Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

Even Dmitry Klokov, an Olympic silver medalist, does CrossFit.

Dude, first of all, none of those guys are big. LOL.

Second, dimitry klokov only does crossfit because it gives him money, he's said that in enough interviews. If you think he built that physique with crossfit you are very misinformed.

I know they're juiced. Not denying that. I think all the top competitors are, just like all the top body builders are. And I know that Klokov built his physique through Olympic lifting. Just saying that he does CrossFit, using him as an example of someone big that does it.

And I'll just say, as someone who does CrossFit, I have problems with it and a lot of the people involved. Many think it is the end all be all of fitness, which is a stupid mindset. They look down on people who don't CrossFit, a mentality I don't get. I do it because I enjoy it, but still do body building style working out on occasion. I like that video that was posted above because it points out legitimate issues with CrossFit in a humorous way. I'm not someone that tries to evangelize others about it, so my response wasn't meant to show anyone that this way of working out is the correct way. Just got defensive over something I enjoy. That's all.[Image: angel.gif]

I did crossfit for the first time today. It was awesome. A lot of it reminded me of my old military PT days. So it was good stuff. The expert leading the whole shebang was awesome too. Got to give that muscled young lady a one-up! A drill sargent is a drill sargent. And they have rope climbing... just like back in grade school!

I'm on it! :-)

*** As a note: I am not into size/muscle stuff. I prefer a biker/swimmer/sports physique. I have a reason to wear a biz suit sometimes... and I prefer not to look like I am wearing a bullet-proof vest... which is also in the cards sometimes... but not that great of importance.

I’m thinking about doing the CrossFit 6-week challenge. I love that you get a DEXA scab before and after.

Has anyone done it before?

I do have some concerns about recovery time though. I plays soccer on Tuesdays and want my weekends free.

I'm probably the weird one, but I didn't think it was that funny except for the chick jokes.

But the video reminds me of what I've asked before...What's with all the crossfit hate?

I mean I get the criticisms of the exercises and intensity that do as far as concern for injury. That's just a boring nerdy conversation mostly about physiology.

I have had a few friends really into crossfit who never evangelized me about it. In fact, I've had normal gym trainers preach to me more. Also, the guys I knew were in very good, well-built shape from crossfitting. They didn't look like bodybuilders, they just looked like in shape guys.

I thought the chicks looking like dudes was funny, because it's true. I find the same true with chicks who lift a lot at the gym.

The whole 'be really good at working out' thing is funny too, but I think it's just as hilarious in my gym when I go lift. There are few things that bring me more consistent entertainment than to see a couple bros who are getting all sciency about doing some cable machine pulls or bicep curls or even dumbbell presses. Now, I have more respect for a guy who is pushing himself on squat or deadlift, because you need perfect form for that, but when it comes to most lifting, just go in and move some weight around, it's not quantum physics. (reminds me of guys thinking if they just get ripped and huge they'll get chicks)

I had all these beliefs before starting martial arts (working out is good, but have a reason), it's just that now I have my reason.

I suppose I get tired of the "business of working out". I can easily criticize the guy loading up on pre-workout or the chick who takes gym classes or even my jujitsu gym for having a little too much myopic ego.

Overall, seems like the video could have been shortened to 30 seconds rather than 9 minutes.

I'll give you the old man perspective on crossfit. I did it for about 2 years, on average twice a week. I was in my early 50's. It worked well for me in terms of looking good and feeling healthy. I thought most of the trainers and trainees were cool people. The reason I eventually quit was because I had a couple of nagging injuries that I had to work around and I hated scaling my workouts and doing different movements than the rest of the class. The instructors were cool about it, but I never felt comfortable. I eventually decided that if I'm going to be doing my own customized workout, I might as well save $150 a month and do it on my own. I'm not as fit as I was but I feel pretty good.

Crossfit ended my old career with a wicked back injury and led me down a new path in life. What I thought was a curse, turned into a blessing. Thank god for crossfit and that fateful day on the squat rack.
