I've got the conch now, Piggy!
You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Not going to engage in class envy. Sucks that so many people got scammed - hopefully everyone that paid will be able to recoup some $$ regardless of the "no refunds" policy

If this Billy McFarland guy is from Short Hils, then he has money out the ass. I used to tutor kids in that neighborhood. It's a lot of (((old))) money, big league (((old)))) money. It's the sorta neighborhood where you meet those people out and about and you assume they're nice working class people, then you go to their houses and you're like
Elevators and shit in their fucking houses cuz they're too rich to walk around.
I'm not surprised he pulled this shit. He has that classic sociopathic smile. That smile does not reach his eyes and is clearly forced as hell.
He looks like that Bug guy in Men in Black who wears other people's skin; take your eyes off of him for a second and he's draining your essence out of you like a cheap juicebox.

I can't fathom the level of human brain that would go to something like this, let alone pay thousands of dollars for it.
The pics showed awesome beach cabanas and celebs. And every music festival I've ever been too is really well put together - the logistics and event handling is top notch. There was really no reason for the kids to doubt that the pics were all fakes.
I think some of the celebs deserve a lawsuit for promoting this - Ja-Rule and Bella Hadid. High-time some of those bullshit celebs shoulder some responsibility rather than just rake in cash for doing nothing. They have a responsibility to their fans and to their brand. They have a responsiblity to do their due diligence for the things they rep. This just shows how big of a whore they really are.
Celebrities are used to promotes products and services because it gives some level of credibility.
These celebrities were paid in advance to promotes this because they never do shit for free, a collective lawsuit should be done and they should face the consequences.
This could set some type of wacky precedent because I'd be willing to bet that no celebrities actually got paid to promote this. I bet they just got offered free travel and tickets to put this on their social media.
Aloha!

That would still be considered payment.

One of my loose friends from business school bought tickets for the second weekend a while ago. He's not a total chump, actually pulls very decent tail on the regular (in fact he pulled a few strippers from couchsurfing game) I suspect this is what happened in his case, and maybe some others like him:
Guy in his late 20s works his ass off, like 80 hours a week, week after week in some thankless but reasonably paying job. Wants to just blow his mind on some ready made fun package. Sees how awesome coachella is or has been to it himself. Sees the names, "big" names associated with this festival, what the amount paid can get him (in the description at least), says F it and plunks down the money. Quick impulse buy because he doesn't have the time and is too stressed out to really dig into something like this.
A lot of people make decisions like this because they sincerely don't have the time to dig deep, suspect foul play, notice inconsistencies in the video etc...
At least he didn't go down there and waste a weekend and lose his luggage. Knowing this guy though, if he HAD gone down, he almost definitely would have scored survivor pussy like a champ and probably came home feeling good about himself as a man.

That is the impression I had about him. He was certainly well-connected and knew plenty of folk, so came from money. An indicator is sometimes the fact that he started out as an "enterpreneur" at age 13. Some families encourage that as people with money start companies to make more money.
Often the so-called rags to riches stories are from guys like that or Bill Gates whose father was worth 100 mio. + and the connections he had were even 10 times better than his money.
It is just good that his stupid showmanship career is probably over. No one will entrust him with any major project ever.
As for his smile - I met quite a few salesmen like that. They would sell you any crap that might even ruin you, but they don't care, so long as they make a buck.

Educated at The Pingry School - cost of yearly tuition - 43.000$. His education cost likely over 500.000$. He broke off college.
My thread title change is correct - he is the trust-fund ponzi-entrepreneur.
No wonder the media pushed him left, right and center and he was so well-connected.
I think his trust-fund is in serious danger. His daddy will have to hire the best lawyers and activate his contacts, so that son-wannabe-self-made-billionaire gets off easy.

There's going to be a comedy movie adaptation of this for certain. I'm willing to bet that Seth Rogan is furiously pecking at his keyboard as we speak.

Rogen has had some big hits recently – pushing the envelope with hits like Sausage Party and college frat duology Neighbors and Neighbors 2 – and the style of humor he helped to popularize – stoner comedy mixed with absurdist situations and characters – has started to pop up everywhere.
At the same time, comedy trio The Lonely Island – consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone have also been doing their part to change the face of comedy. Having initially found success on SNL, the trio are responsible for 2007’s Hot Rod as well as last year’s Popstar. Rogen and the team have worked together before on hilarious song “Like A Boss”, and now they’re reuniting for a full movie.
With the recent disaster of rapper Ja Rule’s Fyre Festival making headlines, both Rogen and The Lonely Island took to Twitter to reveal that they are in fact, making a movie “about a music festival that goes horribly wrong.” The announcement couldn’t have more perfect timing – so much so that The Lonely Island tweeted further confirmation.

A trust fund would most likely be untouchable as money is distributed by the trustees and is not legally owned by the beneficiary. He can have $5 in his name and get a $20k check every month.
