I think the hullabaloo stems from the fact that this is a pairing of - to Western eyes - the most diametrically polarised demographics there are. A white or black guy from the Western world doing this in EE or Asia would barely rate a mention - hell, you probably would barely call that game.
Echoing a few other posters here, SE/East Asian guys pairing up with white girls do happen, even in the Anglosphere, let alone wherever Asians have settled. They're not necessarily ten a penny, some places it occurs only enough for it to turn heads, but it happens.
Which brings me to my substantive: The reaction on this thread, and elsewhere, to this story because its a backlash against the Asian guy stereotype, especially in the Anglo West. The nerdy, goofy, asexual, trope typified by Ken Jeong in GQ. To a lesser extent, that has resonated amongst men in China, already suffering from relatively scarcity with regards to the gender imbalance, having to compete with Western men for their women in an open market. Hence the AM/WF pairings end up coming under fire from both white and Asian circles.
I'm going to open a can of worms and suggest that the form reflects such attitudes somewhat in Asian men not getting as much love; contrast the runaway post counts of the Black guy travel threads with the much smaller threads for Asian men. That can be justified somewhat: Black men (as with white), while being naturally more gamey, do show more concerted efforts on RVF to better themselves and strike out for greener pastures than Asian dudes.

At the end of the day though - the nerdy, socially goofy Asian guy stereotype is really just that these days: a stereotype, and a niche at that. I've really noticed that Asian guys who hang out in white or mixed race circles, who are socially-adjusted, and generally give a shit about their skin colour can and will clean up with white girls. I think Asian parents, say whatever you like about them, are pragmatic enough to realise that social intelligence and being well-rounded are more important than rote-drilling you on maths homework and violin practice, especially the more affluent ones.
I used to blame race as an easy scapegoat myself back when I had beta, negative game. Having big racial hangups from my family rub off on me (they're far from left-wing though) didn't help matters much. However if the sort of effete traits that make Asian women desirable are the ones that desexualise Asian men, adopting alpha traits - confidence, lifting, risk-taking, having a dominant character - really propel you into a niche amongst Western guys. I've noticed white women becoming much more receptive to me once I've started working on those traits - even the supposedly out of reach blonde jockette types.

On to my point about incredulity from the Asian side, my parents are disbelieving of the fact that I can have my way with white women - I think they're still labouring under the delusion of innate white-on-Asian racism. Thus they've concluded that I'm either using baller game (I don't) or I'm hitting some yellow fever, Asian-fetishised niche. The truth is women respond to alpha traits from whatever race, and the social nous to deploy them where appropriate. Even if some women are more reticent towards other colours, that'll factor in any demographic.
Above all, this guy is basically living what we espouse on RVF, he's escaping (relative to his background) a pussy wasteland and finding feminine poon in greener pastures. Agreed and lots of it, more than anyone cares to admit. When I was 19 I banged this 18 year old girl who was a freshman in college. The next night my roommate banged her. That post absolutely nails it - the reason why this guy's story is so viral.

You have a 17 year old girl (I repeat 17) who WILLINGLY went into a LTR with a non-billionaire man. She is happy with having a child, being a mother and cooking in underwear for her husband.

Sure - we might even think that it is a good PR strategy to be so frank about their lives - such publicity might net the man good business options and maybe even some model gigs for his young wife.

But aside the point - she is HAPPY - I repeat - HAPPY while being very hot and very young.

Who REALLY want a lot of fast bang with annoying sub-quality girls who can only talk about Sex and the City?? Sure, some guys are destined players and will live that lifestyle, but most men are not. I suddenly have an overwhelming desire to return to Eastern Europe; I haven't been there since December 2013. If I spoke Russian and/or Ukrainian fluently I would probably start a course at a Ukrainian university. Has anyone in Ukraine noticed an increase in people speaking Ukrainian after the conflict in the east started? My Russian is basic but I would have absolutely no motivation to learn it to a conversational level if Ukrainians suddenly stopped speaking with exception perhaps of visiting Russia for an extended period of time but that's only if the rouble remains at its current status.

Mostly it's economics. Many communist countries in EE had a population boom (over 2.5) in the 1980s, because as low as life quality was, employment was secure, food was limited, but available, construction provided for sufficient amount of housing - so people were having babies.

The same goes on with the hundreds of thousand of Polish girls living in the UK - they are marrying and having babies at rates way above those in Poland.

Also at age 20 women surpass men in the Ukraine - sure they could be single mothers, but that would just make for another stripper/prostitute more.

The shitty economy usually impacts more men than women - this is the case in Ukraine as well.

Then emigration is probably already higher than it seems - especially the well-educated men and young women are leaving for the EU. Like all of EE & FSU - all of those countries are shrinking in population.
