Just heard about this on the radio.

Messed up stuff. I'm once again forced to ask how it is that so many people were killed and nobody was capable of intervening.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

So if I understand this right, he stabbed 64 people at the dead of night in a home for the disabled?

I hope Japan has the death penalty

Japan most definitely has the death penalty--and they use it.

If this happened in the west, there would be a total ban on knives tomorrow.

That's not really a thing. Generally these attacks are just some guy snapping. Japan doesn't really have "say your feelings" or "talk about your problems", so they just bottle it up, until occasionally someone in the long-tail snaps and either jumps in front of a bullet train or does something brutally crazy.

You guys think small. Ban hands! And as soon as possible, put everyone in the matrix.

Japan is not like anywhere else.

Will not be noticed or talked about for more than 8 hours.

I take it the counselling industry isn't exactly booming in Japan.

Haven't read more than the comments here, but I'll speculate.

It wasn't a home for able-bodied folks. Dead of night. Knives are quiet.

Not impossible.

I know this was in jest, but I was wondering if it is true that Japan doesn't allow Muslims to immigrate to the country. I heard that somewhere and didn't know if it was fact or just internet bs.

Anyone know what the Japanese policy is on Muslims?

Also, what a shitty story. A bunch of disabled/elderly people murdered in their sleep.

The Japanese policy on muslims is that they need to GTFO. There are very, very few muslims in Japan.

This story is very sad. I don't have much else to say about it.

This is very tragic, but will obviously be used by our politicians to make ridiculous claims like "See! More people are murdered in Japan than in Germany. There's nothing wrong with importing ISIS members!"

Well we know the refugee policy: in 2013 they took about 3000 applications, and accepted 6.

Yeah and this is what it usually gets used for.

Before I begin, I want to preface this post by saying that my heart goes out to the victims involved. Having not read the reports thoroughly, I assume most of the victims involved were disabled, so they had to play the Game of Life on hard mode. I wish their families find the strength and solace they need to overcome this tragedy.

While Japan does get the immigration and crime prevention games right, sometimes there's a few mishaps to be found in an usually peaceful society. Like Phoenix mentioned, the overwhelming push to maintain (wa - peace) at any cost, leaves people without much of an outlet. Couple that with the fact that the culture is a complex set of rules, duties, and other obligations (ESPECIALLY for the Japanese), it wouldn't shock me to see how some people feel trapped. Look at the statement the attacker said after being apprehended:

Quote:Quote:

The attacker reportedly told police "I want to get rid of the disabled from this world."

Before that, he was passing out leaflets near his workplace, saying how disabled people take up too many resources. I'm not saying that I'm Nostradamus and could've predicted an atrocity like this, but from the evidence, it seems as though he was getting frustrated with his lot in life. Not to mention what kind of employment hell he had to deal with at that job. Sometimes, we only see the tree when we hit our heads on one of the branches.

Debt & The Sudden Outbreak of Insanity
http://dollarcollapse.com/why-were-ungov...es-random/

This series is based on the premise that debt works the same way for countries as it does for individuals and families: When you borrow too much your life spins out of control. For national and multi-national entities that means elections become unpredictable, economies function erratically, and public policies become more ad hoc and less effective.

And civil unrest becomes the rule rather than the exception. In the US, for instance, it’s suddenly open season on both black men and the police. And in Europe, the following happened in just the past couple of weeks:

Machete-Wielding Syrian Refugee Kills One; Injures Two In Southern German City
German Police Kill Assailant After Ax Attack Aboard a Train
Munich shooting: 9 victims, gunman dead, police say
Attack on Nice | Truck rampage rattles an already unsettled France

This sudden outbreak of apparent insanity doesn’t seem closely tied to the recent change in our borrowing habits. But it is, in several ways. First, the ability to borrow effectively-unlimited amounts of money has set major governments free to intervene militarily in the Middle East and elsewhere, leading to the flood of refugees now destabilizing Europe and breeding the kinds of nothing-left-to-lose behavior chronicled above.

Second, since borrowing and spending money in the present is effectively stealing growth from the future, the more a country borrows, the harder it becomes to provide good jobs and effective public services for the people at the bottom of the economic ladder. Poor, desperate people are inherently more volatile and more likely to crack under the strain of their poverty.

Third, as the easy money policies that once greased the wheels of statist political machines stop working, the people in charge (who have just that one tool in their box) are resorting to ever-more-extreme parodies of past policies – low interest rates being replaced by negative rates, short-term infusions of modest liquidity giving way to massive and apparently permanent central bank purchases of bonds and stocks. These new policies, rather than being simply ineffective, are actively damaging. So the death spiral of the fiat currency, fractional reserve banking system is being turbocharged, which is why the atrocities seem to be occurring at shorter and shorter intervals.

It was a nursing home for disabled people. There are different levels of care facilities for mentally and physically disabled in Japan. Some of them are basically apartment buildings with an on-call nurse or monitor for those who are semi-independent or mobile. This facility sounds like it was for people who required much closer care and monitoring. Perhaps many of them were bedridden.

If so, there should have been one or two staff, at least, present in the building at 2 a.m. when the attack occurred. It sounds like the knifer, an ex-employee, did not attack them. I wonder what they were doing?

We made the pesky Buddhist joke so many times it actually happened.

Guys, we're dealing with advanced meme-magic here. Be careful.
