Where do you want to go in 2012?

I'll be in Buenos Aires and around Argentina for a few months, then Brazil, not sure what city yet, then back to Portugal - I really enjoyed it there. After that, I'm not so sure, Italy is a possibility - Naples. On my list in the short term is Costa Rica for surfing and chilling out.

I already have tickets for Philippines, China, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Malyasia, and India. May also swing into Indonesia.

After that, I'm thinking a short trip to Belize, Panama, or Costa Rica for the summer, then another mini-retirement somewhere starting around December.

I know it's off topic but I have to ask what you guys do for a living to be able to take months off at a time like that plus have enough cash on hand to spend?

I get 2 weeks of vacation a year at my job but I don't really use it because I can't afford to go anywhere. I do what I can to travel and stay with friends and family but nothing like you guys are doing.

Right now I'm following the money trail. Hopefully it will lead somewhere more agreeable than my current coordinates. As it stands now a trip to Asmara is scheduled for March.

Montreal for at least two weekends in the spring/summer, Saint-Laurent this time, no messing around with US tourists this time.

Summer: Turkey/Croatia/Balkans, ive had limited experience visiting the Med area, followed by Estonia (personal reasons motivating that country, what I hear of the females doesn't hurt tho).

I would like to go back to (southern) Africa, but that might have to wait until 2013.

Bali and Thailand early this year.

After that... my plans are pretty much open. I want to go to Brazil but the logistics to learn passable Portuguese just aren't there. Montreal is another place I have in my sights since I'm curious about Canada and just love NA in general.
Heck, if I don't find a solid destination I might just go a 2nd time to Thailand.

Pussy and beer I hope. If it sucks there compared to Ethiopia let me know. I chose Asmara due to it being off the beaten path, and having already poked a stunner from there.

Just curious, given the rate of 'Murkanization, would that be still be Rio or somewhere 2nd or 3rd tier?

Where is your family from? Have you looked into getting a visa? It's not really open to tourism the way Ethiopia is, not by a long shot.

I haven't found anything online that says Americans can't visit. My family isn't of Eritrean descent.

In two weeks time I'm on my way to Cebu, Davao and Zamboanga (the hottest girls in Philippines). Then back to Korea via Cambodia and home to Cape Town for a year.

Oh, you can visit, it's just there's not much to do there. You didn't like Ethiopia?

Where do you want to go in 2012?

Thanks HC. I've not been to Ethopia yet. Bought a ticket in August but got sick in Dubai and had to cancel. A lot of tourists go to Addis Ababa and I was wanting to play up the exotic angle to the max. Asmara doesn't seem to have as much going on but looked cleaner. Is there enough to do to cover down on a two week trip? How do the girls compare between the two as far as approach? Also, was language barrier an issue? Let me know the basics, so I can make a better decision. If Eritrea doesn't play out then Ethiopia would be the alternate.

All I'm looking for is to hook up with a couple hotties, have a few drinks, eat good food, and experience the culture.

Well, it seems that you are a white guy from the US, so you would do well with the women, I think. People are generally conservative, but Addis Ababa is such a huge city, so you will find women who are looking for foreigner guys like you.

Asmara is cleaner than AA, but it only has like 500K people. Addis Ababa alone has more people than all of Eritrea. There are no ATM machines in Eritrea and really no civil society. The currency exchange is a racket. I had contacts there so I was able to exchange funds on the black market for a MUCH better rate. Just about everything in Eritrea is run by the government. It feels pretty dead, but there are some decent women walking around in Asmara, and the climate is nice. Socially, I would liken it to a country like Belarus. I haven't been there, but the two countries, especially their capitals, are uncannily similar from what I've read (even down to the expresso bars found all throughout both).

I think you would get bored spending two weeks in Asmara, but it's a safe and manageable city to get around. AA will be hectic and chaotic, but as one of the largest cities in Sub-Saharan Africa, it's much more open to foreigners than Asmara. You'll find many more of them in Ethiopia, and lots more restaurants and bars catering to westerners. The society is just more open, but aesthetically, it's not as nice as Asmara, which is said to be the safest and cleanest capital in all of Africa.

Hotels in Addis Ababa charge a higher rate for foreigners fyi. I think Asmara has a higher concentration of attractive girls, but AA has both hot and ugly ones, since there's so many people.

If you do go to Asmara, I would recommend staying in Asmara Palace. You'll find the best looking girls there as it's the country's only five-star hotel. The girls that are looking for foreigners will be there.

When are you aiming to make that visit?

Where do you want to go in 2012?

I'm a student so the budget is tight.

For spring break maybe Whistler or another ski town.
Summer: Either Colombia or a tour of Denmark, Norway, Spain and Romania I have friends in all those places so it would cut down on costs, too bad Denmark isn't the best for gaming.

or if that doesn't work out I want to explore Canada, road trip through BC/Alberta or a Washington/Oregon/Cali trip.
