To be serious for a moment, the location feature (which I notice on Bumble since I don't use Tinder) is a real security hole and a tempting feature to play with. You can infer quite a bit through the feature, like what town she probably works in or how often she gets out of the house. This also works both ways and you can be damned sure at least some women use this feature to size up guys. It's possible to catch people in lies this way if they say they are somewhere and the location says otherwise. This is why if you're going to see someone on a regular basis that it's important to unmatch as the only purpose the match would serve at that point is as a 24/7 location tracker.

I also know that occasionally I get a match (on Bumble) when I'm on the road and the woman is literally in the same town (a Happn sort of match). I think when you're in real close proximity Bumble is more likely to show your profile and women are more likely to swipe. So showing current location rather than your homebase can be an asset during the matching stage.

No. Wrong, the standard setting with iOS and Android is that Tinder can only use your location WHILE you are logged into the application, otherwise, it won't register it. I only log into the app while I'm at home so I will be at the same distance all the time unless my matches move around.

I think very few have changed their settings so that Tinder can register their location at any given moment. That would significantly drain the battery on most phones.
