How would you "beat the system" with the Schengen zone's 90-day rule?

Strange, I did the very same thing about a month and a half ago but got double checked and stamped by officers while remaining in the bus. And then we crossed the border on foot while the bus got inspected.

What route did your bus take? I went Trieste - Rijeka, direct. Not including the brief border stop, there were no stops until Opatija.

Do think it's worth it to be banned from the region for years to come because of a few days or weeks?

It is also possible that you get deported to your home country, so watch out!

No, I don't want any problems so am unlikely to try that. There are lots of places nearby to kill 6 months in rather than heading back to the EU. Croatia, Serbia, Britain, Albania, the Ukraine, Morocco, Israel, etc. I'm just saying, if somebody wants to 'beat the system', it might be possible if they haven't stamped your passport and you want to chance it. Although if they question you, you might want to have fake receipts 'proving' you were not in the EU if you're telling them you were somewhere else during that time period.
