A lot of times after I shave my face my neck turns red and little red dots appear. How to prevent it from happening? Any advice on shaving is welcome.

Do you use disposable razors? If so, you should replace them after several uses.

Do you shave in the proper direction? Shaving against the grain of your beard will irritate the hair follicles.

While I ask about whether or not you shave in the correct direction, let me also recommend that you shave using a sensitive skin formulated shave cream.

Do you use an after shave? If not, give it a try.

My shaving is fucked up.
First I use a regular shaving cream then I shave with a disposable razor.
I shave up and down, totally mixed. This is it. Duhh.

Use an eletric shaver. (is that the name in English?) Or, if you have the $$$ go to laser treatment

Get the best electric razor you can. I bought a Braun Series 7 about a year ago and have had excellent results. It has a self cleaning function that is great.

Bonus tip: for shaving your pubic hair the best thing is an electric women's bikini trimmer.

Use 3 bladed disposable razors (Schick Xtreme 3, there are other similar brands, I use these), rinse them under running water after shaving (and during) shake them dry, cap them and keep them outside of your damp bathroom, not clogged with hairs and on your dirty sink for them to rust.

Even though they are cheap and disposable, this razors can last for months if you take good care of them. I used to buy a 4-pack around once every year, and my beard grows pretty thick (as you can see from my profile pic, I haven't shaved (my face) in a while)

Shave in the direction your hair grows, never against the grain (this usually means downwards).

Shave after you shower, so the steam and water softens your beard. Never shave dry, and never shave IN the shower, you need to be able to see what you are doing.

As for shaving cream, a non mentholated shaving gel will do. Buy a 'regular' or 'sensitive' brand. (The ones from nivea for men are also good)

If your job or lifestyle allows, let your face rest by not shaving for a day or two every once in a while.

No no no, do none of this electric razor, three blade razor bullshit.

Shave with a straight razor. The shave is closer and smoother and, if you use proper shaving soaps, aftershaves, and get your technique down, it's easier on your face.

Also, for aftershave, try English Leather.

As far as shaving creams go, don't use the gel in a can Gillette shit, buy a real shaving soap and lather it on your face. It feels better, gets you a more comfortable shave, and smells a lot nicer.

Invest in a second pair of clippers for your balls if you're scared of a razor.

You don't want to use the same clippers on your face that you use on your nuts - you know?

Works like a charm, although I don't go as close as surrounding areas due to the delicate skin.

Also on the issue of an electric razor or not, a normal razor will be better unless you get a top quality electric, in which case it becomes very convenient.

If you use disposable razors store the one you're currently using submerged in rubbing alcohol. It prevents the microscopic build of skin cells on the blade and drastically increases their longevity

I've used both and the traditional razor is better. It gives you a closer shave and it's pretty hard to cut yourself. To avoid playing roulette with your sack, pull the skin taut when you're going over your balls. It takes a little bit of creativity but you'll get the hang of it.

I shave against the grain too. I always thought it was the best way for a close shave.

I once took an electric razor(the small one used for sideburns and neck) to my balls. I screamed like a girl.

If you're gonna shave the sack, use a good manual razor and do it in the shower You want everything as "loose" as possible down there.

1) Get a quality shaving cream, for sensitive skin
2) Get a quality razor, like a sensor excel type of thing. Replace the blade part regularly.
3) Shave after a hot shower.
4) Go with grain. Never against.
5) Don't double shave or scrape.

OR
Get an electric razor

OR
grow a beard

And if possible shave every other day. Electric or not.

Shaving against the grain of my beard beard will irritate the hair follicles below my lower jaw, i.e. neck. Cheeks, sides and the area around my mouth won't be heavily irritated.

Switch to a shaving gel with aloe vera in it.

Shave every day, whether you need to or not (don't skip a day).

Try shaving in the shower under cool water. I know a lot of people recommend hot water but that's one of the main reasons you may get ingrown hairs. Put the cream/gel on a couple of minutes before. Shave with the grain.

You want a great shave? Alright, do it like your grandfather did it. My grandfather was a salesman for Gillette before they made all of this plastic disposable crap. He has a huge collection of cool old razors that he passed down.

You want a heavy double edged safety razor. This one is nice:

http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Heavy-Doubl...70&sr=1-10

Get some sharp blades:

http://www.amazon.com/Feather-Hi-Stainle...970&sr=1-7

Careful. You don't need much pressure with Feather blades (suckers are more than razor sharp) - just guide down without much more than the weight of the handle. Now obviously you won't do this on dry skin without cream. You want to buy a badger hair shaving brush - silvertip hair is the best. This will do:

http://www.amazon.com/Silvertip-Bristle-...sim_hpc_44

For the cream you could go Proraso, but for something really nice that lasts forever go with Truefitt & Hill. I use the 1805 and a jar has lasted me over one year. It was made to commemorate Admiral Nelson's victory over Napoleon and has an amazing smell - like the way the ocean should smell. You'll never regret buying this stuff and you will feel like a true gentleman shaving with it. A huge luxury for a small price:

http://www.amazon.com/Truefitt-Hill-1805...606&sr=1-3

Lastly, get a stand for everything:

http://www.amazon.com/Colonel-Conk-Evern..._hpc_img_b

Wake up, take a nice hot shower to loosen you up and when your skin and hair are ready, begin shaving straight away when you leave the shower. Lather up the cream on the brush and apply to the moist face. With the razor, go with the grain of the hair - for me that is down everywhere but the bottom of my neck. Go slow, but firm and be careful not to apply too much pressure with a fresh blade. It smells terrific, it's a wonderful morning ritual, and you will feel like a prince no matter if you are in a hut if Africa or at the Plaza Hotel in New York.

When have completed the shave and have baby smooth skin, wash of the remaining cream with warm water, then dab you face with some cool water to close the pores. Grab your bottle of Thayer's witch hazel (link below) and squirt some in your hands - pat your face. This toner is magic - shrinks the pores.

http://www.amazon.com/Witch-Hazel-Unscen...291&sr=1-2

Then grab some Geo F. Trumper Limes Skin Food, I use rose scented but it's a bit strong. A little dab will seal off your skin and protect it. If you have any nicks or bumps, the Trumper skin food should seal it up nicely and be unnoticeable.

http://www.amazon.com/Geo-Trumper-Limes-...510&sr=1-2

That's it. All of the consumables listed should last one year. Replacement blades are inexpensive compared to todays Mach or Extreme whatever. You have a little extra initial cost, but trust me when I tell you - this is how to shave. Enjoy gentleman.
