Not sure how long for.

i don't mind cold if it's blue sky like NYC ...but London it's too often grey and that's pretty depressing day in day out.

I second that. I hated the overcast days in London. It was gloomy so much, it's unbelievable. I used to feel like Neil back in the days, unmotivated, fuelled only by my daydreams. I got the fcuk out. Toronto is much colder than Toronto but it's much sunnier here, which cats take for granted.
For instance, today, the sun is bright as fcuk. It made trudging through the white snow seem like hardly a chore...

I am closely monitoring the weather in Poland. It is 3F right now (Fuck that's cold!), but as soon as I see signs of 60F/25C around April, I'm booking my flight.......I'm patiently (and anxiously) waiting in warm Miami Beach.

I've asked before, are there still women around to fuck? I'm assuming they all shack up with winter-cock, and any player put there searching for pussy is SOl!

I happen to really enjoy the cold weather, but the combination of cold and dark certainly don't aid going out.

My number one problem with winter is that you're either overdressed for inside or under-dressed for outside because of how establishments are heated.

So true. Swedish buildings are very warm, and when I come in from the cold I immediately start to sweat. I try to shed layers quickly for the first 20 min I am inside, but if its not possible I just drip. Then ice up when I am back outside.

I live in Chicago, and in the United States we don't believe in saving on energy costs by lowering the thermostat by one degree. It's a very serious problem, and our winters are ordinarily much colder than Stockholm's.

Shedding layers is the obvious solution, but if you're bar-hopping at night this is very difficult. Unless you're going to schwanky ($$$) places, there is not going to be a coat check. If you take off layers and leave them on a stool or chair, you risk losing them (or having them stolen). Plus, to be actually warm in the winter you need to wear long underwear. What are you going to do, take off your pants in the bar?

So usually I just under-dress for outside and use cabs as much as possible to avoid walking.

Deadly European cold snap spreads
Posted: 01 February 2012 0115 hrs

KIEV: A cold snap that killed 30 people in Ukraine over the past five days spread on Tuesday to swathes of eastern and central Europe with record lows in Bulgaria and heavy snow in Switzerland and parts of Italy.

Emergency services in Ukraine said most of the dead were homeless people who froze to death on the streets, four were found in their homes, and more than 600 people sought medical help for frostbite and hypothermia.

Authorities opened 1,590 shelters to provide food and heat and were planning to set up 150 more as temperatures plunged to minus 28 degrees Celsius (minus 18 degrees Fahrenheit) in some regions.

Police in Poland reported five new deaths on Tuesday, bringing the overall toll for January to 27 as overnight temperatures dipped to minus 30 Celsius.

In Vilnius, the capital of neighbouring Lithuania, one homeless man was found dead on Tuesday, bringing the death toll there to eight since Saturday.

In the Czech Republic, a woman was found frozen to death in a garden shed in the capital Prague, police said.

Meanwhile, two died in Romania, raising the death toll to eight since Thursday, the health ministry said.

Temperatures plunged to minus 29 degrees Celsius in central Romania on Monday night, sending gas consumption to a record high and forcing a huge increase in gas imports, an official said.

"In Bucharest and across the country, consumption has reached a historic high," from 57 million cubic metres per day earlier this month to 69 million on Monday, economy ministry official Claudiu Stafie told a press conference.

Stafie said imports have risen day after day and were expected to stand at 17.5 million cubic metres on Tuesday and hit 20 million on Wednesday.

Neighbouring Bulgaria reported record lows and the Danube started to freeze over, threatening shipping.

Eighteen towns, including the capital Sofia, recorded their coldest January 31 since records started 100 years ago, with the mercury dropping as low as minus 29 degrees Celsius in Kneja, in the northeast, according to the national weather service.

In Switzerland, some 10 centimetres of snow fell on Tuesday morning, hampering flights, and the weather service predicted temperatures would drop to minus 15 Celsius in the ski resorts of Saint-Moritz and Sils-Maria.

The cold wave began enveloping central and northern Italy on Tuesday, as emergency services braced for the most severe week in 27 years and motorways prepared for traffic disruptions.

Travellers were being advised to postpone long journeys as snow began to blanket the Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Tuscany regions and the motorways agency said heavy trucks would likely be forced to suspend trips.

Schools and universities have been shut in the northwestern port of Genoa and snow ploughs are on alert at the airport of central Bologna, where the local civil protection agency has declared a state of alert until Thursday.

-5 where I am in Sweden feels closer to -15 in Canada. The air that whips in off the Baltics and North Sea is humid, chills you through your layers, and is just a tab more chiller than the dryer north American cold.

Ever considered wearing a layer (or two) of thermals underneath? (If you don't already). That's what I'm going to do during my year in Lund on exchange (I'm from Australia).

I don't know if you can buy them in Europe (I tried finding one for a friend in Canada once and could not), but Verilux makes a "Happy Light" that helps one deal with light deprevation.

I'm sure the European version is 2 x as expensive, and it only works on 80% of people, but I find it really helps getting through the November to February blues in DC.

It is cold out there.

I rode my bike home from a girls place last night in -10 with snow and wind. I couldn't feel my balls when I got home. My whole crotch was numb.
