I was thinking of posting this in the "Everything Else Section" but I thought it would be more important to put in in travel in case anyone is thinking of staying in Japan.
Anyway, beware of staying in newly constructed buildings, as some of them have materials that have been transferred from the area around the nuclear plant and have been contaminated by radiation. In fact, a lot of building materials come from that area and have likely been shipped around the country in the last few months without being checked for radiation. Further, the government has begun to burn nuclear waste right outside the Tokyo.
Be careful in choosing where you stay. I first heard the news on NHK, but here are english sources.
