bro. At least once a week hard. Feel proud of ur discipline and hard work.

Upper body is obviously important, but legs matter too. I didn't used to think they mattered much, but I went on some training recently through work and the bloke leading the training was a triathlete. He was wearing shorts and his calves and quads were really well developed and the girls were gushing over him. His upper body was lean and toned but not nearly as good as mine, but I felt a bit insecure because my calves are awful, and my quads aren't on that kind of level either. Definitely stepped up the quad work after that.

Interesting responses.
BTW the question wasn't personal for me -- I've always had strong legs and train them regularly. Soccer player here.
My thoughts (according to number)
1. Women look at legs and butts. Women look at arms/chest. It's impossible to generalize. So trick question, lol.
2. Upper body confers greater confidence, if only because it's closer to our face. Also we can't see our butts in a mirror.
3. Overall health: both.
4. Longevity. My theory is that LOWER body strength becomes more important as we age. Elderly people need strong legs both to remain mobile and to prevent falls that could break a hip and end their lives prematurely in a wheelchair.

Over-simplify it. Do what keeps you going back into the gym. Then once your going to the gym regularly, do what you don't like to do. For most guys, upper keeps them going in, lower is what they do because they know they should do it. If you don't feel like doing lower, then don't. But you should.
Don't kill yourself with legs if you hate it, because it might make you not want to keep lifting.
But...don't Over-simplify it. Some guys need to do lower body because they have no ass and/or skinny legs. I don't have this problem. I can get away with skipping leg day and doing just upper and look good. You know who you are.
As you get older, make sure you're doing lower...squats really. That's why I do squats. Not to get bigger legs, or stronger lower body. I do it because I know it's important as I age for strength, bone density, balance, flexibility (I don't know of a simpler way of a complete hip stretch).
Kinda what Unikorn said.

Legs are your biggest muscle group... and therefore the most important to train... no question about it! If you're short on time... Training legs like a maniac, and throwing random sets of other bodyparts will most likely give you a better and more appealing physique than to skip leg day overall!

I've been doing this program for the last few months and had good overall results:
https://www.t-nation.com/training/the-be...al-lifters
Just one set of legs exercises a day. I usually throw in another set of lunges or wall squats or something like that, just to make sure I'm getting in enough, and I'll admit that my legs aren't developing as much as my upper body, but they're not atrophying either, so this could be a good program for guys who just hate legs and normally skip leg day altogether.

highest testosterone production occurs with leg exercises. you need to do them to max your hormones and how your body uses calories

I prefer nobody
How about both? Just doing leg day is fucking retarded and you won't look good. No girl is going to look at your huge legs and give a shit, especially if you have the upperbody of a 3rd grader.
Just doing upperbody is equally retarded.
You can't bench, press, row, or do any super heavy upper body movements if you have weak legs. You'll cap on what you can stabilize and support.
Also, they synergize. People who train both lower and upper body are just overall bigger.
There comes a limit though. I sometimes cut back on legs when my inner thighs start to chafe. I just don't see the value in quads so large you need to wear a kilt.
if my legs were at that size I would probably squat a little less and focus more on details.
I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Gotta disagree with you here, sure they like muscles but ever since getting my mid section even the slightest bit chiseled girls have reacted to it far more than arms/chest.
Funny thing about having a defined mid section (doesn't have to be washboard abs) is that its about 90% diet. If I eat healthy and just take long walks through the snow, I can get my body fat down to a chiseled mid section after a couple months.
