Military Coup in Turkey

The coup will succeed, I think. The Turkish army, galvanized by their (much-shared in Turkey) love for Ataturk, had years and years to prepare its action. Erdogan is over. Good fuckin riddance!!

Also, no visa-free travel next month for male Turkish citizens to Europe! [Image: banana.gif] Life expectancy of our women just gained 5 years...

I have observed the situation further. And guys, although I am optimistic by nature, I predict either a large scale uprising, or even civil war.

First of all, Erdogan was in power for quite a long time (10+ years), with a popular support, and support from the Army (which he purged in several waves from generals that were not loyal to him).

I expect that there will be a civil war, between

1. Erdogan's supporters (a large part of the population, sadly), reinforced by the elements of the Army still loyal to him (certainly not an insignificant number), and supported by Islamists from abroad.

..and

2. "Old Guard (Republicans)" - anti Erdogan ( mostly secular and urban population), supported by more moderate elements from the Army (which are still in majority), reinforced by the West.

Also, Kurds will certainly try to make the most out of this situation.

We will see... .

A turkish source tells me it's only a faction of the army and that the top guys are Erdogan turf, and that it might be a failed attempt.

The word is that many of the top guys have been taken hostage.

I am getting better intel on whats going on now in Turkey by reading this thread, than i am by going on any other news website.

The quality of RVF posts today in telling me what really matters and how this affects europe and the world is incredible right now.

We are an amazing collabrative think tank and vanguard for preparing for future action without parallels.

Turkey is literally 50:50 in support and hatred against Erdogan. There are reports of mainy people in the street protesting the coup clashing with military.

I'd say civil war possibility is pretty high. Edit: Especially if Erdogan is able to flee.

Good points...but consider this.

The military owns and controls all the big guns. The military is a revered institution in Turkey and has been so since the Ottoman (even Seljuk) eras.

No foreign intervention will come. Everyone hates Erdogan. Who's going to throw him a lifeline? Saudis? No.

The public will not take on the military. Even if a few pathetic Islamists try to do something, they will be swept aside. There has never been a civil war in modern Turkey, as far as I can remember.

There may be elements of the military that are Erdogan sympathizers. Time will tell. The next 24-48 hours are critical.

This is a key, key development. Very happy today. This is the final unraveling of the Sunni Islamist conspiracy to subjugate Syria, Iran, and Lebanon.

There are tears, tears, and more tears flowing in Riyadh tonight, I can promise you.

Correct, my source mentioned a general had been taken hostage at least.

This will be interesting.

It's the descendants of the Janissaries in control of the military. Balkan power.

This. A huge radical-Islamist player is being torn down. Our cause is much advanced for this.

Erdogan is in Turkey, he's facetiming a private TV channel, airports/borders shut down, people are out in the streets cheering for Erdogan or the soldiers.

I doubt the Kurds will look on this favourably. Them & the military have been hitting each other over the past 2 years so it will be incredibly bad for them strategically to allow a military takeover of the country.

Unless the generals in charge are against fighting Kurdish forces.

If Turkey becomes a failed state we have close to 80 million people who would potentially flood Europe through Greece. Military Vs kurds Vs Islamists? No thank you!

Don't underestimate the US getting involved. If they think they can swoop in with a covert team to put Ergodan back in, they will. I'm sure Putin has activated a team as well. Turkey is too important for the USA to lose.

If they don't you might see coups in Europe too.

There's a looming semi-coup in police in the US, there could be coups in Europe too. Greece will not be happy if their arch enemies start pouring in.

If the European leaders do not stop a Turkish migrant invasions, they will be gone and that is the beginning of that part of the great war of our time.
